Yes,its all pretty relative,2600's intv's cv's are classic gaming to "US",but to this generation and the next, xbox, wii, playstation, etc, will be considered THEIR classic gaming systems, and newer even more advanced systems coming out will be inevitable, hope i worded this right!this is like thinking about family lineage!!!,

Yes,sorry, thats what I meant to say.

Hi,I just recently read an article in COLECONATION,of how we have approached the PEAK of the CLASSIC VIDEO GAMING REVIVAL,and pretty much it said" will the next generation have as much interest as "we do",and take the torch, and keep CLASSIC GAMING alive?only time can tell for sure, any thoughts?

ATARI released "super games"for the 7800,carts that had an extra chip inside them for better sound, graphics,BALL BLAZER was one,not sure if ms pac-man was one of them though.

The whole TRAMIEL family treated ATARI like their own personal bank accounts, they were greedy, its a well known fact that son SAM,and probably others in the TRAMIEL CLAN,AND OTHER EMPLOYEES AT ATARI,or FROGGO, were DOPE FIENDS,judging by the games he put out for FROGGO,I wouldnt doubt it a bit, looks like they were just pumping out games to finance their drug habit.I dont think JACK was responsible or helped the game crash though, everthing MUST END at one time or another,it was just a NATURAL occurance, because of consumer demand for better games, graphics, and the ever so FAST changing technology.I can kind of see why JACK wanted out of the video game part of it,and wanted to concentrate on home computers instead,at least he was SMART enough to realize home pc's was going to have a huge profitable future.I do not however, like the fact that he cheapened ATARI'S reputation and quality,by skimping and penny pinching,to FATTEN HIS OWN BANK ACCOUNT,WHICH IS OBVIOUS,is all he cared about. My opinions have changed since reading up on this clown JACK,i used to have a more positive opinion of him,not anymore, the more i read about the TRAMIELS the more i detest that name, and the more disqusting facts i round up on them. This is just my observation,i could be wrong on some things,i JUST DONT LIKE THE WAY HE RAN a great company like ATARI,HE SHOULD HAVE RESPECTED THE NAME AND THE ATARI FANS BETTER!!!!!!!!!But i guess he was no different than other execs, who are in there to make money, after all,its all about money, morals go out the window in the corporate world, and you just have to watch todays news to see examples of that!!!!!!!!!....ENNNRRRROOOOOOOOON

I just started collecting for the 7800,and I love it.One of the things I love the most,is,it has a PAUSE BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!,its seems so retarded that while playing a game and racking up a high score, you have to go to the washroom, answer door, etc, and lose the game, yes, some games have pauses between waves, but with the pause button,of course, you can pause at ANY TIME,hot damn!.Its the only console I own with a pause button.I'm a little disappointed with the sound quality though,POLE POSITON 2,IS EXACTLY THE SAME SOUND AS ENDURO FOR THE 2600,I expected at least better engine sound, since it was a"7800",but not all games have such weak sound.Must be because of JACK TRAMIEL'S nit picking and skimping on quality, but thats another topic altogether.Does anyone know if MIDNIGHT MUTANTS was made for other consoles?or was just a 7800 exclusive?great game,I have 3 copys, loose, opened box,and a sealed box.

Yeah, but, its a FROGGO game!WE ALL know FROGGO made the best games right?

About 2 months ago,I past up a 2600 DEV unit at my local Value Village,BECAUSE OF MY IGNORANCE.I later posted my finding on ATARIAGE,and everyone said i should have bought it,as its considered a treasure, went back ,and it was GONE.I AM KICKING MYSELF RIGHT TO THIS DAY,I thought the DEV unit was a home modification,by some bloke who just wanted to modify his 2600,so i past on it,I had no previous knowledge of what a DEV was.I realise most of you guys here are extremely knowledgeable, but, when first starting out collecting,is there anything today, you wished you hadn't passed on when you had the chance to buy it?It would make me feel better!Thanx in advance!

It takes patience. I started a little over a year ago, and my first purchase had 17 7800 titles and a mint console already. Now I'm up from something like 17 carts and 11 boxes to over 40 carts and 25 boxes. Many of them have instructions, too. The most expensive ones were Mean 18 (about $50) and Tank Command which was about $100. Oh, BTW, $450 is ridiculous for Tank Command any day, IMO. It might be worth $100 CIB (I know I overpaid for mine, but I'm not complaining), and it might be worth $250 MIB, tops. Splurge a bit, though. Grab that Subterranea while you're at it, or grab Jawbreaker or something. Pitfall II is another good one, as it tends to blur the line between 2600 and 7800 quite well. You'll find plenty of enjoyable 2600 games, and each one of those you get makes the next 7800 find that much sweeter. BTW, JP, those are great looking carts (Pete Rose and Tomcat). I bet the ones you replaced them with are mint. Which game are you missing, anyway? PM Sent about game Yes,I know it takes patience, something I DO NOT have,THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!

Yeah, true, but classic gaming stuff is all some, collect, thats the only thing i look for in thrift stores, and i find treasures every time i go in,which is 2 times a week,Theres been a steady flow of classic gaming consoles ,carts, etc, for the past 6 years now since ive been collecting,at value village. The only thing i havent found are 7800 games.Although things are dying down now probably cause ive bought everything!i will not buy at flea markets cause, where do you think they get most of their stuff?......at thrift shops of course!,and sell them 3 times the price that they were at the thrift shop.

Alot of the homebrew authors have no fancy degrees, and the games they produce blow away most of the corporate authored games, who had engineering degrees.I just realised part of the reason for that was because of the time and money contraints the big corporate designers had.It just goes to show, that the 2600,7800,or any other console was capable of MUCH better, games, graphics wise anyway.
-
I didnt realise it would be so hard collecting for the 7800.I figured since the system wasnt that popular, compared to the other ATARI consoles,it would be easy to get carts for it,boy was I WRONG!,you have better luck finding an old 70's 8 track BEE GEES tape or a cabbage patch doll than a 7800 console and games,ANYWHERE!,besides maybe the net,and the games are even hard to find there!or they're insanely OVERPRICED,or,crummy stock, with only common games, like the pack in pole postion 2.
-
You're referring to "THE DUKES OF HAZZARD" for the 2600,i take it?I wasnt even aware there was a 2600 version,as I have the Colecovision version.
-
I dont celebrate Christmas, its all just commercial cash grab, and needless stress for nothing, obligated to buy others gifts, just because its "christmas"anyway, credit card debt,id like any 7800 game for a gift,no special occasion either ,since i just started collecting for it.
