  1. WOW Thanks for the info but with River Raid it is awesome! It continuously fires, and if you push the joystick up to go faster, you fire faster, and pulling the stick down which slows your speed, it also slows the firing. The only thing is that when you get killed it starts the next life (at the last bridge you blew) instantly because it is still firing even tho you just died. It's weird but kind of fun...

  2.

Thanks for posting the link. I did search, but didn't have the right search words. I did take the one apart that doesn't go left and got it to do so when it was apart but not with the stick itself, I had to press on the inside part over the springs. After quite a bit of Southern Comfort I got out every joystick I owned and realized some play better than others! :dunce: Never thought of that before. River Raid is the perfect joystick testing game!

  3. Also, I agree that the stick with the switch to disable the fire button must be a homemade hack. I have no idea what it might be useful for.

Someone's attempt at a rapid-fire mod, that either never worked, or no longer works?

If I had that stick, I'd feel duty-bound to take it apart and find out :)

Ok I did take it apart and here it is:

  4. I live in Florida! Yes weird we can get mold on leather shoes in the closet! :) Gotta love it. BTW it is raining here today, tomorrow, Christmas. Glad the Atari is an indoor sport.

Anyhow - I keep my boxed games on a bookcase, and my carts, too. Right on the middle shelf. We run the A/C a lot in the winter because it can be 28 degrees today and 60 tomorrow. I would never, ever put them in a storage unit or attic. Mine are in my living room where I can look at them fondly.

  5. Yeah, Galaxian is a great and wonderful game. It is in my all-time top 3. Phoenix is weird but easy and fun for someone that likes to shoot at stuff but won't play it a lot. River Raid is fantastic - the plane that you fly is the most natural feeling control on the 2600 IMHO. And it has 2-player mode. Sometimes I forget about that! One plane is yellow and one is black so you know which one. And Centipede.....

I've been able to get non-Atari friends to play these games and have fun.

  6. It looks like the joystick with Atari on the end is the same as the other, older-style "springy" one that came with (the one that can't go left) but the top of the stick is indented as if the Atari hex fell off this one. The one with the logo attached is beyond repair, I think. The plastic that should be soft is hard as a rock and it looks melted like it was subjected to intense heat but then the logo would have melted off. I dunno. Maybe I can combine the broken one with the one missing the logo. But really I should just leave them alone. I am not much of a mechanic... besides I have a ton of CX-40 to use - not like I am stranded on an island with just these 2 sticks. (Thank GOD for that...)

  7. I never see Smurf glasses at the thrift stores but I have seen them at an up-scale thrift for about $6 each. Wish I could have paid less for the Pac-Man glass but it is in perfect shape so I thought it was worth $5. It has been quite a few years ago that I found a box of 2600 fairly common games for $4. At that time I had very few games so I was stoked!

  8. I just got SN 32570F, Sunnyvale, CA Heavy Sixer.

It came with one joystick with an Atari logo on the end of it and also paddles with the Atari logo instead of the word paddles. Also it had a grey power plug that said it was made in Los Gatos, CA. :lust:post-7503-1166834545_thumb.jpg

  9. I just got a Heavy Sixer that came with assorted joysticks - and there are some really different ones. I searched the threads here a little and decided to post after not finding one of them anywhere. One of them has the Atari logo on the end of the stick. Sure wish it worked! There is also one that has a little metal switch on the plug-side that turns the fire button on and off. In one position you can't fire. That experiment got me killed!

Also there are paddles that have the Atari logo in place of the word paddle. I was wondering if anyone else has one of the sticks with the metal switch that disengages the fire button? Or do you think someone modified this one themselves? It looks to me like it came that way. There were also some old joysticks that are the springy-kind with no TOP in the ring. One does not work at all and the other one won't let you go left. Not good for playing Galaxian!!! :lolblue: post-7503-1166831298_thumb.jpg

  10. I'll be flamed for this but Pitfall is annoying to me. It's a great game but it's also frustrating for me. So is Asteroids - especially when you get killed and reappear right in the path of an asteroid and get killed right away again. OH and Time Pilot's controls are so terrible that I get angry playing it.

  11. I dropped $134 and my husband retaliated by finding a new handgun he wants.

I just bought a new handgun AND ordered Phanton II/Pirate from the AA Store :D Cake and eat it too!

    WP

I also have assault rifles in the store if anyone needs them. ;)

    ..Al

You yanks have all the fun!

Yank? Maybe I'm not down with the new lingo...but I'm a Southern Girl! ;) I thought *we* had all the fun! :lolblue: :lolblue: :lolblue:

  12. I only collect and play the 2600 system because it was the system that was available when I started playing video games and I got one for Christmas. I still have the same console I got as a gift and now I have 5 more. YIKES they are like rabbits. :D

I don't consider myself a "gamer" per se. The only other analogy that I can think of is this: I have no interest in an iPOD. I have a perfectly good radio, a decent CD collection and some vinyl. Life is GOOD.

  13. True. When I talk Atari, people are very surprised..."I used to have one..." "If they still made games for Atari I would play..." I do tell people *tirelessly* about the new games that I have but in return I get invited to play Guitar Hero II. :ponder: I have seen some homebrews on ebay recently and they do go for decent money. The red/blue version of Fall Down is on there from someone that claims to have only played it a few times. For the number of consoles going hourly on ebay there should be a much larger market for homebrews. I'll keep talking!!!!
