I really don't understand today's gamers who want realism in their games.Games to me are about Fantasy. Why do folks want to escape reality?, because UN-reality is better.I really miss the pixelated, cartoonish fun adventure gaming and 1st person shooters that stimulated your imagination which is long gone with today's games.

I use three things, 1-Contact cleaner, 2-Sponge tip swabs, 3-Emery board nail files.I use emery board nail files ONLY for really dirty console ports that won't clean with contact cleaner or alcohol ONCE per console but that's rare, has been for me anyways. They are thin, but thick enough for both sides of contacts in port and you just have to insert back and forth a couple of times for the stubborn corrosion. After that i use contact cleaner spray for cleaning any contact after wards, which has no water in it like the typical 70% Isopropyl alcohol does.I then gently scrub the contacts with sponge tipped swabs, which leave no lint, soaked with contact cleaner, then another spray to rinse, let dry.I myself have only used the emery boards a couple of times.Gotta watch that you don't end up filing the contacts down too nothing which can happen with too harsh sandpaper of any type.

Ok. Recommendations? My recommendation: Don't listen people who tell you the standard 7800 prolines suck. For two reasons: 1. They really aren't that bad, in fact they're pretty good. But people love to be overly dramatical about this subject. 2. All of the 7800's two button games require genuine 7800 controllers, or the ability to modify another controller with two buttons to work properly with the 7800. You can get teh 7800 euro pads, but they are more expensive, harder to find, and just as sucky as the Proline sticks in a different way. YES!Good Point!Midnight Mutants will NOT work with 3rd party sticks, you just get a black screen. Was using another 2 button controller, I thought the game was bad, but then switched back to the Pro-line and voila! back to playing MM!!

I thought Tower Toppler was an Atari 7800 exclusive, like Midnight Mutants, i was disappointed when i learned it was not.I agree however that it's a tough game, a fantastic game!!

Not to derail the Smurf topic but, does a prototype of DRACULA exist?, the one that was supposed to be released but shelved because of crash? It looked really awesome in the composite screenshots advertised by Coleco. This is a game I always wished could be released.I bet it would be really fantastic if done by Youki.I really don't know much about the process of making a game a reality, maybe this one is too out of reach legally? i hope not!

About delicate screens like those on Portable DVD players and gaming handhelds. What do you guys use to clean those screens?I saw above how regular paper towels and Window cleaner will scratch the heck out of them, which i have experienced as true.Heck anything seems to damage those screens really, any info on the PROPER way to clean these damn things?Thanx!

I started to get into the 2600 around 1980.I was around 9 or 10 at that time.I have to admit at 1st, I had high expectations just from looking at the box art for Combat, the pack-in game. But hey, I was NEW to this stuff!, so I didn't know better. When I plugged it in, I was a little disappointed, but that soon went away when I started to play, loads of fun!I quickly caught on that the games didn't look like the pictures on the box art.But still, the awesome detailed pictures on the boxes STILL gave you high expectations, maybe a bit of both play and look wise also no matter what.If you think about it, box art that matched 100% exactly what the games look like on your TV screen wouldn't incite people to buy as much, that I understood, simple marketing logic really.Activision caught on to this as they were about giving to their customers what others wouldn't by including a screenshot on the front or back of every Activision game box.I thought that was very cool and respectful for Activision to do that. They spiced up the art on the front or a composite "drawing" of screenshot on the back, or other combinations, which gave a more realistic preview of game at least.Yeah sure it's silly to expect games to look like the box, but SOME did.I vividly remember a kid with his father at an Atari kiosk at a department store around Christmas time in 80-81 complaining, saying "this game doesn't look like it does on the box!"

Yeah, thanks for your interest!.I am so strapped for cash right now it's not funny. When i do get a good digital camera, i'll start posting pics.I haven't been working steadily due to the crap economy, so ALL my cash has been going strictly to bills and crap food, that's how tight it is for me, can't even buy a camera. I have the PC game boxes stacked on top of each other, and the weight is crushing the ones on the bottom, i'll have to fix that soon, i've crushed some nice mint boxes already dammit!

