I want to thank Randy for all the support he gave me concerning "Mental Kombat". He was my very first contact concerning Atari 2600 development and helped me quite much in technical questions.
As he helped me so much, I decided to stick to his service for the distribution of the unlimited run of Mental Kombat, even if he asked for distribution through Hozer only.
I'll miss his service and his mails, as he supplied some very good items and quality to me.
Thank you!

Hi,
talking about german TV reporting about videogames I have to tell you that "3 sat" starts a 4-part series this wednesday or thursday evening around 21:00 o'clock. They are going to speak especially about the history of videogames!
Check it out and I even recommend to tape it! It's without commercial-breaks...
Best regards,

Hi,
I've got a Joyboard too, but I'd never dare standing on that thing. The board is big enough for feet, but the disc it is standing on and which has got the contacts is very tiny in comparison to the board atop.
I just keep the joyboard as a cool controller to watch at, but not for use. My 96 kilograms might be too much for me, but they're definitely too much for a joyboard...
I think that the joyboard was important for the development of the Amiga computers aswell. The well-known "Guru-Meditation Error" refers to the developers taking a seat on a Joyboard without any movement to calm down from their development problems...

I received my copy #15 in february or early march and I was the one who discovered the bug in the game (I still call the bug "obvious" so I wonder that no one recognized it before)...
I'm still waiting for the replacement board/label aswell as my first manual.
The sourcecode-book has got some pages in mixed-up-order, but I don't know if Andrew is going to replace that aswell.
Andrew told me that he tries to have the replacements items shipped within 2002. So let's hope that he really manages to do this job and we can play Qb perfectly at christmas.

Hi,
@ MattyXB: Fish finally ordered his own copy (#71) and I'm awaiting his payment. He might get "Mental Kombat" just in time to add it to his exposition. I should come to Berlin and visit the expo then I think.
I wish all owners of "Mental Kombat" as much fun with the game and the limited items as LinkoVitch and MattyXB have and am looking forward to further orders...
Bye!

Hi everybody,
@ LinkoVitch: Thanks for the nice feedback and fine that you liked the game. Three friends and me spent last fridays's evening on drinking beer and playing Mental Kombat aswell...
@ MattyXB: Thank you aswell. As you visited the "Attack of the Killer Memorabilia" in Berlin: was my game shown there too? That might be possible as Marco Kerstens shows some items there and he got the game from me already.
The first 50 orders appeared very fast (within a few days after announcing the limited edition), but now I still have some copies left. I thought that the whole limited run would've been sold out faster.
Thanks and best regards,
Simon

Thanks for the nice post, Rick! Great that you like all the items.
@ Atari2600Lives: game was shipped this morning. Please let me know as soon as you got it.
I still have some copies of the Special Edition left. Please have a look at http://www.quernhorst.de/atari for further information.

I ordered Qb SE#15 and when I got it I saw the bug and told Andrew instantly about it. I can't recall totally anymore what I found back then (it was in February I think), but it was something with a heavily rolling/flickering screen in some cases. The bug was quite obvious and I wondered that Andrew didn't spot it before.
He realized the bug himself after my description and decided to build new boards and replace the already shipped games.
I'm still waiting for my replacement board, labels and manual. Andrew told me TODAY that he will ship the replacements within 2002. So please be patient... it's worth it!
I can't imagine how sb cannot understand the playing rules of Qb without instructions. Didn't you get *ANY* game without instructions before?
Back then when being a kid without money for originals, thousands of c64 games were understood without instructions... so I'm prepared.

If Skate doesn't get back to you soon, I just wanted to let you know that I had the same setup, C64c, 1581 disk drive, and a bunch of software shipped to me this summer and it ran close to 30 lbs. I paid $20 for my whole setup but shipping was over $30 from CA.I think that you meant "1541", because "1581" is that cool 3,5" drive for the C64 and not that normal 5,25" disk drive.
Paying 50 USD for a 1581 would be a real bargain from my point of view.

