The O ring bands arrived. I tried to replace the one in my xbox drive without opening it and using a tweezers like some videos Ive seen, but I couldn't get in there correctly. I am borrowing a longer pair or tweezers from someone at work and going to try again.

I personally find them to be a borderline trash product.

Definitely thinking about this. I've never gotten a system modded before. For a long time I was playing on the playstation mini with those truebluemini sticks on an hdtv. Then I picked up a crt over the summer, and never having played a PS1 on a crt, I was completely floored to the point where I was drooling. I can't believe how amazing N64 and PS1 era games look on CRT and I'm so mad that when I got back into those systems I was using LCD tech. My PS1 still works, but you have to molest the eject button to get the lid to stay closed which is annoying, but still interested in this.

I wish I went with that instead of just the plain old krikzz hu card everdrive
I've been playing tg16CD games on the playstation mini, but when I tried hooking up the mini to a crt it was just terrible, granted I was just using a cheap HDMI to RCA converter. I bought that green little RCA adapter from hyperkin a while back (that acts like a turbobooster), but i heard it can damage your system. I wish I never sold my original turbobooster

I would like one because I stupidly bought a PS4 Slim instead of a Pro and i'd like the bump in fidelity in PSVR.. I need to get the free PSVR dongle that sony is offering for owners. You have to contact them and they mail it to you, but it seems like people are having issues.. I'm afraid they will stop sending dongles, they will become rare, and people will start selling them for stupid amounts of money on ebay. Another fear I have is waiting for a slim or redesign or price drop is that I don't think they reiteration is going to have a disc drive version, and most of my PS4 collection is physical.. well about half and half. Does anyone think Sony is going to drop the physical at some point?

10 hours ago, xenomorpher said:It depends. First thing is to remove the clock capacitor if it's not a 1.6 version XBOX. There's a thread below where I gave advice to someone that had XBOX issues that could help you out, but find out what version it is, a quick Google search will bring up a guide. But open it up and actually look at the board. Someone could swap motherboard or had it sent in, weird and unlikely but possibly. If it has leaked, clean it with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol all over the area.
You can attempt a laser pot tweak, or replace the laser. Find out what DVD drive you have and go from there. Full replacement ones are expensive, and personally I would avoid Philips. I have three drives are dead, and one was a replacement that was DOA. It's anecdotal, so do what you think is best. I haven't checked to see the price or availability of parts for all the DVD drives, but I personally would go with whatever is most readily available.
It is possible to mod it without a working DVD drive, but it's best to have at least one that works in case you need to use a disc rescue program if something goes wrong with the hard drive.
Mrmario2011 has a few great videos on YouTube about the original XBOX. I recommend watching the more recent up-to-date ones. If you can, I would hard mod it. You can get an Open Xenium modchip on eBay pretty reasonably. Just make sure you use 30 kynar awg wire. I wrecked a motherboard by trying to get away with what I had, it was stupid and I was impatient and knew better. You do have to solder, but it's honestly worth the effort. I have used softmodded XBOX systems, and they're fine starting out and you can put larger hard drives in them too. Mrmario2011 goes over that process too, but a modchip in the long run is better.
thank you for all of this!!!
I ordered some new rubber bands for the drive off amazon and i'm going to start off with that and work my way up to what you suggested.

Has anyone noticed how in the last year or so just how much these systems are flooding the market? Every two days a new one comes out. It's definitely degrading the hobby.
-
Also CRT's have a more nostalgic smell to them. A much sweeter smell than LCD's too.
-
When I switched back to CRT I also realized I wasn't as horrible at games as I thought I was! I always thought lag was kind of hard to detect. I mostly play racing games so lag wasn't really too much of an issue for me, but I noticed it in shmups and other type of games.

The radiation coming out of the CRT's is the best part though. They will never be able to replicate that. I mean they could, but it would be absurd.

CRT LOVE!
I just picked up a 20 inch JVC I'Art Sunday night. I've been using a 14 inch Toshiba (love that set). The same guy had/still has a 27 inch version of the Toshiba I have.. I kind of wish I took that one. I am glad to have two CRT's now. When they are gone they will be gone.
Going back and playing systems I was playing on LCD's has been an amazing experience and it really angers me that us gamers were duped in the mid 00's to switch to LCD.

I got so excited about the removable faceplates on the new 3ds.. I wound up only getting one (the wood grain mario). Not sure if it's even real wood, but looks and smells kinda like it. The ice blue ds lite was a sexy lil beast. Most of the colors for the 3ds I thought were hideous.

