  1. The funniest thing is that, first of all ,I assume the ATARI VCS made its apprearance in 1978-79?,I never, and none of my friends knew about it until this kid at school told me about it in late 1980,I just cant figure out why I didnt hear about it till then!I didnt even see commercials till late 1980,AND I was a pretty "into it" kind of kid who knew ALOT about the entertainment industry, and no,I didnt live in TRANSYLVANIA or ROMANIA,or any other isolated country I was born in,and still live in Canada,so in other words,I should have heard about it long before 1980,THAT IS if I'm correct in my assumption the 2600 or vcs came out in 78or 79,anyboby know for sure?Thanx

  2. the damn flickering ruins alot of good games

Man the 2600 is all about the flicker! Embrace it :D

Yes,there are alot of great 2600 games that flicker,BUT,if there is another version available, why play the flickering one!and there are MANY versions of FROGGER that dont flicker.Flicker is something about the 2600 I always hated, however,if the game is an original or not an arcade port, and there's no other version,I can live with some flicker!

  3. I've played a few different versions of Frogger, but to me, I'd have to pick the 2600 version as the best. I guess one part of it is that the controls. They feel smooth and are very repsonsive. I've played a few versions where the controls just felt...bleh.

Another thing I like....you can choose the difficulty where you don't get squashed when you reach the end of the screen...you just scroll! I love that! I always hated where if I didn't jump to the next thing and hit the end of the screen, I got squashed.

Anyways, your opinions on the 2600 version of Frogger! (Now if I can just reach the 4,000 mark!)

Have you never tried Frogger by Starpath? Man if not you are missing out big time for although Parker Bros did a good job the Starpath version is arcade perfect. For me there is only one, the Starpath Frogger ;)

Does the STARPATH version flicker?Parker Brothers to me flickers WAY TOO much,i dont bother with it anymore, the damn flickering ruins alot of good games

  4. Hi all, upon opening up one of my 2600's I noticed inside that there are 2 adjustment screws/dials,one is the,"COLOUR RANGE ADJUST,and the other one is "SOUND CARRIER FREQUENCY ADJUST",does anyone here know how to adjust these?or, if you should even touch them at all, since they were adjusted at factory.I figured these 2 adjusters can come out of adjustment over the years and a probable cause of sound, picture quality problems.Thanx!

  5. This is the best thread I have SEEN IN YEARS!!!!!!!!!!.I LOVE reading and seeing pics of anything to do with the SWORDQUEST SERIES,keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!!Especially stuff from an actual winner like MIKE RIDEOUT!!!!!!!!!!Im going to try earthworld and fireworld tonight, too bad, airworld never came out and waterworld is so hard to find

  6. I used to play EVERYDAY and NIGHT when I was a kid back in 81-82 for like 5-6 hrs at a time!.Now I enjoy reading about classic gaming and collecting the games and consoles more than playing them.

  7. Who wants to bet we see one on Ebay within a month cause its gone already?

Yep,i went back this morning and it was GONE.It will end up on ebay,or,possibly another AA member will post it as a "thrift shop find"

  8. I bid for Pete Rose Baseball on E-bay,and the bidding was FIERCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,over 40 bids,I was outbid,it sold for like $100.00 U.S,so i figure it must be good,or is it because its rare?

Was that boxed or loose? Link?

    It was boxed with instructions

  9. The satisfaction i got when i successfully completed pitfall 2 with a perfect score, was indescribable!!!!!!!!!!!!!I,ve beat the game quite a few times on the 2600 version,i'll try to do the same on the CV and INTV version, that will keep me busy for a while. The hardest part of beating this game is that there is no PAUSE button,so if i had to go to washroom ,I had to place harry in a safe positon, couldnt do that with pitfall 1 though, since of course its timed.Even having to scratch an itch anywhere on your body would cause you to die or lose time.

  10. I saw a modified 6-switch ,2600 at the thrift shop today. It had a blue interface coming out on the lower left side, just above the woodgrain strip, and had "textool" printed on it,and there was a toggle switch installed on the bottom of console. The interface is about 1.5 inches long and has about 20 pin holes on each side that looks like a chip or something plugs into it,i didnt buy it,as i no longer have room for consoles anymore.Anyone know what this mod is?

  11. I remember when i first got PITFALL 2,the first thing that blew me away was the MUSIC!,3 part harmonys!THAT TIME IN MY LIFE WAS PRICELESS,i wish i could relive it!!!!!!!!!,i thought it was the best thing at that time,i couldnt believe that they were able to program that on the 2600,now i know it was because of a special chip added in the cart itself that gave it a boost.

