  1. Yeah, video games are big right now... and movies kinda suck this time around (whereas they were also big in the 70s).

I liked Ghostbusters the movie(s). The Atari game though- just took way too long to get out. It would have been cool 5 years ago, but even then, it wouldn't have held a candle to Quake 4. Most new PC/console games that sell seem to be smart, innovative, or involve behavior that is really not socially acceptable. Ghostbusters game doesn't meet any of those criteria. BTW, I know you know it, but Ghostbusters was made in the 80s. ;) Hats off to Atari for getting it out, but they won't make much money off of it these days.

  2. I'm not trying to be neggy about the whole new Atari situation, but i get the feeling that Atari are making a big boo boo by putting all there eggs in one basket and hedging everything on online content/gaming...after all you don't hear of EA, Activision etal ditching traditional retail product in favour of 100 p/c exclusive online content/gaming...or are you saying that Atari have a crystal ball and can forsee the future of where gaming is going (assuming that infogrammes has the lolly and interest in keeping Atari alive/afloat)

I'm guessing Atari is just too scared to take any risk with money right now.

But when the economy sucked in the 70s, new consoles thrived, so I think they are losing out, especially since they can't really make much headway on the gaming scene. (I saw Ghostbusters- not impressed, I'm afraid.)

  3. Is it even worth posting something to get $5?

When you want to give something that is used away that you are advertising online (and don't want to give it to a charity), it is much easier to get rid of it by setting a very cheap price on it rather than giving it away for free. The same trick is used at yard sales also. People equate free used things with unusable junk, whereas a very cheap item indicates that the item has some value (possibly much more than the sales price).

  4. This may have been shared long ago (Atari Insider by Jeff Morin, plus notes from Thomas Clancy, plus notes from Harry Dodgson, plus notes from Sean Kelly), but it was new to me and I didn't find it in my search of AtariAge. I just happened upon it when searching for something.

The doc describes how to do an A/V mod (either composite/audio or chroma/luma/audio) on Atari 2600 (Sears Tele-games/Sears Video Arcade), Atari 2600 Jr., (Atari 2800/)Sears Video Arcade II, and Atari 7800.

  5. Hi, I recently bought a FLashback 2 and set it up, but there is a key icon on the screen and I can't seem to get past it. Is there some kind of code i need. I looked in the online manual, but didn't find anything.

You may be playing Adventure. :) If so, turn it off and on again.

In the menu, use the player 1 joystick to move the menu selection and button to select the game. If that doesn't work, make sure the joysticks are plugged in fully.

  6. Sega has come out with a neo-retro mock 8-bit title for the Wii (WiiWare) called Pole's Big Adventure that is a satire of 8-bit games (which finally answers the questions: "What if Mario had a gun?" and "Can Mario eat so many mushrooms that he gets bigger than the screen?", although it is Pole, not Mario).

  7. No updates in that thread. Its unfortunate that we have no updates for a while. I understand he has health issues, but it would also seem there is a huge chunk of money sent out for items not yet received. Some kind of info would be great....

There was an update in one of the threads. Basically Curt just had heart surgery and is recovering. In a week or two (we hope and pray he gets well that quickly) he said he would work on getting the joysticks out to everyone as soon as he got home. I'm not speaking for anyone, but best case scenario, I'm guessing shipments should arrive in February- but I don't know. At this point, we're just hoping that Curt does well. He has done a lot for our community and is a friend to many here at AA.

Here’s the first known photo of an Apple computer running Windows 1.0 software. Yes, Mr. Bootcamp, Windows on Apple in 1983. It wasn’t a Macintosh, but an Apple II with a monochrome screen and PC emulator hardware installed. The board was called the 88 Card, “the only fully functional 8088 processor for the Apple II personcal computer” and it had the stunning list price of $899. But don’t fret, because this also included 64K of additional RAM and CP/M 86—if you wanted DOS and Windows you had to buy them separately.