Hi,
I already posted the news of the article in the german magazine "PC-Action" in other post. So please search for that topic for further information. Thanks!
I just returned from my beach holiday yesterday and am happy to announce that my PAYPAL-account works fine now (I tested withdrawal aswell). People who want to pay for MK2600 via PAYPAL can contact me know or will receive a mail from me soon.
@ McLane: thanks for scanning. :-)

Hi,
@ MegaManFan: the unlimited run of MK2600 will be done by Hozer Video Games and the price will not be higher as other comparable games available from him.
@MattyXB: as I wrote in my last post, Maniac included already a small text about Mental Kombat: there was a note in Maniac issue 6/2002 page 29. As they got one copy in the meantime I hope that they'll publish some more text about my game...
@mvigor and others waiting to pay via PayPal: Unfortunately I'm not able to use myPaypal-account right now as I'm waiting for a 4digit-number which should appear on my next (which is my first) credit-card invoice. So it's not up to me, but sorry for the delay.
Best regards,
Simon

Just to let you all know:
the german magazine "PC-Action" issue 10/2002 was released today and contains a report with photo of "Mental Kombat".
The article can be found on page 46 and looks great!
Hopefully I'll soon find the time and publish a scan of the artcile (along with the articles from "Maniac" and "2600 connection") on my development page...

Hi,
the limited edition of "Mental Kombat" is finally available for the Atari 2600.
The limited edition (only 100 copies available at all) contains:
- labeled, numbered and signed cartridge
- Atari-styled manual
- professional printed Atari-style Box
- handmade red headband with logo
- handmade yellow headband with logo
- Hozer-Video-Games Button
Please refer for further information to http://www.quernhorst.de/atari , it contains screenshots and pictures of all the items aswell.
Only about 40 copies of the limited edition are still to be reserved, the others are already sold. Only 10 copies have been available at the Classic Gaming Expo in Las Vegas, now you can order directly if you missed your copy at the CGE.
Thanks for your interest.

Hi everybody,
the first copies are shipped and I had very good feedback from the first customers. Some copies are still unreserved, so contact me for ordering the limited edition of Mental Kombat. It includes: numbered, labeled cart with manual, original-Atari-Style-Box, a red headband with logo, a yellow headband with logo, a Hozer-Video-Games-Button.
Here are my answers to all the questions in this thread. And to be honest: I wonder if people don't read carefully enough, because all the information I'll tell now are either mentioned on my development page or in the manual of the game.
@ MattyXB: Great that you liked the game. I mentioned in the manual (page 4) that you can't change PAL/NTSC-colors of the gameboard when playing. You can always change PAL/NTSC in the introduction sequences, but NOT change the game-board during play. This would've meant to much checking and switching every frame. The manual also states that you can use the wrong colors on PURPOSE. I's just a feature, not a bug.
@MegaManFan: Please check out my development page again. There will be an unlimited run of carts just after the limited run sold out. The unlimited run will of course not be numbered and signed and only consist of a labeled cart and manual.
The sales price at the show was $50 and only 10 copies were available there. The reason was that no more copies were finished by that time. Where's the problem anyway? People who didn't fetch a copy at CGE can order it directly from me. So everyone interested is still able to fetch his private copy as around 40 limited editions are still available.
Marble Craze was shipped as cart with manual and tin box with sticker. The game is very great, but compared to all the work and money I had to invest in the production of the original-sized boxes and the headbands I don't think that $49 USD is too high in comparison. Having the boxes printed, cut, glued and folded just like a original Atari-Box was really expensive. Even more money was invested in the handmade production of headbands to create something special.
@ren.dhark: Thank you, mate! Great that you enjoy your copy!
I hope that all the other customers are satisfied with their copy. Please refer to http://www.quernhorst.de/atari/owners.html for the current status of your private copy and please let me know as soon as you got the game.
Thank you and best regards,
Simon

The binary of "A-VCS-tec Challenge" shows a very early state only. I just wanted to let you hear the music so far and combined the player with the first screen of the intro.
I think that Paul did a great job on the music so far and look forward to his final version.
Simon
-
@ Albert: the mp3 is much to the original, but I think that the music which I know from the c64 game is a bit slower due to NTSC/PAL reasons.
@ bcsnow: after you finished the 7th level, the game restarts at level one and increases the "Phase" counter by 1. I don't feel like the game gets harder, it's just for striving for a highscore until you die.
Simon

@ Mat: Please send me the URL for that auction via Mail. Thanks!
Maybe it's located in GB and we could make a trade out of that item...
Would be great, because I don't have the FPC yet.

