Hi,I just recently read an article in COLECONATION,of how we have approached the PEAK of the CLASSIC VIDEO GAMING REVIVAL,and pretty much it said" will the next generation have as much interest as "we do",and take the torch, and keep CLASSIC GAMING alive?only time can tell for sure, any thoughts?

"MISSINIG IN ACTION,"looks like it would have been a cool f#$%^&g game to me!!!!!!

I just got a 7800 recently, and I too am immensely enjoying it! I was kinda bummed that the pause button only works on 7800 games, but hey -- the console is great. Can't say much about the controllers, though -- then again, Atari wasn't exactly the king of controllers...I remember the CX-40 got a lot of flak....then the 5200 came out -- I don't remember many comments about it from then, but I do remember having a helluva time trying to play Pac-Man with it...the 7800 -- better controller than the 5200 but odd placement of the fire buttons....
Stuff that I've been digging for the 7800:
Food Fight
Galaga (I used to find this game boring!)
Dig Dug (still prefer the 8-bit version over any other home version)
Ms. Pac-Man
Ball Blazer
and the coolest Asteroids conversion I've ever seen!
BTW -- remember, the sound in the 7800 uses the exact same chip as the 2600...which of course makes me wonder why the sound in the 7800 version of Ms. Pac-Man is so much better than that of the 2600 version...but it would definitely explain the Enduro sounds on PPII.
ATARI released "super games"for the 7800,carts that had an extra chip inside them for better sound, graphics,BALL BLAZER was one,not sure if ms pac-man was one of them though.

I am very happy with the Donkey Kong, DK jr & Mario Bros port for the 7800. I think they are very nice & fun to play.
But does anyone remember DK3 in the Arcades. That was a long time fav for some time. Then recently I got to playing it with a coleague at work via mame... this game still rocks.
I think the 7800 can handle a port of that game... wishfull thinking.
Yeah, ive got donkey dong 3 (my friends call it) on mame, hard game!

Kassar leaves the business, gets a sex change, and opens up a female impersonaters club cabaret, and gets busted for cocaine possesion

I believe it was exclusive never heard of another console with it
Took me forever to find a new in box one and you got 1 loose 1 open 1 new
Nice find!!!!
BTW I love the game fun, indepth as compared to the other 7800 titles
fun to sit down with on cold rainy day in winter or fall
I got all my MIDNIGHT MUTANTS on E-bay,expensive route, but the quickest way for me to enjoy these raritys.

All the time and frustration spent in collecting is worth it after all. Yeah, PPII's kind of a stinker, but there's worse (Jinks).
Yes,indeed it is worth it!!!!!

The whole TRAMIEL family treated ATARI like their own personal bank accounts, they were greedy, its a well known fact that son SAM,and probably others in the TRAMIEL CLAN,AND OTHER EMPLOYEES AT ATARI,or FROGGO, were DOPE FIENDS,judging by the games he put out for FROGGO,I wouldnt doubt it a bit, looks like they were just pumping out games to finance their drug habit.I dont think JACK was responsible or helped the game crash though, everthing MUST END at one time or another,it was just a NATURAL occurance, because of consumer demand for better games, graphics, and the ever so FAST changing technology.I can kind of see why JACK wanted out of the video game part of it,and wanted to concentrate on home computers instead,at least he was SMART enough to realize home pc's was going to have a huge profitable future.I do not however, like the fact that he cheapened ATARI'S reputation and quality,by skimping and penny pinching,to FATTEN HIS OWN BANK ACCOUNT,WHICH IS OBVIOUS,is all he cared about. My opinions have changed since reading up on this clown JACK,i used to have a more positive opinion of him,not anymore, the more i read about the TRAMIELS the more i detest that name, and the more disqusting facts i round up on them. This is just my observation,i could be wrong on some things,i JUST DONT LIKE THE WAY HE RAN a great company like ATARI,HE SHOULD HAVE RESPECTED THE NAME AND THE ATARI FANS BETTER!!!!!!!!!But i guess he was no different than other execs, who are in there to make money, after all,its all about money, morals go out the window in the corporate world, and you just have to watch todays news to see examples of that!!!!!!!!!....ENNNRRRROOOOOOOOON