I do believe the controller one uses matters, for me anyway. It's a bit of whatever you are used to playing with a certain game.Controllers behave differently, just have to pick the one that works for you.A lot have said justifiably, the CV stock joystick is hard to use, on some games it works great.I find it fantastic, and responsive, i get my highest scores for H.E.R.O, Pitfall 1&2 using the stock CV stick, but for a game like Pepper 2, forget it.So it depends on the games also.I played those games so much on the CV i can't use anything else.Part of the reason was there wasn't too many "decent" aftermarket CV sticks available, so i just got used to the stock ones.

If you think classic gaming boxes take up lots of space, try the old PC game boxes!!Remember when PC game boxes were huge 9x12 inch boxes or bigger?I have about 400+ of those, THOSE are a problem for me.I don't want to throw them out or flatten them as most have shrink wrap, and the mint boxes demand more $$ if i ever decide to sell the games. As for my 2600, Intv, 7800, ColecoVision boxes?, i have them put away nicely in thick plastic wrap lined boxes under my basement stairs. My basement is finished and climate controlled.I also have a huge box full of 2600 and ColecoVision boxes in my closet that i had since the early 80's, and the boxes are still crisp and new just like the day i bought them and the boxes are just loose in there with no plastic bags.I store my games loose on shelves, or in boxes as i too don't have a huge house and collect other things as well. Then of course, those boxes full of boxes take up room too, but not as much if you arrange the game boxes properly inside the boxes themselves.
-
Really?I haven't opened them up to see what's inside.I wouldn't doubt it, the way they make things today, made NOT to last.
-
I can't understand the mind of folks who think it's okay to sell dirty, smelly grimy things.Plus, clean merchandise of ANY type demands more $$$, regardless of condition.

The CX-40 is the best I've ever used for any game.I've got most of the popular stiks like the Wico's, and to be honest can't see why they're so highly praised.Simple, light, just the right size, fits great in hand, responsive, the CX-40 rules supreme for me.It's all a matter of personal taste though.I just found a Flashback 2 with two nice new CX-40'S, and they did a fine job of re-creating them.
-
That's what i thought also.Every 400 I've found is exactly the same shade of off white/beige, were the 400/800's PURE white?I don't mind the yellowish color anyway.Pure white is too dirt sensitive anyhow, off white hides better.

Yeah, it seems Canada/U.S customs is cracking down.I had to shell over ANOTHER $60.00 to get software i ordered from Micro-soft, where as before, i NEVER paid more.Maybe i was just lucky and my parcels coming from U.S. slipped through customs, but i think they are checking more now to get more revenue to waste as usual.
-
........I wouldn't doubt it.I have been pleasantly surprised numerous times hearing, reading or seeing on TV some extremely famous person that has had some form of classic Atari in their life at one time back then in the 80's or even up until now.
-
From my side, it could be possible. In fact , i have second smurf game done at 70%-80% . But i put it in stand by for now. I was smurfed about smurf after having smurfed "Smurf Challenge". Excellent Youki!I really hope you do finish it, i bet it's gonna be as good as Smurf Challenge!
-
Regardless of bad or not, movie games are cool.I have E.T for my 400, and 2600, and i like them both.I wish they made Cloak and Dagger....have they?, IIRC, there is a proto out there.
-
Movie games suck?, some do.Problem is, depending on the console, most movie plots are beyond or simply too large or ambitious for the machine to re-create nicely.
-
Do you own the game?, have you tried?Yep it is the dumbest thing, but it's a known fact some have had this problem on the 7800 with 3rd party stiks with Midnight Mutants.Go ahead and give it a try, if you haven't already.

Porky's Mysteries.... And a Question About FOX Video Games
Rik replied to Stan's topic in Atari 2600
Could be, do you mean those crappy/faulty TV/GAME switch boxes that connect to the TV itself?I got rid of that garbage years ago and use those co-ax adapters and a signal splitter, best thing i've done!! -
Ouch!Sorry to hear that.I worked at a postal station installing conveyors as an IronWorker working with the Millwrights.I can say I'm NOT surprised that that happened just by watching the postal workers throw the parcels around like hot potatoes.

Not really mad, frustrated is more the word for me playing MAME Ghouls N Ghosts.

Porky's Mysteries.... And a Question About FOX Video Games
Rik replied to Stan's topic in Atari 2600
So, it's JUST the Porky's carts that are prone to failure of all the other FOX titles? If so, i'll go and buy this Porky's game cart that's still at this gaming store i go to, cheap, he want's $5.00.Figures before that, i never saw Porky's anywhere, had to order mine from someone here at AA!
