  1. I removed the PCB from the keyboard framework and checked the continuity of the switch terminals when the key was pressed and released. At first it failed mostly, but sometimes showed a short. After many key presses, it started working again. Now I can't get it to fail. I soldered it all back together again and it works like a charm. I could have pulled the switch completely out and disassembled it to check it out. But I've broken fragile plastic in the past so I opted not to do so in this case. Back in the day we called it "came clear while testing". Anyway, thanks for the help.
  2. I would be interested if you had a replacement keyboard similar to the one I described. Thanks.
  3. Greetings. One of my TI-99/4A's has a bad 'A' key. All other keys work perfectly. It has a brown keyboard with mechanical keys. Removing the key cap showed a post plunger rather then a square plunger. I shorted pins 23 on the PCB which produced an 'A' on the screen. I'm assuming I need to remove the PCB to be able to replace the key switch. This is of course a moot point if I cannot find replacement keys switches. Your thoughts? Thanks.
  4. Apparently the Option key cap cannot be lifted off without taking the unit apart. I did so and found the keys held in place with two hooked barb tabs. When I relieved a little pressured on one of them, the key worked perfectly. Unfortunately I applied a little too much pressure while testing and broke the tab off. That's the bad news. The good news it that it now works perfectly. Sad that the unit is no longer pristine though.
  5. Greetings and salutations. Getting ready to play with my new FujiNet, I pulled out my Atari 800 and discovered a stuck Option key. I've tried using a paper clip to lift the key cap off to no avail. I'm hesitant to lift any harder fearing this may not be the correct method, might break something, and not be able to find replacement parts. Am I doing the right thing here, is there another solution? Thanks!
