  1. I had a Sega Master System when it came out and I thought it was pretty good in its day.It was cheap to buy and the games where not too expensive It certainly superceded all of the 8 bit home computers such as the Commodore 64 and the Atari 800 in terms of the quality of the graphics and colours. The sound chip was OK prob not as dynamic as the Sid Chip on the C64 but it was good enough. The music on some games like Space Harrier and Out Run was nice.My main criticism was the lack of 3rd party software support. It's a pity that it was mainly Sega only games on the System. This wasn't entirely a bad thing because Sega where an arcade force at the time with hits like Shinobi and Choplifter. I liked the Sega Master System It held it's own for a couple of years before the Sega Mega Drive arrived.
  2. So true, about 5 or 6 years back me and a few buddies were trying to get a pool hall going and were looking for a bulk buy of 50 mahines or so. We found about 3 guys like this, hundreds of coin ops with minor problems. I swear every one of the guys was off his rocker, even though many of the games had been sitting 20 years collecting dust, packed tight in tiny spaces that I am sure they were paying storage on, they seemed like they could care less if they sold them. Strane Birds is a very good discription, always very very hard to get a hold of these guys too, it's like they don't answer there phones, you just have to hope they are there and stop by It's not surprising really. These old arcade operators never had any passion for the machines in the first place. They where just machines to make money back in the day.
  3. That would be cool if people could see the video of the game. I see there's nothing about the game on KLOV either. Good to see a new arcade game that doesn't involve golfing, bowling, or hunting! Found this video clip for Costal Amusements Sea Wolf
  4. Yes the Skateboard was a total bummer. The game appeared to be aimed at young kids.It wasn't a very kid friendly game. Super Mario Bros was though.
  5. Can old arcade pinball and video games be maintained indefinitely ? Do they have to salvage machines to keep other ones working or are most of the electronic components still being manufactured.Presumably many components where bespoke to the actual games at the time ? Can the bespoke components be remade ? Also of all the classic video games of the late 70's and early 80's that where manufactured anyone have any idea of what percentage of those where dumped v those that where saved / rescued. Is that data out there ? Presumably most ended up in scrap yards ?
  6. No but it looks good.Sea Wolf The Next Mission is apparently a redemption game from Costal Amusements. When you said that it was like the original I presume you mean the original Sea Wolf redemption game from Costal Amusements not the original 1976 Sea Wolf from Midway or its 1978 sequel Sea Wolf 2 ? I suppose this game is a sort of tribute to these machines.
  7. Cool You guys are lucky in the States having all the retro arcades all over the place although obviously it isn't what it once was. Over here in the United Kingdom and in Ireland there is practically nothing like that. The only thing you will find in Arcades is the odd new Video Game from Raw Thrills or Sega and then it's just redemption machines, fruit machines and maybe the odd Air Hockey Table or Pool Table .In a way it's like going back in time to the pre video game era when Electro Mechanical Games and Pinball Machines where the main thing.Arcade Video Games where really just a short 80's fad and its only people today like us here at Atari Age that keep the interest going.
  8. Never really liked Wonderboy as an arcade game.It was the control system that was a real put off the way you had to build up momentum to jump over things and then slow down to miss the next obstacle. Also when you jump onto enemies you don't eliminate them like you do with Super Mario Bros and Sonic. It was a game that looked nice but didn't play nice.
  9. These where early 80's LED or LCD electronic games kind of like TOMYTRONIC.They where small and portable and came in different colours They weren't Game and Watch they where larger almost like a small arcade game that sits on your table.I'm thinking Tiger Electronics made them There was a whole series all from one manufacturer. They weren't arcade inspired games like the Scramble, Defender and Pacman small portable units of that time but they where similar to those anyone have any idea.
  10. Thanks for that advice I think my friend has some of that for his recording equipment
  11. C64 Generally had better sound Atari 800 had more colours.C64 wins though because it had much more software support. The most successfull 8 Bit home computer ever.
  12. Your lucky you can go to Funspot If I lived near there I would be there all the time It must be like a Mecca for classic gaming enthusiasts Just out of interest how much is it to play the old vids ? Is it like a Quarter a play or does it work on Tokens or do you pay per session for freeplay. I would just like to hang out there it would be cool.
  13. Neither One of my two Colecovison Controllers direction control works anymore I understand that Spray Air cleans them out and gets them working again Is this correct or is there another way to clean them ?
  14. It was the second one just wondering if that was a rare one or not
  15. I'm not a programmer, so I wouldn't know how. But, since the game is just a clone of Scramble, wouldn't it be possible to modify the sprites? I know if that's possible it can be done on Vectrex, C64, and Vic-20 since all have home ports of it. There isn't a Scramble 2600 There is a Super Cobra though
  16. How about a Battle Of Atlantis http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7048 or maybe a Mayday hack using Stargate as the engine http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8646
  17. Back in the 80's My Dad had a friend who owned a computer game shop He gave me two loose carts for free Atari Checkers and Skin Diver It must have been the funvision version because the picture was different than the Sancho version listed here.I don't have it anymore must have given it away to the little kid who lived next door at the time after I had moved on from the 2600.Just wondering if that was a rare game ?
  18. I got an Atari Touch Me handheld game for Christmas a few years brfore I got my VCS It was pretty neat so neat I picked one up boxed with instructions on eBay a few years ago Its my pride and joy Very Cool.I don't even play it just like to take it out and look at it. Anyone else have one ?
  19. Ha Ha if you where in Holland It would be Six bottles of Amstel. Takes me back to my holidays in Hillegom Lisse and Haarlem Pick up a crate of Heineken stick it onto the back of the bicycle and skin up a Doobie and cycle back to the camp site Happy Days.
  20. Is that game like Custers Revenge ?
  21. When I was a kid I was one of the few kids around my neighbourhood that had an Atari 2600 but a kid lived down the road and he got the Phillips G7000 Video Pac or Odyssey console.I had a look at it once and it looked OK.He had a lot more games than what I had on the Atari 2600 so I was a little envious at the time. Just wondering now how it stacked up to the Atari 2600 in terms of technical video and audio performance and also Game cost - (There where only around 68 games on the Video Pac but also a handfull of third party games from Parker and Imagic) .Do any of you guys have any idea how the 2 consoles compare to each other ?
  22. Pretty tough. This is just a hack, so it's working within the limitations of the original game (a maximum of 6 invaders per row...and leftmost columns shot away cause the rightmost columns cease to exist). What you suggest would be a completely new game...since the virtually unchanged game engine would no longer be sufficent. This also makes it impossible for the motherships to restore missing columns. Yes I had forgotten about that didn't that also occur on the first (Space Invaders) level of Gorf ? In the Arcade version and the Jaguar Classic CD version only. The Gorf dont restore invaders, he only introduces the initial rack of invaders by spitting them out at the start of each Astro Battles round. Yes of course I had forgotten and I used to be good at Arcade Gorf I got to be Space Avenger once or twice with just three ships which was tough enough for a 10 year old even though Gorf wasn't exactly the hardest game out there.
  23. Telegames still has a bit of stock left then.Last time I checked their catalogue was about 5 years ago. Still quite a bit left here in the UK http://www.telegames.co.uk/index.php?cPath=324_58_59
