Hey!!!
I'm looking at enhancing my GG screen, and I've narrowed it down to two options:
1. Keep the original screen, but use the backlight from an old DS Lite to illuminate it.
Or
2. Put a new screen in it. Something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251646254707?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
It is beyond my skill level, is there anyone here that can either mod it or recommend someone that can? If so, I will supply all parts, etc...
-
So let me get this straight, Myth busted, there is no Santa Clause?
-
My original Master System died after 20 years. This is my excuse to get a genesis!
I've seen model 1 Genesises on model 2 Sega CD's with no problem. There is what looks like a spacer underneath it.
See:
-
Thanks for the advice, I'll go with a model 1, uncut PBC and a model 2 SEGA CD that fits.
-
yes!! or a repurposed cartridge. for that price, it would be nice if it was an original design.
-
Looks as cumbersome as the PBC! Why must it be made so tall? It is only a passthrough. And where do I plug my 3D glasses in?
-
Anyone here have a pic of what a modded PBC looks like on a model 2?
-
3and 2 are very different. Which do you have?
Whoops, my bad, I know better than to get a version 3, not to be confused with the Genesis III console.
I would prefer a model 2, but may have to go model 1. I'm on the fence.
-
My Master System died on me. I can't even get a pulse! I've had it since 1988.
I never 'upgraded' to a Genesis, after the Master System, I went Nintendo.
So to clarify, to modify a PBC for a Genesis model 3, you'd just have to circumcise it? Do you happen to have a picture of that?
-
That is sooooo unfair!
The redesigned ones won't do cards (I have about 10) and tend to be more expensive, but they will work with my Mark III to SMS adapter.
I'll dig some more and see what I can find.
I was trying to avoid getting a Genesis model 1.
-
But that's the thing, it doesn't fit. You'd have to remove the Genesis shell.
What???
Awe crap!
-
Cool!! It'll look as ugly as a 32X, but if it works, great!
Thanks
-
I searched wikipedia as well as the forums here but to no avail.
Will the Genesis Power Base Converter work on the Genesis 2? I realize that it doesn't look pretty.
Thanks guys!

Well I have a concept, desire, capital, motivation! I just need to settle on a final way to roll it out.
-
That's sorta how I'm imagining it, 2 tiers, with original insert and booklet and with duplicate insert and booklet if I can source it. It's all up in the air right now, nothing has been finalized.
-
VERY good point! I would never represent it as authentic, it would just make titles look better, and hopefully sell better.
-
Want to start with used titles, accessories from wii, xbox, xbox 360, ps1,2,3 nothing too exotic yet. If all goes well, I may add a more diverse selection. Like N-Gage, 3DO, Jaguar, 2600, Coleco, etc.
Any help, pointers, do's or don't's? Advice on what to carry and how much?
Any shop owners out there want to share your experiences?
Also other than www.thecoverprojesct.com are there any other cover sites out there, I think it would be great to be able to sell a more complete game than just a bare disk.

This is really getting close!!!!
Will we be able to use a 'standard' XEGS keyboard? Sorry if I missed that question earlier.
-
OMG!!!
It can do blast processing???????

here:
the Atari 360
Abox
Super Happy Fun Module
the Atari Entertainment System
the Vendel 7800
The Atari 360
the Abox
the Playstation 4
Just add a SID chip in it with a Pokey and call it Gumby damnit!
The Vedel 7800

So if "7800 Expansion Module" isn't a good name...
What about "7800 Super Game Module"
We steal the moniker from Colecovision for its prototype Wafer module. I mean - all of the next games will be Super Games since they'll be able to use more memory, have high score capability and Pokey or Advance Audio Chip sound.
I'm going to be working on the label samples in August, so I would certainly like to hear what everyone feels should be the final name of the module. I will open a poll here in the 7800 Forum and cross post a link here:

Curt

How about these:
The Atari 360
the Abox
the Playstation 4
Just add a SID chip in it with a Pokey and call it Gumby damnit!
The Vedel 7800
the Atari 360
Abox
Super Happy Fun Module
the Atari Entertainment System
the Playstation 4
Or just call it the Curt, it's short, to the point, and curt!!!!
As long as I can call it mine, I will be happy!
oh and to commemorate this event, I peeled off the protective plastic cover from my faceplate!! Owwwwwwww shiny.
-
It will match the exact texturing on the top and smooth sides as the 7800 and yes it will have a brushed aluminum name plate with rainbow line and say "7800 Expansion Module"
It will also come in a professional box as well, this is meant to really have the look and feel of it being on a store shelf from 1984.
I am really pleased to hear this. The authenticity of the aluminum name plate that says "7800 Expansion Module" and the original 1984-style box really highlight the beauty of this project for those who not only appreciate the hardware capabilities and great games, but also the packaging, "retail" experience, etc.
Really great job.
Has the packaging been designed yet?
As for names for the unit, how about:
the Atari 360
Abox
Super Happy Fun Module
the Atari Entertainment System
the Vendel 7800
The Atari 360
the Abox
the Playstation 4
Just add a SID chip in it with a Pokey and call it Gumby damnit!
The Vedel 7800
Or just the Curt, it's short, to the point and curt!!!
Anyone else have any ideas??

SEGA game gear screen mod?
in Classic Console Discussion
Posted
Hmmmm
So changing the backlight would only save battery life, which I don't give an F about, but not make the screen itself look any better? That's a bummer
The upscaling issue is something I was worrying about anyway.
So option 3 sounds good. I'll PM him and see what we can do.
Thanks a million for the help.
