  1. Personally, I would use the three top keyboard buttons to pick where to shoot from.

    1  -  2  -  3

Which would also be great for custom controllers.

Then add Super action Controller support.

Other than that, some excellent work.

How simple it would have been to port these games back in the day and yet it only takes 30 years later.

Let's see the evil tech-heads at Google, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter try to track or hack into your ADAM... their million dollar systems would probably blow-up trying. You don't even have to worry about running anti-virus software or setting up a firewall on the ADAM!

EOS has to be the most secure operating system in existence.

At the end of the day it is just text no matter what wrapper you put it in.

Enough addons and even ADAM can browse the internet.

There's always Bounty Bob Strikes Back!

I have been in contact with Bill Hogue for about 5 seconds.

I sent him emails repeatedly which he eventually answered when I emailed his brother, at least I think it was his brother.

I get it, he's a busy man as well as being an actual figure in this industry that stands out.

I started out with asking a few questions about ports which he stated he was not involved with.

He said that he was approached a few years back about intellivision and a cell phone versions.

His basic attitude was he was happy that he was still making money on the game all these years later.

When I went to follow up because I wanted to bring BBSB to the Colecovision he no longer responded to my emails.

This going on now, almost a year.

So, I have come to the conclusion that I would have to either show some money up front or just do it and risk some kind of litigation.

I would rather use my valuable time to work on the 50 other games on my list than to take six months to create a game that I could not legally release.

Don't get me wrong, I love to make ports because it hones my programing skills however I would love to see new games come to the table.

Coleco Vaporware games are cool to fill in, Dino Eggs to be specific.  Then again it would be nothing new that you can play in an emulator for another system.

After the ADAM was announced and/or available for purchase and stock ran out of the original "For ColecoVision" cartridge label, I can only assume that the "For CV & ADAM" was used for all CV pack-ins and for the boxed CIB.

Apparently it did come in a boxs-l1600.thumb.jpg.3116cd62f7228ef0106096b1ca7c1093.jpg

This is on ebay today and already up to $62 which I don't want it that bad.

No doubt some of you already bid on it.

  5. Rarity Question.

As far as the Donkey Kong Cartridge with the ADAM label.

Did that ever come in a box or was that some online promotional deal.23066485_LabelVariations.jpg.eb69153cfd7cb3012aadbc5a177c0c2d.jpg

I picked mine up through auction but do not know the history.

  6. That import screen feature 10000000000000X needed and much appreciated.

    I just tried it out.

What I did was draw a layout and needed to adjust the screen down.

So I saved the data, added one lined of DB at the top and imported it back in.

The screen shifted down exactly as expected and I did not have to draw it all over again.

You are the guru my friend.

  7. Thanks to everyone, I went ahead and wrote it long hand then optimized it.

Not such a big deal, just check in multiples of ten.

However I want to go back to my call on a thread to have the most optimized Z80 routines for the Colecovision which anyone can grab for game development or even adapt them for other systems.

To be honest I have no idea why this has never been done.  At least where I could find.

Along with some Z80 classes I may just go ahead and start this endeavor as a new 2021 project.

I don't want to bite off more than I can chew because I am finding out there is more I can learn like BCD.

  8. What I can ultimately do is have a 0-9 print routine then print the ones, deduct the tens then print, deduct the hundreds then print.

It's convoluted so I thought there may be a standard someone was willing to share.

As far as the actual timer part, I am getting the feeling that close enough should be fine.  It's a game and not sending a man to the moon.

Thank you Kiwi for the input.

  9. Polishing up my game and I am running into small issues that some of you brains might be able to help with.

One, I am running out of time because of Christmas and Grand kids flopping about.

Two, I am running out of time because of Christmas and Grand kids flopping about.

With that I would ask if anyone in the community has an accurate count down timer like that featured in Donkey Kong, Blasto or your common core game with a count down timer.

I have two players competing for merchandise on the screen with a count down so the higher score wins after time out.

My routines work but they are iffy at best so if there is a professional formula that also shows a 3 digit display anywhere on screen

Please, code must be in Z80 assembly.

