Any interest in web-based bB/2600 asm IDE?
Fort Apocalypse replied to Fort Apocalypse's topic in batari Basic
Hmm. Looks like wouldn't be possible to call bB via Runtime.exec or JNI: http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/i.../detail?id=1513 http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/overview.html Would be nice to have a Java version of the bB compiler, but I guess I'd just aim for a web-based asm compiler in the beginning. -
This is a project I've been wanting to do for a while, and am now thinking- what the heck. I'm thinking of writing a web-based IDE that could be used to compile either bB or 6502 asm code and then use JStella to emulate the 2600 game. It might be *extremely* no-frills in the beginning, may never make it to the level of sophistication of Visual bB or other editors, and maybe I won't have time to be able to do any of it at all, but I like the idea of being able to just develop bB/asm games anywhere without having to worry about setup. The thought was to either do it in Java or perhaps JRuby using Google App Engine. I think I've seen some Java based 6502 asm compilers and maybe with JNI or more likely just exec I could call the bB compiler. Let me know what you think.

Suggestions for fixing old (386) laptop screen?
Fort Apocalypse replied to Fort Apocalypse's topic in Hardware
Ultra 386SX-20. The battery pack on it died long ago, but the DC power supply works fine (still does) as does the floppy drive (the CMOS/whatever settings don't hold so I don't use the hard drive). Started letting the kids use it years back and we were just hooking it to the wall. About a year or so ago the screen stopped working (but like I said, if you hold it from an extreme angle you can just barely make out what should be displayed- black on black. It used to be white on black if you looked at it straight-on and would kind-of alternate white on black to black on white holding it from different angles. Don't feel like you have to provide any parts. I was just curious whether there was something I could take apart and perhaps check a connection for or replace something that was low-cost. Thanks! -
Suggestions for fixing old (386) laptop screen?
Fort Apocalypse replied to Fort Apocalypse's topic in Hardware
It is the kind where (when it worked) if you looked at it from some angle other than straight on it would look black on white instead of white on black. Was that backlit? If I could fix it easily and cheaply, I'd definitely do it. Is there a good place to by new replacement parts (generic) that might work in old laptops? -
Have any suggestions for fixing an old (386) laptop screen or could tell me what's wrong with it? It is a black and white screen and if you look at it from a really heavy angle you can see what is supposed to be on the screen but from straight-on it is black. If you press on the screen you can sometimes see text/etc under it.

The batari Basic Music and Sound Page
Fort Apocalypse replied to Random Terrain's topic in batari Basic
That page is sweet like candy. Thanks, RT! If you have any interest in a page that could show the x/y delta decimal value multiplier for 16 directions in bB, here is something I came up with a little while back. It isn't rocket science, but it might be handy to have deep in some reference page somewhere for bB. I used this in Ultimate Indy 500 (a.k.a. my primary bB embarassment/a.k.a. they said it couldn't be done/a.k.a. one of the most disappointing games I failed to finish). Direction x delta y delta 1 0 -1 2 0.38 -0.92 3 0.71 -0.71 4 0.92 -0.38 5 1 0 6 0.92 0.38 7 0.71 0.71 8 0.38 0.92 9 0 1 10 -0.38 0.92 11 -0.71 0.71 12 -0.92 0.38 13 -1 0 14 -0.92 -0.38 15 -0.71 -0.71 16 -0.38 -0.92 This is now also on my crappy site. -
I got a PM from Curt. If you think you PM'd him, check again in your sent folder to see whether it really got sent (that's not an AA issue, but I think when PM mailbox gets full you might not notice it after the send that the send didn't work). I think his PM is full right now (or was when I tried to reply to say thanks, because he said he was working on getting it out). Getting excited! Will definitely post when I get them.

Their page currently says: So no I wouldn't send an order receipt yet. He only asked for those who ordered in October 2008 to send them.

Hey, I just moved my site from geocities and was looking for any Atari 2600 developer webrings, good index places to register the site, etc. to get it out there. I don't know how much it helps, but I don't think anyone found my old site, so I figured I'd at least put in a little effort. Any ideas? My site's at: http://fortapocalypse.synthasite.com/ I found a Atari console developers' webring: http://www.webring.com/t/Atari-Console-Developers?sid=19 but other than that, haven't found much. I also submitted it to Yahoo's directory. I don't have time to create a sitemap or I'd submit that to Google. I know eventually Google will crawl it.

Some of the October orders are not out yet. (I ordered on Oct 15.) I know they'll come eventually though. I know that the site said that some/all Nov orders were close to shipment. Can't wait!

I had to move my old geocities site ( http://www.geocities.com/fortapocalypse/ ) to yola since geocities is being taken down. I like yola (formerly synthasite) a good bit after having worked with it a little. Some of their tools don't always work right (the save hung a few times in the last few days - maybe was under high load?). But, after you figure out that all of the webpages you create are in the local directory but all file manager stuff goes under resources dir, everything works fine. I would use Google Sites, but I needed custom HTML for the applet (JStella) stuff. The yola site is http://www.yola.com/ My site lets you download and/or play Atari 2600 homebrew games I wrote during 2007-2008 as well as providing some info about each game. I haven't finished it yet, but it is about 80% there. What do you all think? Sorry if it is kind of messy. * http://fortapocalypse.synthasite.com/

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I wanted to correct the level descriptions and provide a label: * Level 1 - can shoot target in head or body. * Level 2 - can only shoot target in head. * Level 3 - only have one bullet to shoot each target. can only shoot target in head. * Level 4 - wind: fight the elements - try to steady your hand. can only shoot target in head. * Level 5 - hand is unsteady due to heartbeat. can only shoot target in head. * Level 6 - wind. heartbeat. can only shoot target in head. * Level 7 - wind. heartbeat. only have one bullet to shoot each target. can only shoot target in head.

How to sell your old games-1983 style

Am calling a "please stop" to anyone responding to "flamers" on this or related topics or any acknowledgement that they have posted at all. They can complain all they like here or anywhere else and it won't make a bit of difference. And if they don't stop, who gives a s**t. Consider the hand raised to them, the palm out, and the head turned.

Tell them to stop by my house too, please.