  12. Today when i was at the my local videogame store i was looking through the usually atari games that where out in the front knowing that steve (the store owner) only keeps his common games there and the rarer ones in the back i took a look over there and spotted Sword quest water world w/o the box and the comic im 50% sure the original sword quest games needed those i asked him how much he wanted for it and he said 200$ :x i offerd him 50$ trying to haggel with him but he had his price set. and i was wondering on everone elses opinion should i really pay 200$ For the game lose? or deffintly not worth it. :|

If YOU want it bad enough,go for it,never mind what anyone else says, you can try to find it elsewhere for less, with a little patience, but,in the end do what YOU feel is right for YOU!people can give helpful suggestions which is good, but DONT feel stupid because of what someone else SAID regarding YOUR CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  13. $200.00 for that loose WATERWORLD cart?i doubt the seller cares that everyone thinks he's crazy, cause he KNOWS someone WILL pay that for it,it's just a matter of time! There,s ALWAYS someone who wants something BAD enough,to some, that someone is labeled a"sucker",to that person,it was a great score, everyone has different priorities in life.Ive seen guys paying thousands for a baseball

  14. I think the FPS games helped ruin the interest of ADVENTURE gaming, for me anyway, ever since i got into FPS's,I no-longer have patience for Adventure games where the action is slow and puzzle solving, compared to the fast, shoot everything in sight action,of FPS's.Its kind of like going from dial -up internet to lightning fast cable, you cant go back,I wish i had never gone to FPS's,cause i really enjoyed those adventure games,FPS's CAN have a negative impact on your life,i want everthing to happen and go fast in my life!!!!!!!!!,I no longer have patience for slow things! And life just doesn't WORK that way!

  15. I love the Sierra Quest games for the pc,especially Police and King's Quest. One thing i do HATE is the earlier sierra games that used that retarded typing command thing,I understand that was the best they could do back then as the point and click thing wasnt yet invented, but,Sierra wanted to do remakes of all the type command games and modernise them with the waaaaaay better point and click. But,as you would guess, people started belly aching about it,"ohh, its ruining the nostalgic beauty of it" they said, well there was plenty copys of the old type command games around,I wish Sierra released the point and click versions and vga remakes,i have No patience typing what i want to do in a game,I wish i did,I havent played the early quest games, wish i could, cant get into them.

  16. Hey Im chatting with some one who lives in Romania and I ask him if theres any old video games like Atari to NES and he said very little even in new games lile PS1 or so so Im wondering if anyone here knows anything about any vidoe games in Romania? So far all he found are Famiclone games. :ponder:

Has he ever seen any Werewolves and vampyres, seriously!!!!!!!!Its pretty amazing that theres any video games and systems at all in Romania!

  17. Yes, i love cartridges also,as i beleive they are the most durable format for video games,I doubt you'll see many of those new fancy cd-rom games playable in the next 20-30 years like game carts are now playable, one deep enough scratch, thats it.In all my 300+ cartridges, none have gone bad,and ive never had a non-working cartridge!----yet,Technology is great,to bad it never works half the time, and i dont fall for everynew gadget that comes out,if i spent all my money on all the new gadgets,id have nothing left for retirement!cell phones,i-pods i this i that, its ridiculous,i still use dial up $50.00 plus for cable?,yeah right,i might just order bed springs in my coffin when i pre pay for my funeral,i want to be comfortable.

  18. Please, excuse the title intentional music pun. :)

I've noticed we have quite a few UK Atari fans on these forums. I've seen the commercials from there, so i know the system was sold in the UK and seems to have been successful.

However, I was lead to believe from various gaming history web sites and books that people in that part of the world mostly came into video games by way of Home computers like the ZX, Beeb, Amstrad, and the C-64. Versus consoles which is where most Americans were intorduced to video games.

How big was Atari, especially the 2600, in the UK?

    I'm very curious.

    -Ray

I dont live in the U.K,but, ive noticed ALOT of VERY cool Atari 2600 stuff on E-bay,from the U.K,alot of stuff you cant even find here in Canada anyway, not to mention CV stuff as well,i think theres a couple of neat colecovision parts suppliers in the U.K?Plus, ive seen alot of British rockstars wearing vintage atari and CV t-shirts,as well as naming their bands after a classic gaming object,so classic gaming must have played a big part in their lives growing up.
