Is there any way to make two joysticks behave properly on a Y-adapter for a PC gameport? I just got two Kraft analog sticks in the mail from eBay and neither of them seem to work properly on a Y-cable. Individually both work just fine.

Plug and Play 99 Game System
NightSprinter replied to classicgamingguy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's a shame with what people are doing these days. It's almost as if making a legitimate product is becoming more and more of a forbidden practice. I mean hell, I can't even go to a flea market without worrying about bootleg stuff. Thankfully I just go to "Game Trader" over at FleaWorld and just buy some actual games there, talk to my friend Abe over at FunWorld for a few minutes, then go home. Oh, and Jimmy, for your daughter please be careful not to get her anything other than those necklaces. If she's into the card game be VERY cautious about some of those people trying to push the bootleg cards. The Florida Mall down here in Orlando had a kiosk that sold bootleg copies of some highly sought-after cards (and WILLINGLY did so.. some of 'em were just that damn obvious). Yeah, I do judge for the game at the local hobby stores now and then, but something like trading card games actually anger me the most on this whole bootleg crap. Takin' advantage of little kids who want what they think is "good" and pay exhorbirant prices only to find out it was a fake.. Anyway.. *clears throat* ahem.. yeah this permeance of bootleg hardware into the well-known mainstream department stores is becoming a tad frightening now.. -
Interesting Arcade Game In Movie Sighting
NightSprinter replied to Tempest's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Can't be as bizarre as say.. the original TRON arcade game in the opening FMV to the game "TRON 2.0", or seeing a kid play an Unreal Tournament-style FPS with a wireless joystick but the game system used is an Atari2600 "Vader" unit in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". That last one.. I sorta stared at the TV for a few moments.. -
I have it, sadly there is a large scratch going straight down the CD's read surface that causes the computer to lag and/or hang sometimes. Someone at GameStop (I purchased it two months ago back in GA during Hurricane Wilma) said I could take it to this one place for professional restoration, and I also have the option of putting $15 towards having Midway send me a new CD. So until I can get the problem fixed I can't exactly comment on how Joust plays. :/

FS Ikari Warriors, BMX & MotoRodeo SEALED
NightSprinter replied to mabb96's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Yeah, it seems the amount of the NTSC versions are slowly dying down now. The latest auctions I've seen for the NTSC versions that target North America were from claudiacollectibles (which I got two sealed-in-box Ikari Warriors and one sealed Motorodeo from), and from some other guy. I did, however, find an auction where this person had a box of six sealed Motorodeo carts. So.. now that we seem to have discovered what seems to actualy be THE last remaining copies in existence, what would one say their final rarity and collector values are? -
T_C, if you mean the garbled graphics it might be a bad ROM dump of the cartridge, or a current problem with the emulator that was used.

I would have to say Kung-Fu Master. Activision (or whoever released the 7800 version) could've done so much more with that port. I mean even including a POKEY chip to help with the sounds (doubt it could do any synthesized voice, though) would give it an even bigger advantage. I'm just upset how that version didn't make full use of the 7800 controls, or fixed the problems from the 2600 version (i.e. no jump-kicks or jump-punches.. the former being a MUST for the 3F boss).

New gameroom shelves (huge pic)
NightSprinter replied to Sylentwulf's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have to say that's a hell of a nice-looking setup. However.. *Stewie Griffin voice* I will trump that collection of yours someday You will fear at how much larger it shall become! Go on! Start fearing now! */Stewie Griffin voice* I had to do it.. but who knows? Maybe I might actually HAVE a larger room than that someday. -
Thinking of buying an Amiga 500, should I?
NightSprinter replied to bedouin's topic in Commodore Amiga
I'll chime in again with my A500 picks: R-Type (though you really ned a 2-button stick for the pod unit in the game) DynaBlaster (BomberMan to those of us outside of Europe, like me, but you need to build a 4-player adapter) Gauntlet II (ditto here on the 4-player part) Ghosts 'n Goblins (just a fantastic port..) Turrican Series Lemmings Lemmings 2: The Tribes Pang I'll edit this post as I think up of more stuff. -
Kinda like mine's older'n I am, and I'm 24.