Tony Cruz gave me some insight on BCD and now I am thinking I was pretty dag on good with my coding, I have done some things you shall see, however this went over my head and just did not work the way I thought it would.

A simple 3 digit display timer that counts increments of 1's from 199 to 0.

    TIA always.

  10. Possible Bug?

Today when my Windows updated (without my permission) the Sprite program was running but collapsed to the task bar.

However when I received control back to my computer the Sprite Editor did not work.

It would work but would never enlarge when clicked on.

So I had to go to the save settings in the local area and delete the cruise research file set.

Afterwards it went back to normal.

So, it is go through the process of delete the settings, fix what is a big nothing bug if you want to call it that or just don't collapse the program and leave it running.

Close it out when your done and no issues.

  11. When I said shrink wrapped I meant an entire piece of software such as a game cartridge or these boxes.

I will correct myself and admit I was wrong because I have several unopened clam shell packages with the official Coleco seal on the outside of the SW as well as the original professional series such as LOGO, ADAMCALC and CPM 2.2 were sealed entirely.

Of course the cassettes themselves were shrink wrapped, I have two never used ADAM's where the DDP'S never even left the styrofoam and are SW.

None of the Atari published games I have are shrink wrapped which come from unoppened and opened boxes of 6 each.

I should have been more specific and I apologize for the inaccuracies.

you have to fill the NAME Tables displayed on screen with consecutive values from 1 to 255.

then you have just to modify the Pattern table (and optionnaly Color Table)  to make your point.

you can use that formulas to locate address in VRAM for the point.

/// maps a block in the screen 2 model
    #define map_block(x,y)    ((((y) & ~(7)) << 5) + ((x) & ~(7)))

/// maps a pixel coordinate to a vram address
    #define map_pixel(x,y)    (map_block(x,y) + ((y) & 7))

of course you have to add the Adress where you located your Pattern Table.

and then you have to perform some  OR operation according to x Modulo 8  .

    in Z80 English please.

  13. I am more interested in the code to draw pinpoint lines within the 8x8 tiles system.

I am sure given enough time I could figure it out but if there is an award winning formula I would love for someone to share it.

There should be a thread with nothing but Z80 formula's to show Plotting lines, angles, circles, BCD, Jumping with Arc's ect...

    With examples

Well if they're not sealed, the numbers would be significantly lower than 200/300/300.  I just sold a Zaxxon that was: opened arcade box in good/very good shape, manual was near mint w/ standard factory crease, and the DDP was still factory shrink-wrapped, and it sold on ebay for $76.00.

It is hard to believe I just ripped these boxes apart when I bought them back in the 80's

But if I may, I have never in my history have seen an original "Shrink Wrapped" Coleco anything so I would be suspect.
I have 3 boxes, 2 sealed and 1 not of Coleco cartridges, no shrink wrap.

Even when I bought games at Sears, Specs Music or Zayres, Jeffersons they were never shrink wrapped same as all other systems.
These 3 boxes sat on a shelf behind the counter and these particular games I picked up from Lionel Playworld where I also bought an Atari 5200 4 port, which was awesome and I don't care who hated it.

My memory is so good I can tell you where I bought my first Coleco game right down to the Super Action Controllers at K-Bee toys.

Thanks!  Yeah it’s time to cash this stuff in for a new engine.  I don’t know much of anything prior to Nintendo.  That was my generation and time.  I collect so much and I’d love to avoid going into my other stuff, so I’m looking for reasonable prices because I do know some has some serious value still.  Just don’t want to be had.  Itchy thanks for the truth bomb.  Fee bay is a violent way to sell.  I have been being reasonable with a majority of my items i have sold, but the holy grails need to be treated as such.  I will never come across them again.

Fate handed you the wrong time of year unless you know some rich cats out there with no kids looking for Switches or PS5's for Christmas.
Three of my kids are already grown and I have one grand kid coming here for Christmas so my back is up against the wall as far as what I have to do.

Spoil one grand child and at least $500 gift cards to everyone over 18 then a wife.

In the real world the Colecovision is secondary.

No my friend, if I were in your shoes...  and this is just an opinion...

Wait till after Christmas or learn to compromise.

