  2. Now I just have to remember where that Easter egg is lol. I recall what zone of the map it is in but not quite the exact spot.
  3. I beat Alien Brigade yesterday for the first time with exactly 0 ammo left. I focused on grabbing as much ammo and extra health as I could in the cave level instead of worrying about shooting the close enemies which I think made the difference from my previous failed attempts.
  4. Al, will copies of Popeye built for the last chance sale use one of the newer versions of the rom compared to the earlier cartridge copies similar to what you are doing with Moon Cresta?
  5. Not much for me this week Atari 2600: Dragon’s Descent 15 Atari 7800: Galaxian 15 Astro Fighter 10 Tunnels of Hyperion 5 Ikari Warriors 5
  6. Not super recent as I did this last year, but I got an rca studio ii for $80 listed as tested but with no sound. When I got it I quickly realized the shell had been assembled slightly wrong at the factory as it was bulging around one of the “teeth” that aligns it but still had its original warranty sticker over one of the screw holes. I poked through the warranty sticker (oh no I can’t return it to rca now!) and dusted it out inside even though it looked pretty pristine, great buttons and good looking ribbon cables to the controls. Put it back together and voila, the little annoying speaker works just fine. Because of the way the case was assembled it had been physically pinched in place so it couldn’t make noise. Now unfortunately I have to hear that damn speaker when I play the console Sounds like a demonic air horn.
  7. All 7800 as usual for me Atari 7800: Scramble 45 Kung Fu Master 30 Dragon’s Havoc 30 Pac Man Collection 5 KC Munchkin 5 Galaga 15 Galaxian 10 Ikari Warriors 10 I beat/cycled Kung Fu Master for the first time this week and beat/cycled Scramble once again. Got further than ever in Ikari Warriors too.
  8. Here’s mine Atari 7800: Scramble-35 Ms. Pac-Man-15 Kung Fu Master-30 Baby Pac-Man-10 Ikari Warriors-10 Astro Fighter-10 Mario Bros-10 Donkey Kong-5
  9. I have never beaten level 3 of kung fu master and it looks like that might be the hardest level lol. I find it easier to play with a proline, I accidentally jump a lot when using the gamepad controller.
  10. I actually really like Dark Chambers and don’t get the hate it sometimes gets…then again I find Diablo 1 fun even when you are trying to corner succubi in hell as a warrior as they endlessly run away from you and I feel Dark Chambers has that same kind of janky slowish dungeon crawler vibe that doesn’t really feel “arcadelike” like Gauntlet all that much. A sequel with different classes/weapons would be really cool but it already sort of exists in the form of Wizards Dungeon which is another game I feel doesn’t get all that much attention. If Atari had released games during the 1991-1992 period before the 7800 was officially discontinued it would have been cool to see a 1 on 1 fighter/golf game Ninja Golf sequel lol.
  11. Finally played some games this week for the first time in awhile. Life has been tough for me lately so it was really nice to get in some gameplay, if only a little bit. Atari 7800: Scramble-10 Dragon's Havoc-25 Tunnels of Hyperion-5
  12. Sick! Gotta check this out tonight after the Orioles finish killing the Mets.
  13. Nice job! The second to last level of ninja golf is rough with all the water. I actually think the last level isn’t that bad since rough and woods are not that terrible to deal with as long as you keep moving. I will admit to never beating the last dragon mostly because I reached him with very little life left because of an unfortunate hang up on a shark just before reaching the island at the end.
  14. I think option B is very similar to how pacmanplus did his 7800 arcade ports and those all work and look great.
  15. Yeah, actually when you think about how many crystals and health potions there are it is fine. My issue is more with blood contamination I guess and how you get the mystic heart at the very end of the game pretty much. I mean after you have killed the first 2 bosses and cleared the cave for the super blaster all you need to do really is make your way to doctor evil or pick up any crystals you missed for more max health.