I just started collecting for the 7800,and I love it.One of the things I love the most,is,it has a PAUSE BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!,its seems so retarded that while playing a game and racking up a high score, you have to go to the washroom, answer door, etc, and lose the game, yes, some games have pauses between waves, but with the pause button,of course, you can pause at ANY TIME,hot damn!.Its the only console I own with a pause button.I'm a little disappointed with the sound quality though,POLE POSITON 2,IS EXACTLY THE SAME SOUND AS ENDURO FOR THE 2600,I expected at least better engine sound, since it was a"7800",but not all games have such weak sound.Must be because of JACK TRAMIEL'S nit picking and skimping on quality, but thats another topic altogether.Does anyone know if MIDNIGHT MUTANTS was made for other consoles?or was just a 7800 exclusive?great game,I have 3 copys, loose, opened box,and a sealed box.

Oh silly ass! Here's a cheap game readily available online right now!

Cousin Vinnie
Yeah, but, its a FROGGO game!WE ALL know FROGGO made the best games right?

Come to think of it, though, maybe we're looking for the wrong games. I think the 7800's best games are ahead of it.
Hey, Rik, have you tried the homebrews yet? I've got a Burger Time cart and a Pac-Man cart. You'll have to look up Beef Drop instead of Burger Time. Both of those are loads of fun, and Frogger has had a lot of work done on it since I played the last time.
Yeah,THANKS SHADOW460,ILL DEFINENATLEY try out the homebrews, one question,in what ways does BEEF DROP differ from BURGER TIME?,thanx!

About 2 months ago,I past up a 2600 DEV unit at my local Value Village,BECAUSE OF MY IGNORANCE.I later posted my finding on ATARIAGE,and everyone said i should have bought it,as its considered a treasure, went back ,and it was GONE.I AM KICKING MYSELF RIGHT TO THIS DAY,I thought the DEV unit was a home modification,by some bloke who just wanted to modify his 2600,so i past on it,I had no previous knowledge of what a DEV was.I realise most of you guys here are extremely knowledgeable, but, when first starting out collecting,is there anything today, you wished you hadn't passed on when you had the chance to buy it?It would make me feel better!Thanx in advance!

Uhm??? I see record players in thrifts all the time. Their easier to come by than Atari stuff. The thing with Atari stuff, is, it's a game, and unlike music, most games aren't redone on the new format (yes, I'm aware of the Activision compilations, and the atari Arcade compilations...but what new system can you get parker brox Frogger on?)
That, and the fact that unlike Records and players, the systems are a lot smaller, and easily left in boxes (and forgotten) not to many people pack up their dresser sized record console or forget it in a corner of the attic, so they go to sale.
Yes,very true, record players, turntables, are a HOT item at thrift stores,I saw 3 of them snatched up today at value village, whenever theres a record player, and you're looking for one BUY IT IMMEDIATELY,as soon as you leave the store and come back......ITS GOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I didnt realise it would be so hard collecting for the 7800.I figured since the system wasnt that popular, compared to the other ATARI consoles,it would be easy to get carts for it,boy was I WRONG!,you have better luck finding an old 70's 8 track BEE GEES tape or a cabbage patch doll than a 7800 console and games,ANYWHERE!,besides maybe the net,and the games are even hard to find there!or they're insanely OVERPRICED,or,crummy stock, with only common games, like the pack in pole postion 2.
It takes patience. I started a little over a year ago, and my first purchase had 17 7800 titles and a mint console already. Now I'm up from something like 17 carts and 11 boxes to over 40 carts and 25 boxes. Many of them have instructions, too.
The most expensive ones were Mean 18 (about $50) and Tank Command which was about $100. Oh, BTW, $450 is ridiculous for Tank Command any day, IMO. It might be worth $100 CIB (I know I overpaid for mine, but I'm not complaining), and it might be worth $250 MIB, tops.
Splurge a bit, though. Grab that Subterranea while you're at it, or grab Jawbreaker or something. Pitfall II is another good one, as it tends to blur the line between 2600 and 7800 quite well. You'll find plenty of enjoyable 2600 games, and each one of those you get makes the next 7800 find that much sweeter.
BTW, JP, those are great looking carts (Pete Rose and Tomcat). I bet the ones you replaced them with are mint.
Which game are you missing, anyway?
PM Sent about game
Yes,I know it takes patience, something I DO NOT have,THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!