(Real stereo vision, not just knowing how far things are based on shadows etc.) Have you had a stereo vision eye test? It sounds like one of your eyes may be essentially taking over and telling the other one to turn off. I have somewhat poor depth perception because my right eye is so dominant, but I still see 3D fine on the 3DS.
I agree with you about comfortability. Everything since the OG DS (including the Switch, which is worst of all) hurts my hands or makes them go numb. The Lynx and the Game Gear don't do that 😜
Ah, you might be right about that! I wonder if it has anything to do with watching tv to the side for many years? I notice that if I cover my left eye my right eye vision feels natural, but if i cover my right eye my left eye seems to actually be working to see if that makes any sense. (the vision is the same in both eyes, but one eye doesn't feel like it's doing any work.)

I could use some greatly appreciated advice.
I started cataloging my collection and when I got to the Wii U I was completely floored by the going cost of this that I picked up at the nintendo world store back in May of 2014. They had a midnight launch of Mario Kart 8 there and I managed to snag a copy of the limited edition MK8 with the blue shell. Apparently it's worth quite a bit. This is the red box that was only distributed at the nintendo store in NYC, not the blue box that some stores in Europe got apparently.
I have no clue how to go about selling this. I don't really want to do ebay for just this one game.
Does anyone here know anyone possibly trying to collect this? I thought about maybe emailing gamer collector youtubers!?
Also, I was supposed to sell someone here a 5200 a while back, I sincerely apologize for never going through with that and deciding to keep it.
It's complete, has original receipt.. the box is a little worn as it's been sitting on my shelf for 6 years, but good condition.
I read one place saying only 350 were made, but another site saying a few thousand were made for the launch party..
The only one on ebay right now seems to be an absurd graded one for 5 thousand dollars. It looks like previous sales of it on pricecharters were no where near that but pretty high. I am wondering if this is something I should hold on to, but I could also definitely use the money.

Serious question about the 3D in the 3DS. Do you just stop seeing it in 3D after a while? It was interesting for a bit, and then it just started looking like nothing special like the 3D wore off. Similar to PSVR. It made me feel like i was rolling on ecstasy the first few times and then it started feeling like nothing.. i guess the brain adapts really fast? Anyway, I really wanted to like the 3DS. I have the 3DSXl which was so uncomfortable to hold.. I went and got the New 3DS small one and that was just as uncomfortable to hold. The DS Lite wasn't as bad, and the first DS was actually really comfortable. 3D outrun is a great game for it, along with.. some other 3d old school racer that i'm blanking out on now..

Also I love the feel of the controller.. the regular S one, i'm not sure if I ever tried out the Duke.. I have some third parties controllers that came with the one i bought last friday though that are as big as the duke! one's a gamestop brand, and the other some other brand that's so 200x looking!
-
I just picked up a working one for 45 bucks off an old couple on craigslist last friday. I havent used mine in years because the disc drive stopped working and all the tricks stopped working too. probably a blown clock cap inside. the drive on this one i picked up is also acting up, so i'm using it as much as possible.. i started on a crt but then moved it over to my HD tv and the original xbox looks great in component thru hdmi to this day. a lot of great exclusives and i consider it the Dreamcast 2. i need to get this one fixed.. do you know if you can still mod if the drive broke and the cap leaked?
Furious Karting is a great game! Carve, etc.. I can think of so many great exclusive racing games on it.

youtube dorks with their bizarre need to brag and boast about their collections are a big part of the blame too. the bubble is about to go pop big time.

I don't see anything about it, but does this new berry retron5 support everdrives? i remember the last one I had didn't support multicarts, but it broke before I got into everdrives.
-
oh WOW. that new retron 5 has my favorite color scheme. It's the same colors as the berry PS4 dualshock. Sadly, along with my game gears, I fried my retron 5 putting the wrong AC adapter in. It started smelling like burnt plastic. :( It was a nice little system, but felt cheap as hell. That blue one is cute though, but now I prefer my older systems on CRT again anyway.

Cave people aren't as popular now because we've BECOME cave people in many regards. Look around at mainstream social media and then look at real old school cave people activity.

Least satisfying power switches
in Classic Console Discussion
Posted
the 3DS power switches are terrible. I hate power switches that are flat and barely pressable. If it doesn't have a click, go away!