If someone offered you a really good deal then take it even if you don't particularly like the guy.

Then again, everyone around here is so lovable.

A man can't get around or work without his ride and believe you me walking sucks which I haven't done since I was 16.  Which WAS in the 80's.

Actually your response was very well thought out and written which hopefully helps the person figure out what they can/will get for it!!

I just wonder what price is in his/her head that they think they are being lowballed lol  I mean, considering they admitted they have no idea what it may or may not be worth!!  lol

Thus you see an Atari 2600 being sold as a Colecovision on Ebay or better yet the "RARE" and "VINTAGE" label slapped on 80's junk found at a thrift store.
Not saying that is this case.

Collections are only worth to a COLLECTOR.  These websites that promote what Chase the Chuckwagon will go for is as real as a 9 dollar bill.

Whenever I bid on something I want I will only put that amount that I am willing to pay and not go into one of those last second bidding frenzies.

If someone else buys it for $1 more then there you go.  I promise you it will show up again.

I have a friend of mine who bought a Colecovision Super Sketch for $700+ then tried to sell it a week later for $900 because of buyers remorse and he still has it going on three years now.

  17. At the end of the day the price is subject to whatever a collector will pay for it which makes past, desired or original prices 35 years ago moot.

I also think that Mr. DiPietro would love to avoid EBAY fees as would we all.

His wares are on the ADAM FaceBook Page as well as EBAY if you want to help him out.

He stated that his car has broken and needs to sell his collection 😥 to get it fixed.

  18. Working on some graphics as we speak

On occasion when using two color sprites the colors switch.

    Another suggestion if I may.

Say if I have an 8 sprite animation of a guy walking in all 8 directions.

Could you implement an easier way to copy sprites to the next sprite table.

Copy, Paste, Import Are you sure you want to change because it would erase..

Like the left hold down mouse button mass draw, hold the right to mass erase

The new Zoom?  Block on the Screen Layout is cool but later down the road can it be like a 4x4 rubiks type cube so you can work on an enlarged section.

    peace

    thanks Tony.

But for this version , curiously when i try to download it  , it is blocked. see picture. :(

Aside that,  a feature that would be extremely great for me , is if you tool would be able to import  DAT files from newcoleco's ICVGM tool.   then i think i will use only your tool if i'm able to rework my DAT filesof my projects with it.

If you are using Win 10 then it is most likely Smart Defender which is has nothing to do with being smart and is annoying.
If you have Enterprise you can disable that garbage permanently.

  20. 2018, java...

I 100% respect all authors and do not discount their contributions but the reality is that Windows keeps evolving.

Case in point if I open the calculator in Windows 10 while CoolCV is running it shuts off abruptly depending on it's mood.

So, to alleviate having to fiddle, add layers or hack I recommend you use a tool that is made and compiled on a modern computer.

If these tools from 2018 and before work for you then the more power but I have found success with just 3 tools to create software for the Colecovision environment.

Tony Cruise's Sprite and Tile editor.  All modern and being updated.

Notepad ++ text file editor.  All modern and being updated.

TNIASM which I have found suits my needs without being registered or updated.

Mind you this is for programing in Assembly language.

I understand that C has been introduced for those who want to take an easier route but performance and space are effected.

Again, if it works for you then go for it just don't stop programing.

Even the most mundane application or game is fascinating.

I have a very deep philosophy which is we are programing for the machine of it's time.

Compact code was necessary for the limited ram and resources so what is the point of using something with a lot of overhead.

I remember my first use of TNIASM which I put my daughters name on a real Colecovision white letters with blue background.

I am an old man and I was tickled.

If I knew what I do now back in the 80's with the tools of today I would have made some serious cash and not have had to work all summer just to go to that Pink Floyd concert.

Just me and trying to help.

  21. Fantastic port.

    Observations......

    Hyperspace missing

    Thrust animation from tail

The most important aspect that made Asteroids Asteroids.
The dant dant dant dant that became faster to raise your blood pressure forcing you to make mistakes.

I could nitpick but no one said it was going to be an exact clone.

Now this makes me want to put together an asteroids type controller to play.

Also, feel free to share the source code.....😀