NightSprinter replied to mabb96's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Man, I know how ya feel on that one TunnelRunner. To think I didn't even drop $150 a pop on my two copies of Ikari Warriors and single copy of Motorodeo. I was thinking about re-selling what I get back on eBay so I can re-build my little financial nest-egg for college, but I'm going to wait until these same exact copies that keep popping up from different people who buy from each other stop showing up. [multi-edit] Ok.. I need to learn how to catch my typos and not screw up the quote function so much.. -
1) How old are you? 24 2) What sex are you? A guy (male, however ya wanna say it) 3) When did you get an Atari? Before birth, since it originally belonged to my older brother 4) When did you become involved with the Atari? (i.e. you wanted to play this over newer systems at the time or today) 2600, a.k.a. the "Video Computer System" 5) Why the 2600? What does it offer to YOU that other systems, whether old or new, don't? The kind of simplicity and fun that something so simple can provide, not to mention that for game programmers the 2600 is far more dififcult to program a good game for according to what I've read. 6) What drink keeps you going? (in case you spend long hours on the 2600). Sometimes Coca-Cola, but mostly Mt. Dew "AMP" or "MDX" (former an energy drink, the other an energy SODA) 7) How many hours a day or at a time do you play the Atari? usually about 3 hours a day during school. Gotta stay focued on homework, ya know? How many days a week do you spend on it? There's a day I don't spend on the Atari? *blink* 9) Your top 3-5 games. WHY these choices? Spider-Man, because it's just so damn challenging. Battlezone, because it's just got that charm to it. Starmaster, because it just rocks as a space game. Asteroids, hunting and lurking.. 'Nuff said. Lastly, Defender for the Atari 800 because of the fact it's a hell of a great marathon game for me. 10) Do you play any other systems besides the 2600? The 8-bit computer line, when I get another one a Commodore 128, the 5200 again when I get some new sticks and a new Trak-Ball, the 7800 (snagged one on eBay), Colecovision, Intellivision, NES, Master System, SNES, Genesis, a little bit of PS1, PS2, GameCube, and PC. 11) How do you view gaming of today as compared to the 70's/80's? What happened to "games are meant to be fun"? Too much of a lack of originality, too much focus on making graphics and sound the focus of the games, and just a general lack of a "fun-factor" in today's games. 12) Do you usually just play the 2600 alone or have someone play with you? (If so, is it a relative or friend?) Usually alone, but I might be able to find someone who'd want to play. Mostly just a friend or two as my relatives all live in another state. 13) Finally, do you or have you ever tried to turn someone to the "Atari side"? More or less, as they also collect old games.

I love the XEGS that I have, but the only problem is that if I want to play Missile Command with the Trak-Ball option I'm left with no choice but to connect the keyboard and hold down the "Select" key on the system when I power it on. Thankfully I'm getting an original MC cartridge so i don't have to deal with that while the keyboard's hooked up. But other than that, for virtually every game, I would have to agree a bit that the 800XL is the system to go with. Plus I've also been reading you can expand it to a grand total of 320KB of RAM. I'm thinking this would help quite a bit with some of the games that are being made now (like the Space Harrier demo, as it seems to require at least 128KB in order to run). Though I can say as a backup you might want to also invest in an A800 as well for the few cartridges that won't run on an XL/XE series computer.

Nukey, do you have joystick support enabled or disabled? The working status of Opcode's demos are SOLELY reliant on how joystick support is implimented. If I disable hardware-joystick support they work fine, but if I enable it in MESS (or use another emulator) the game itself locks up.

What joystick(s) do you use for the 2600?
NightSprinter replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Atari 2600
My preferences: CX-24 Pro-Line Joystick (I haven't experienced fatigue yet) Wico Command Control (Bat-handle, I want to try the "Famous Red-Ball") Beeshu Ultimate SuperStick (got me my 3+ million score in A8 Defender) -
Man, that's a damn shame their gone too. I missed games of theirs like "Vanguard Bandits" and the "Lunar" series. I guess that means soon all the Working Designs games are gonna be worth somethin'. Speaking of "Vanguard Bandits".. *holds onto his copy* MINE!

Not sure that's a myth. I've seen it first hand... A few years back I showed my 4 year old nephew DOA2 on the Dreamcast. Afterwards (and during) gameplay, he was running around the house kicking and punching everyone. Now, I've not shown him the game again, and I doubt any aggression he might currently have (now at age 7) has anything to do with that single moment of playing DOA2. But I promise you that if I so much as mention that game, he'll starting kicking and punching people again. 981961[/snapback] Well.. you DO have to realize this is a little kid, and not the 13-17 year old teenagers that the study is referring to. A lot of kids under the age of 10 (especially if they're 4) don't have an easy time discerning fantasy from reality. I'm no parent, but young kids in this dage of photo-realistic videogames need to be strongly-taught what's the difference between what happens in a game, and what happens in real life.

