  1. I'm another nerd who visits these titles regularly. The MD Mini 2 seems to offer both the NA and JP/EUR roms rather than just the soundtracks. When selecting the US option the title screen has a little 'TM' mark next to the copyright, this is absent on the JP/EUR. Fun fact, this appears to be the very forst time that the MCD versions have been ported. As far as I know the other versions are either ports of the PC game or the Christian Whitehead remakes.
  2. Who knows.. Sega is a business and it's unlikely they would be going for loss making products so presumably they have done their sums. I have no data regarding Atari Flashback sales to hand but there was what, 10 of them plus handhelds? There must have been demand / sales of that. I too would be interested to know if any new-to-the-scene fans pics this up. Sonic's popularity has increased so (potentially) that means more sales of Origins / Frontiers.. I can't speak for all of course but if I like a game or get interested in a franchise I immediately look up what else said developer / publisher did. It wouldn't be unrealistic for someone to enjoy something like Sonic Origins off the back of the movie and then discover a love for Golden Axe, Streets of Rage etc and *eventually* that path to lead to the mini2. That is afterall basically how I came to love Atari. I have plenty of original Atari stuff now but it all started off the back of one compilation (Atari Anthology) and I got that off the back of simply researching the beginings of some of the developers / publishers I got interested in at the time.
  3. I skipped the Mini 1 so decided to grab the Mini 2. I got the Micro Game Gear set back in the summer too. I think like you say the target audience is of course collectors but I imagine Sega in general has seen a whole plethora of new fans get interested in the 16bit scene off the back of the 2nd Sonic Movie's success. The idea of having a mini replica console that just plugs into the modern TV, takes up very little space and gives a near authentic experience is probably a tantalising prospect for some vs grabbing a load of old hardware, spending a fortune on games and reading up on what leads are needed etc - most would find it off putting.
  4. I pretty much agree with this, Acorn had vastly more success with their BBC line in the sense that they were in every classroom and every school, the Archies and beyond.. no, maybe the odd one like we had an A300 tucked away in the music room but they were not mainstream like the former. Acorn had very flawed management and visions and that has been since confirmed by plenty of previous employees in forums over the years often describing Acorn as "schizophrenic" to work for but long term I don't think they ever could have competed against the tech giants of today, a big part would be finances but a big part was their own lack of will power to even try, at most they would have been bought out. You are correct though about ARM. Without ARM the world would be very different and yet the average person in the street doesn't know what ARM is and certainly wouldn't know it came out of a quirky company in Cambridge. They probably assume it was made by Elon Musk or someone 🤣
  5. Your comment reminded me about when I watched this video, it discusses at length in great depth about how Tetris got out of Russia and into the world and if anyone has a spare hour and has not seen it, I highly recommend it. It's full of interesting info on Atari and Nintendo and their liscensing battles. A (probably paraphrased) quote from this that I remember is: "Package the Gameboy with Mario and you can sell it to little boys. Package it with Tetris and you can sell it to everyone"
  6. I'm in the UK and from memory at least in my neck of the woods, this era a lot of people had the Atari ST home computer but as far as Atari consoles went I don't think much caught on post-2600 here. Late 80s / early 90s The C64 and Speccys seemed more common but then I guess many had moved well away from the 2600 even at that point with Nintendo and Sega. Gameboy was certainly the popular handheld, I only recall two people owing a Game Gear. Ah.. what you describe about waiting on games was like me growing up on RiscOS Archimedes. Amiga and ST owners seemed to have so much fun with an abundance of cool games the Archie could easily run but we had to either wait about five years for it to be ported or just ogle reviews in magazines and imagine what could have been if it had 🤣
  7. Here is a question that I would like to hear answers from any collectors - or indeed anyone. Might be a bit of fun.. So, for a laugh I went through my EVERYTHING and listed all my games I own with the view to creating a spreadsheet so I know what I have already and can add to it. I wasn't aware I have a bunch of duplicates that will make some nice eBay fodder! I have not done consoles yet or dedicated systems etc. When I spoke to my uncle (an avid comic book collector since the 60's) I learnt that whilst he knows roughly what he has, he actually doesn't do this or have any record of it (?) He has literally thousands of comics floor to ceiling! So.. does anyone else keep track of things and to what extent. I have counted all games that are original physical copies only, I have left off CDRs (less that 10 anyway) but I have included digital purchases - which whilst legit feel less authentic to the CDRs in some respects as they have no physical presence🤣 Obvs I have not included flash carts etc. Just curious what you all do?