Speaking of c64-Music: Have you ever heard of the Band "Press Play On Tape"? They play c64-tunes using normal music instruments (drums, guitars, ...).
I was lucky to see them play a concert at The Party 2000 in Aars, Denmark (http://www.theparty.dk) where they played 13 songs including Out Run, Warhawk, Commando, and ... AZTEC CHALLENGE!
There is a link at their homepage http://www.pressplayontape.com/download.asp to http://remix.kwed.org where you can download some of the live-tracks including AZTEC CHALLENGE.
These tracks really rock (Commando and Out Run are my favorites).
Enjoy!

I have only ROMs for Emulator.a PRG and a TAP file.
But I think this is not what you searching?
No. As written above I'm only searching for the disk original with box and docs. Finding c64 images on the net is not too hard BTW, I could leech myself.
@ krisjohn: Looking forward to an answer from you, would be great to get that item.
@ Cybergoth: Manuel, that'd be great. Check it out and tell me via mail.

Thanks for the "translation", Mat!
I don't expext the 100 limited carts to be ordered within a period shorter than three weeks, so there should be enough time to place a pre-registration.
@ MayhemUK: anything for trade now? You know what I'm searching for...
Simon
-
@ Thomas: I'm not going to include a B/W-mode for this game.
I think that "Aztec Challenge" is the one c64-game that contained the most bugs. A lot of multicolor-graphics are shown in monochrome colors, every scroll-routine has got bugs, the sprites in the "Vermin" are positioned very badly, and so on. But hey: it was 1983 and nevertheless it is a great game!
@ MattyXB: If I remember it right, the game always restarted at the level where you died on. No need to save/reload a game.
I think that the worst level is "Hopaztec", because that is pure luck. You can't react anymore when you see a spear coming towards you...
@ Tizoc: I spent some weeks in may in Mexico (Yucatan) and visited a lot of Mayan temples and ruins. I expect i.e. the temple of Kukulcan (at Chichen Itza) to be included in my game aswell. So it's not purely being "Aztec", it's "A-VCS-tec".
In the Atari version you will have to run on plain fields aswell, these fields are going to be desert, earth, gras, ... . I know that there is mostly jungle in the aztec and maya region, but that would be impossible for the gameplay.
@ all: Thanks for you posts.
Does anyone have got a disk-original of "Aztec Challenge"? I have got the complete tape-original, but am searching for the complete disk aswell.
Simon

@ ATARIPITBULL: Roughly the game will cost 45 USD. That includes:
- Numbered, signed, labeled (laminated laser print) Cartridge
- Full color printed box (professionally printed)
- Full color printed manual on thick paper (inkjet print)
- Headband Red
- Headband Yellow
- Hozer Merchandise Button
Due to the unsure costs of the headbands and the unsure situation of the headband-print, the final price may vary in the range of 40 to 49 Dollars. But I expect it not being higher than 45 USD.
@ AtariKen64: Sorry I couldn't catch the sense of your post. What did you mean with i.e. "glad the window hasnt closed a id" and the whole rest of the text???
Simon

You can't register for the limited run right now, because the headbands are currently produced and I expect them to be ready in the middle of july.
The production of the bands is a hell of a work: you have to cut the cloth, all that sewing, turning the bands inside out to hide the sewing line, ironing the bands, fold them, etc. I shouldn't have started that job, even if the work is done by a female friend of mine (I have to pay her very good for doing this boring job).
But the results look very great I think...
At the moment I'm additionally thinking of printing a logo on every headband, but that's unsure right now. Is anyone here experienced with "transfer-paper" (printing on it using an ink-jet printer and ironing the picture on cloth afterwards)?
The official ordering phase will be anounced on my development page and here at AtariAge as soon as the game is ready for shipment.

That kind of tape was shipped with my copy of Marble Craze (in the metal tin box) some weeks ago aswell. Now I know that the english expression for it is "velcro strip". Learned something again...
