  1. why are my 'atari greatest hits' and atari's 'atari greatest hits' always so far apart?

    S.T.U.N. Runner

    Xybots

    San Francisco Rush 2049

    A.P.B.

    Klax

    Hydra

    Road Blasters

    Rampart

    Vapor TRX

    Toobin'

    Gauntlet

    Primal Rage

    Super Sprint

    Area 51/Maximum Force

but no, Atari's idea of their Greatest hits are some half-assed 2600 games. Not that the above aren't half-assed too, but at least there's a little there for me to look at, and some of those haven't had really good console ports (especially STUN runner, Vapor TRX, APB and Xybots)

area 51 on the ds would be awesome

  2. Well I guess it remains to be seen if it's fun or not, but after a solid reboot of Haunted House let's all keep our fingers crossed!

What's old is new again. Atari is refreshing the Atari 2600 classic Yars' Revenge for an all-new shooter on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The neo-retro shooter seeks to expand on the original by fleshing out the story of Yar and detail exactly why she is seeking revenge (against the Qotile empire), as well as add new gameplay modes like co-op.

Can't wait to see some screen shots.

    she?

    yar is a girl?

    should i be aroused?

  3. So, I just had an idea. What if every cart an a homebrew run had a different dungeon? Each buyer would have not only a unique manufacture number but actual differences in the game levels.

    How cool would this be?

Would Albert personally motor-bike over my cranium if I handed him an order for 50 unique binary images to be put into carts?

kind of a lot of negativity here....

i think it's a good idea provided you don't get a cart with dead ends or impossible mazes. or a cart that's too easy.

This reminds me a bit of Yoda Stories for the PC( a truly awesome game)

That game generated random mazes by having separate rooms, and a randomly generated room order.

i'm not a programmer so i'm not sure how they did it, but the effect was great.

i think they made a version for the game boy that did not have random mazes and was panned critically, i don't know if that was due to a limitation on the gb hardware or a management choice.

anyway i think it's a different idea for a vcs game , and anything different should be explored, even if it ultimately dosen't work.

  4. anybody remember time traveler?

    Time Traveler

Wow...I remember that. I saw it in an arcade when I was younger and every time I would go there nobody was playing it.

I used to play this laserdisc game called MACH 3 which was an air combat game, it wasnt all that bad. I also remember a cheezy NFL football game that used real footage of the Raiders and Chiefs if I recall.

arcade laser disc games were a strange breed.

i guess FMV (full motion video) games seemed like a good idea at the time, they sure LOOKED good.

didn't really work for the home consoles though...

  5. I'm not familiar with this one specifically, but for the one I know about, you would go around to all of your friends and get orders... once you had 25 orders, you would mail in the order form with YOUR OWN cash (you were not allowed to collect money from the buyers until you delivered the games).

That seems like an odd rule-- first because it's almost unenforceable. The company can tell me not to take money, but if that's what I want to do, what's the harm? Second, it discourages the dealer from getting paid, which discourages future business.

that is weird - i'm sure most kids wouldn't understand the risk they were taking.

  6. so, who's going to be the first to nitpick the technical inaccuracies?

You mean, like the controllers, the screen colors and the score?

    Nah, not me.

    :D

...and a faux Flashback console too by the looks of the red buttons. Cool pic!

I won't mention that the kid dwarfs the system by relative size comparison, I'll just think it is a neat picture.

    passive agressive nitpickage.

still an awesome pic. where'd it come from?

EDIT: yes i see the source link now - sorry.

  7. Specifically, what I didn't like on the INTV was that you had to stop moving to fire. If someone made a hack of this using the discs on both controllers, similar to Robotron, then I'd be all over it. :ponder:

No kidding, now there's a helluva idea! I'd buy that for a dollar. Or two. lol

    seconded.

  8. Thanks! Yeah, there's something about it that still makes it fun to play, in spite of the glitches...I go through phases with games, wherein I'll start off with one particular title every day for several weeks. In fact, I'm probably not alone there. Anyone fixated on a particular game at the moment?

    laser blast

seems so easy. but there's an element of strategy i missed the first time i tried it.

  9. I just got this and I am curious as to how to play...I will consult the manual on here!

One thing that I take for granted on new games is the background story cinema, the online help available in the game, a pause button etc!

Wish me luck! Just got my Atari 2600 "heavy sixer" working!

it's fun, but has the worse flicker of any atari game.
