1. This situation has left me completely incredulous. Shipping to Argentina takes a long time even when we aren’t in a global pandemic.

yet, he asked me for a refund just three weeks after it shipped. That’s barely enough time for a refund on a domestic package. It’s been about 4 weeks now, still shy of the 6 weeks I told him it might take.

I emailed him saying all of this and that patience would be appreciated. Before I refund on a shipment to a country where shipping takes a long time.

Clearly I did my part here. I shipped his Harmony. The only thing to do is wait for it to arrive. Yes, it may never arrive but it is far, far, FAR too soon to be sure, so I’m not issuing a refund just yet.

I think it goes without saying that because of this experience I am suspending future orders to  Argentina.

Hi Batari, please don’t suspend deliveries to South America. I got my harmony cart last year without any problems , delivered to southern Chile. It just took three months., but you have to be patient. I received an atari 7800 from USA in 4 weeks and an atari st from germany also in 4 weeks. I have never lost or had a package damaged in many years. I think this guy From Argentina just lacks experience and hasn’t time to read the posts on Atariage.
I love the harmony cart but maybe needing an upgrade to play most homebrews

2. There are ways to modify the sleeve that aren't easily seen or noticed. And there is also a way to allow for tigervision carts to fit as well that doesn't require clipping the pegs.

Just FYI...

Thanks. Will research about it.

3. Imagic cart shells rarely fit the 7800 cart tunnel properly. It’s a common problem. Some late red label Atari carts have similar issues. Some people use a Dremel or similar tool to cut notches in the corners of the cartridge tunnel in order to allow a better fit. As for opening 2600 carts with a dust cover flap, you can use a small flat blade screwdriver inserted into the notch to release the cover and expose the PCB edge contacts for cleaning.

Thank you very much for the tips!!

4. Ok, as of now I confirm that after cleaning all my 7800 carts are working including Xevious.

Thank you all, it checks well the theory that if the 7800 cannot obtain the checksum because of dirty connector it turns of.

I also have some 2600 carts that wont fit well : imagic Demon Attack or have the connectors bended like Starblast, starmaster, Bugs. Is there a way to open the carts and fix them?

Thanks

5. There would not be many good reasons for PAL carts to turn up in the US. The most obvious "transfer mode" might be US military staff bringing them back from Europe in the 80s.

Yes, I think so too. Hope cleaning the carts solves the problem

6. Have you tried cleaning the game cartridge contacts with isopropyl alcohol?

Mitch

No I havent Mitch. Thanks for the tip. Will try and then post an update.

7. It really sounds to me like he is trying to use PAL carts in an NTSC system and only his Asteroids cart is actually NTSC. The black screen condition is happening because the carts are failing the encryption key check either because they are actually PAL versions of the games, or because as Mitch stated, the games or the cartridge slot is dirty and not making good contact causing the encryption checksum to fail.

2600 games do not require the encryption check since the 7800 itself turns into 2600 mode when using a 2600 game and acts the same as any other 2600 would at that point so PAL and NTSC 2600 games will still load up and work on NTSC 7800s minus graphical issues or CRT/Displays not liking the PAL signal, but they will try and load.

Thank you for looking into it.
I also have thought about the ntsc/ pal issue. But there is no way to prove it.
I bought the 7800 on ebay from the US, so I think its NTSC. And it came with Choplifter (doesnt work). Then I bought xevious from ebay from US (doesnt work). Then a lot of carts forom ebay also US including asteroids (works). I have not tried the others from the lot yet. But if all came from the US they should be ntsc.
Next is to clean the carts. How should I do that?
Any other things I may be missing to get xevious to work?
Regards
Juan

When you say it plays Asteroids do you mean it plays the Asteroids cart okay or does it come up with Asteroids automatically?

Sorry I didn’t make it clear. I meant that I inserted the asteroids cart and it plays ok. As far as  I know the ntsc 7800 didn’t come with any internal games. It’s a av mod 7800 and if I insert Choplifter, it also shows the atari logo and then the image goed to black even though the power led is on

9. Hi all. I’m a new member

My atari 7800 ntsc shows the atari logo when I insert a xevious cartrigde and then turns off. I asume its a ntsc cartrigde because I bought it in the US

What could be the issue?
It plays asteroids 7800 ok and 2600 games ok. But the same happens with choplifter.