Street Fighter 2 inspired catch phrases...
NightSprinter replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Actually, the cheese wedge in the Alpha/Zero series now represents someone who managed to get a KO against someone who blocked your last special or super. Even in Alpha 3 when you got a KO against someone who blocked it would flash under the type of finishing move you won with "CHEAP!". Then again.. that's why the "guard-crush" system was made. To punish those who like to block. Speaking of constant blocking, that's where the term "turtling" came from. Just get a few good hits in and block everything they use until "Time Over". -
Never said it was going to be for me. I have a friend who collects Nintendo memoribilia, and if I could snag one for cheap that was going to him as his Christmas present. Problem is, I virtually drained my bank account to acquire two copies of an R9 and one copy of an R10 set of games for the 2600. I should've been more clear on that. Now I'm officially done posting to this topic.

I have an NES of my own (an original toaster that works just fine), thank you. I want this thread locked because of the fact that a harmless post from someone else turned into a flame war between you and someone else. So mods, can we please close the topic? I think it's about time everyone just moved along here.

*waves hand calling for some mods or admins* Can we please get a lock on this topic before the flames spread any further? I'm getting a bit physically nauseous reading the flame war in this thread.

I enjoy timing at some points, so I'll enjoy a good round of "Legend of Dragoon" and "Vagrant Story" (oh I love how VS lets you individually target body parts..). Plus I like the system used in "Radiata Stories". Plus that game's a tad funny to boot.

What arcades still have great classic video games?
NightSprinter replied to 128bytes's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but in the section of the Orlando/Kissimme, FL region I like to call "Touristville" DisneyQuest has a surprisingly-high number of fairly well-maintained classics. The list is as follows: Spy Hunter Tron (2 machines) Pengo Phoenix Asteroids Asteroids Deluxe Missile Command Centipede Millipede (all three are seperate machines) Marble Madness Robotron 2084 Pac-Man (two versions, one doesn't have that little "T" glitch) Ms. Pac-Man (two machines) Super Pac-Man Donkey Kong (2 machines) Donkey Kong Jr. Mario Bros. Donkey Kong/DK Jr./Mario Bros. anniversary Dragon's Lair (though an Ultracade Repro.. boo for showing you what move to make) Galaxian (I think) Galaga Mr. Do! Q*Bert (2 machines) Space Invaders/Qix Anniversary Discs of Tron Front Line Gorf Arkanoid Battlezone Frogger Karate Champ Defender Zaxxon Nearly 40 fairly well-preserved machines (save for one of the standalone DK machines having a monitor that displays colors wrong, but the controls work). The staff immediately go to tend to the machines after hours if something isn't working right (I had trouble moving when I tried to play the TRON games, and Battlezone), and the entire "Replay Zone" area these games are located in (some you actually have to go all the way up to the 5th floor to play). I have to say, for just under $40 to go there as long as you want to play these things.. all on FREE-PLAY no less you can't get a better deal. I'm thinking of just getting an annual pass to that place alone for this. :edit: Oh, forgot to mention there's a hell of a lot of fun interactive stuff too in addition to numerous mini-cafes and a snack bar. And here I thought DisneyWorld didn't have anything to interest me. -
Thank you, J.Max for bringing some common sense into this thread. I do agree, if I want to play the FC catridges (not to mention use the accessories and the DiskSystem) I'll scour eBay for an A/V FamiCom. Other than that I'm keeping the NES and that's it. Just please folks, just let this thread end here. This bickering is startin' to get a little too much for me, y'know?

What does classic gaming mean to you?
NightSprinter replied to Sayton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For me, it means being able to re-live and reminisce about the games I've grown up with and devloped a lot of cherished memories on. It's dusting off that old Atari 2600 or NES after it's sat in the closet for a while and plugging a cartridge of a game I enjoyed so much (like Kirby's Adventure) and playing it where I can enjoy the game just as if it was the first time I played it. It's popping that diskette or cassette into my Atari XE or C128 (man, I wish I had one of those again.. miss my 128..) and getting yourself psyched up for when that game you want to play so much finally loads and you can jump right in. It's going into an arcade and being able to play all your favorite arcade games from the 70s, 80s, and early-to-mid 90s on individual machines when you can (thank you, DisneyQuest) and standing hunched-over for hours on end trying to get an all-time personal high schore. THAT my friends, is what Classic Gaming is to me. I will always be trying to help re-live my gaming memories however I can. To be perfectly honest, even a number of the game compilations for the modern systems (Atari 80 Classic Games in One, Namco Museum, Midway Arcade Treasures) can do a good job of helping to remember games I loved so much, or even discover new games I may never have heard of and find myself liking (I never heard of Rally-X or Phozon before the PSX Namco Museum series, but I really enjoyed them afterwards. Especially Phozon.). Classic Gaming is just nothing more than being able to remember and re-live the memories you cherish on the games you loved in the past. Off-topic: Woo-hoo. 200th post, or somethin'.
