  1. One of the features I liked was Krile replacing Galuf (yes, I made a mistake in above post) and Krile getting her grandfather's abilities. Galuf's death is also a gut punch - I was not used to a main player character dying off like that mid-game. As for the classes, I liked the various fighting classes in the game. The Knight was a staple character as it was the first fighting class you got. I kept that until I got the crystals for the Berserker and Samurai class. Towards the end of the game, when you have all that money and don't need to buy new weapons, the Samurai's coin tossing ability can be very destructive. The Red Mage was difficult but awesome. It took about 999 ability points to learn the Red Mage's Dualcast ability. I saved that for near the end of the game and Dualcast comes in handy in the final boss bottle as I can cast multiple destructive spells with that ability.
  2. My favorite quote from Wizardry:  "Cheap apostates! Out!"

  3. Any fans of Final Fantasy 5 here? I have it on my PS1 Final Fantasy Anthology collection (FF6 is my personal favorite followed by FF9...but that's a whole other thread). It is an honest shame we didn't originally get it in North America as the whole job system was thought to be confusing to American & Canadian players. I'll be honest - the job system is the best part of the game as besides customizing characters, it adds significant strategy. You have to have a balance of characters with proper abilities and you need to master a number of classes by game's end to make a really potent party. The way I went was usually Bartz as my heavy hitter (Knight, Samurai, Berserker, Sorceror), Lena as support magic (White Mage, Time Mage, etc), Faris as attack magic (Black Mage, Summoner, etc) and Galuf/Lena as support and backup (Blue Mage, Ninja, Thief, Bard, etc). After two failed attempts to beat the game, due to poor planning, I finally beat it last year. I had two characters as the bare class (with several mastered classes and available abilities) backed up by two Mime classes who mimicked the really powerful attacks. Anyone else play this title? What do you think?
  4. At Crescent Lake, you have a few different options. You can go straight to the Gurgu Volcano to take on Kary the Fiend of Fire. I usually hold off on that; I tackle the Ice Cave first to get the Floater and other treasures. Then I can get the Airship with the Floater and after some more levelling, I go to take on Kary. Once you have the Airship, more paths open up. Some will even go to the Cardia Islands first and take the test at the Castle of Ordeals to promote the party to advanced classes...THEN go to fight Kary. The way I do it at Crescent Lake is Ice Cave --> Airship --> Gurgu Volcano to fight Kary --> Cardia Islands then Castle of Ordeals.
  5. I have beaten the NES version a few times. About a year ago, I got the PS1 remake which also contains the NES Final Fantasy 2. It seems to be harder as I keep losing against Chaos. I may have to go back and try to beat it as well as take another crack at FF2.
  6. Once you get the Crown in the Marsh Cave, you can return later to level up, get more money and get the rest of the treasure. In fact, that might be a good thing to do before you duke it out with Astos or move onto Melmond after giving the TNT to the dwarf digging the canal. The Marsh Cave has some good loot there like gold, the Copper Bracelet and Silver Bracelet.
  7. If you don't mind me saying, as a big fan of Leisure Suit Larry, I am impressed you could pull off a remake/port on the Colecovision. My hat is off to you!
  8. Yep, around Elfland, the Black Belt can just drop weapons in favor of his fists. As the game progresses and after being promoted, the Black Belt/Master becomes capable of dishing out lots of damage!
  9. I beat all three of the NES Super Mario Bros games; I could never beat the Lost Levels. Anyone ever play the Super Mario Bros arcade game? It was deliberately made harder than the console version (more money for arcade operators) and it inspired the Lost Levels!
  10. Elfland marks a significant jump in difficulty. Expect to spend some time grinding to build up your levels, earn money for equipment plus magic and to take on the Marsh Cave. Walkthroughs are your best friend here. When you are ready to tackle the Marsh Cave, stock up on Heal Potion to the limit (with some Pure potions for good measure) and use a tent to save outside the Marsh Cave before heading in.
  11. When the three little pigs said "not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin", what on Earth were they talking about?!

Hey, I liked that song and music video!

      GoldLeader

It's long winded and kind of tedious, yet undeniably catchy, Plus Maynard from TOOL does the high pitched vocals, and I guess I like it too haha...

@GoldLeader Bonus for any mention of TOOL or Maynard....one of my all time favorite bands...

  12. When I have fully decided that a result is worth getting I go ahead of it and make trial after trial until it comes. - Thomas Edison

  13. I know. There's the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Plus the New York City metro area has Yonkers Raceway and the Aqueduct.
  14. Wow. I haven't been to Atlantic City since 2012 after I moved out of New York City. So much has changed. The Showboat isn't a casino anymore? The only arcades I knew of were those ones on the boardwalk; besides video games, they had pinball, skee-ball and fortune telling machines.
  15. Phantasy Star is a great franchise. I've played all four games but only beat the Sega Genesis titles. I never beat the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System. Phantasy Star 2 is hard! It took me years to beat it and it is a very difficult game, even with the map and hint book it was included with.
  16. @ReapermanQuite a video. I just finished watching it. I plan to hold off for awhile on the Evercade Vs. I may get one early next year.
  17. I haven't been in any casinos since 2006 when I was in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I used to make frequent trips there when I lived in New York City. I can still hear the reels and sounds effects.
  18. I bought it and like it because it is a convenient way to play older games without having to go through the pain of hooking up older consoles (like my Atari 7800); searching through EBay, thrift stores, convention dealer rooms, garage sales, flea markets, etc for software & hardware; and for the portability! Another reason? For a long time, I had been wanting to get a console or handheld that I could play classic games on. I had been looking at various retro consoles online for sale that had built-in games and/or had the capability to put in ROMs. But a lot of them looked shoddy, especially the cheaper Chinese knockoffs of dubious quality. With the Evercade, I know what I'm getting. I get a solid product, I get games on cartridges instead of buggy built-in games and it's reliable!
  19. Got a new YouTube drawing video up!

  21. I would pony up for a cart of Toki for my Atari 7800. Seriously, I would. This game makes me go ape. I hope the challenge of bringing this game to cartridge format doesn't drive anyone bananas.
  22. Well, I have some questions. Will we see Evercade releases with titles from the following consoles? 1. Atari 5200 2. Turbografx-16 3. Neo Geo
  23. I still have my Game Boy Advance laying around. I loved a lot of the titles - Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, Elevator Action, the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Dreamland, Donkey Kong and of course Tetris!
  24. Asteroids, Adventure (love it!), Centipede and Haunted House!
  25. Evercade announced on Twitter their packages for the Evercade Vs units. They will have a starter pack and a premium pack. What do you think, sirs?