  8. Lynx is a console I didn't have back in the day and honestly I am struggling to remember anyone that did so perhaps the points about battery life and cost were a huge reason for this. My only experience of Lynx software are the two collections for the Evercade and whilst this probably isn't an accurate representation of it's very best, from what I have seen and played I quite like and think that graphically it probably was the most impressive looking vs the likes of the game gear etc.
  9. Purchased this afternoon, single player is fun but as with the other recharged entries, the challenge mode and two player couch co-op is where this really shines. Me and my eldest (9) have played this all evening together. I was relieved that we were not 'tethered' like in Gravitar as whilst I understand why they did it, it made it a little less accessible as you largley needed to be on the same skill level to remain in one piece.
  10. Cardboard Castle starring Bradley Bare! Final Jewel Bonus.
  11. This arrived today. I don't own an Intellivision. I have never seen one in the flesh or known anyone that has / had one. Grabbed this though as it was very cheap and seemingly scarce on UK eBay. Described as 'cart only' but came with tray and the two inserts, bit weird they kept all that but not the actual box but hey, Burgertime is cool.
  12. I highly recommend the Data East carts, they are easily my favorite collections so far. If you are into Burger time, be sure to check out the 2019 remake that I only learnt about a couple of weeks ago, its fantastic!
  13. Or more specifically they have forgotten everythong that isn't Megadrive / Genesis. Just the same old games again and again and again..
  14. I quite recently got an Evercade with a decent chunk of games and have been enjoying this. Something struck me the other day though.. why oh why has Sega not released something for it? No, I am not talking Sonic 1, 2, Comix Zone, Dynamite Headdy and the usual fodder. They have a STACK of amazing Arcade stuff that has just faded into obscurity. Surely the Evercade would be an ideal opportunity to release this on. Does anyone know if Blaze ever tried with Sega and what the results were?
  15. Hope this comes to Switch.. as far as I can tell only VCS and Steam are confirmed but if it's available for Switch then I am in 100%!
  16. Hey lets spin this on its head.. so, if we have teens and young adults into the 2600 then do we have anyone in their 80's and beyond who are into all the latest gaming like VR etc? I can't think of anyone I know personally but I would be curious if say someones nan is a keen gamer on MMO's etc..
  17. I have only read that replacement music was speculated rather than confirmed. If they just had to change the music then why not do it ten years prior? Whilst we can be sure there is an issue with the music I don't think it is the issue that most people think it is. We know from at least one composer that "Sega owe a lot of people a lot of money" but I also think it has to do with who has been credited for what. Note that Origins is S3&K not the stand alones and this format alone conveniently removes and replaces several tracks, will the others remain? Will see..
  18. Reminds me of the casing on both my Megadrive and also my VHS player: "High Definition Graphics - Stereo Sound" Hmmm..
  19. Haha.. there will certainly be a demographic difference, my sibling eas born in 94 and she will remember the VHS vaguley since we still used it but I kid you not back in around 2016 I took a 5.25 floppy disc and a audio cassette into work because some 25yr old guy worked with had never seen or heard of them until I mentioned them and wanted me to bring them in so he could see them "for real" - the look on his face, like he was marveling at them like they were some ancient artifact! ?? The convo came about as I was saying pre-modern tech I used to record the Sunday night charts on casette so I had something to listen to on the way home from work! 25yr old: "what's walkman?"
  20. I turn 40 this year and apparently that makes me a millenial as I was born after '81 ? it's always puzzled me that one as 90's born kids seem pretty different to us lot, like they are a generation behind LOL, they don't remember VHS or pre internet days for example! Anyway, I think anyone that is interested in gaming can like the 2600. I was a Sega kid and only actually got into the 2600 about five years ago - now I have tons of 2600 stuff! I think theres a lot of stereotyping about interests in general. Like your age should only be playing the very latest games or anyone who has a Switch only plays Mario. Its all pretty daft.. it's like music, you can have a favorite era / eras without having to have lived through them.

  22. "Streets of Rage Special Edition" - yet it missing the second game ? Certainly must be scarce then as couldn't find any more on ebay but then over ten years old now I suppose.
  23. It does? There is no packaging with it I know that much but perhaps when it is here I might be able to see from labels etc. Ill upload some more pics when I have it. Ill try and look up Japanese / Asian release then and see if I can find more.
  24. Thanks for this, I have had a good search but can't seem to find any of the firecore systems. The one I found (and have on its way) I can't find anything on, the ten included games are curious too, not just because the others have at least 15, 30 or 80 that I can see but no mainline Sonics, no Alex Kidd.. its a strange selection.