  16. I have gotten to Dr. Evil 5 times on Midnight Mutants, I can reliably beat the whole game without much trouble getting to him but I just run out of health killing him every time. I have come very close to killing him but have never quite managed it. Going to watch your playthrough in a bit to see if there is some secret tech I don’t know to take him down. Overall I quite like midnight mutants, I just wish there were more potions throughout the game so you wouldn’t have to play so dang cautiously. The caves are nerve wracking every time because of how much damage everything in there does and a lot of the gameplay there and elsewhere ends up being hiding at the edge of the screen spamming shots at a strange angle hoping the ai bumbles around instead of just rushing you.
  17. Will Tunnels of Hyperion be getting a release at PGRE? I remember seeing it listed on the coming soon section of the AA flyer that came with the recent releases.
  18. Love this game and I’ve had it for awhile. Had an odd thing happen this evening when I played with it with my brother. Popped it in my system, powered on, Atari logo showed up…and then, just a strange rolling garbled bit of something on the left side of the screen. Checked my cartridge slot was clean. Made sure another pokey/hokey game (commando) was working and it was. Put the cart back in. I ended up getting the same thing for a couple power cycles until I leave it on for maybe 20 seconds and then power cycle the system. Game starts fine and seemed to play perfectly fine with no audio or video glitches. I assume something was happening that was causing the ntsc/pal auto detect to fail. I have an ntsc 7800 from I think 1986 or so from what I recall when I posted my serial number here awhile ago. Now that I think of it, I think this is the first time I have ever tried to start the game “cold” as the first game I play in a session on my 7800. I think every other time I have played it has been after playing at least one other game.
  19. Sweet! I thought it might be a header flag issue because the game just wouldn’t start at all rather than launch and then hang up. Edit- It is one of my favorites out of the games you have ported over the years alongside Scramble because it reminds me of the mechanically very similar much-maligned Waterworld game for Virtual Boy which is actually my favorite Virtual boy game since I feel it is one of the only games that really leverages the aesthetics of that strange system to create a unique atmosphere. Plus I just love pick up and play arcade style games.
  20. The Rip-off rom doesn’t seem to play on my concerto. That is the only one not working. Anyone else having this issue?
  21. Yeah they mostly made games for Spectrum, C64, and Atari 8 bit. They were one of those European companies that continued to release games on the Atari 8bits during the late 80s when new releases had pretty much ceased in the US. From what I understand they were working on (or had just finished?) Sirius and Plutos as a kind of outgrowth of what they were doing on A8 when they closed up shop in 1990. I have read elsewhere though that the games were cancelled when Atari pulled the plug on the 7809 but I think that series of events is off since the 7800 wasn’t formally discontinued until 1992 which is after Tynesoft ceased operations from what I have seen.
  22. I got to the dragon of glory the other week and called it quits for the day after dying a bunch. Haven’t had a chance to play real recently unfortunately because my fiancé is in the hospital and I have been caring for our baby while she gets better. She gets discharged Monday so hopefully I will be able to give it another try soon. I think the trickiest thing about Dragon’s Havoc for me strategically speaking was learning when to move in really close and take advantage of turbo vs when to hang back and fire single shots. Luckily I have been playing some shmups on the nes recently that have short range power ups with high damage as well as a little Radiant Silvergun on my brother’s Saturn that he got the other month which helped me make the adjustment. Just as a comment to the OP, Sirius on the 7800 has some pretty crazy firepower and even density of enemies on screen at once some times. Of course it also has no music, ending, etc. but then again it may be in a slightly unfinished state. I don’t think anyone in the modern 7800 scene has ever talked to anyone who worked at Tynesoft bitd about whether Sirius and Plutos were done and just never released or if they were not quite complete. Atariprotos seems agnostic on the question from what I recall. (For what it worth my personal feeling is that they are at most missing a still image end screen and maybe menu music, the audio uses both Tia tracks during gameplay I think so I don’t think they had music planned in game and given the way your score keeps incrementing if you loop either game and Tynesoft’s experience in the euro computer game market, I would not be surprised if there was no end screen and the games were meant to just loop like they do. Commando does the same thing on 7800 albeit with a “Your every duty complete” screen.)
  23. Interesting. This was more recent than when I last looked into this around 2010…damn that makes me feel old. That is actually kind of akin to the KC munchkin ruling actually but goes against the rulings based on non-videogame games.