You can't expect this stuff in thrift stores indefinitely. How often do you see victrolas in thrift stores? Eventually it transitions from yesterday's junk to rare antiques.
Yeah, true, but classic gaming stuff is all some, collect, thats the only thing i look for in thrift stores, and i find treasures every time i go in,which is 2 times a week,Theres been a steady flow of classic gaming consoles ,carts, etc, for the past 6 years now since ive been collecting,at value village. The only thing i havent found are 7800 games.Although things are dying down now probably cause ive bought everything!i will not buy at flea markets cause, where do you think they get most of their stuff?......at thrift shops of course!,and sell them 3 times the price that they were at the thrift shop.

Alot of the homebrew authors have no fancy degrees, and the games they produce blow away most of the corporate authored games, who had engineering degrees.I just realised part of the reason for that was because of the time and money contraints the big corporate designers had.It just goes to show, that the 2600,7800,or any other console was capable of MUCH better, games, graphics wise anyway.

I re-started playing this game and I have gotten pretty good, or so I thought untill I got to level 9, the Sheriffs car is just too fast. Has anyone gotten past the 9th level?

You're referring to "THE DUKES OF HAZZARD" for the 2600,i take it?I wasnt even aware there was a 2600 version,as I have the Colecovision version.

I dont celebrate Christmas, its all just commercial cash grab, and needless stress for nothing, obligated to buy others gifts, just because its "christmas"anyway, credit card debt,id like any 7800 game for a gift,no special occasion either ,since i just started collecting for it.

I found the wireless controllers make good door stops

Value Village is crap. If you do find a system they have the hook-ups selling seperately. That means that sometimes someone who just needs the hook-ups buys those and you'll find a system, search the store for a half hour and then realize the hook ups don't exist. If the system is any kind of rare then you'll have to order the hook ups online, and by that time you'll be better off to have just got the whole thing from an online seller.
Still sometimes you'll luck into something. One time I found a Gamegear carryinging case with a Gamegear battery (still working), Gamegear magnifier, and a bunch of empty game shells for 5 bucks altogether. Not a great find, but okay.
The VALUE VILLAGE I go to keeps the hookups and accessories for the consoles(if they came in together in the back rooms, and will say so on price sticker,i just got a complete ATARI 7800 ,controllers hookups, pole position 2 cart, for $19.00,it all depends on who the manager is.

I'm heading up to Quebec City this weekend with my wife, and wanted to hit one or two of these stores on the way. Do they usually have video games there, or is it pretty hit and miss, like Goodwill stores?
VALUE VILLAGE is chock full of classic games and consoles, thats where i get all mine, almost everyday new stuff comes in

I just wanted to mention that Fathom wasn't all that great a game on the Intellivision because it was based on an Atari 2600 game that itself wasn't very good. According to one of the Imagic programmers, Fathom started out life as a nifty animation of a dolphin jumping out of the water. It looked good, so they tried to program a game around that theme, and they admitted that it didn't work too well. I've never played the Intellivision version, but I have the TI-99/4A version, and it seems that they managed to add a little more gameplay to it by that point. But still, it's not all that fun to play.
Rik: There's not any tips I can give you to help you get past the wizard level. Other than to stay a very short distance from the mice until a wizard is nearly on you, then touch it. If you can pick up the icon that will extend your 'power pill' time, hang on to it and use it strategically. Good luck to you. The devil levels are pretty cool looking, with the animated skulls and all.
Thanx SteveW,I took your advice and got through to the DEMON screen, with 1 Knight left and got killed 3 seconds later. This game is FRIGGIN HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have we hit the classic gaming peak?
