  1. Not sure if it's been mentioned, but in the section of the Orlando/Kissimme, FL region I like to call "Touristville" DisneyQuest has a surprisingly-high number of fairly well-maintained classics. The list is as follows:

    Spy Hunter

    Tron (2 machines)

    Pengo

    Phoenix

    Asteroids

    Asteroids Deluxe

    Missile Command

    Centipede

Millipede (all three are seperate machines)

    Marble Madness

    Robotron 2084

Pac-Man (two versions, one doesn't have that little "T" glitch)

    Ms. Pac-Man (two machines)

    Super Pac-Man

    Donkey Kong (2 machines)

    Donkey Kong Jr.

    Mario Bros.

    Donkey Kong/DK Jr./Mario Bros. anniversary

Dragon's Lair (though an Ultracade Repro.. boo for showing you what move to make)

    Galaxian (I think)

    Galaga

    Mr. Do!

    Q*Bert (2 machines)

    Space Invaders/Qix Anniversary

    Discs of Tron

    Front Line

    Gorf

    Arkanoid

    Battlezone

    Frogger

    Karate Champ

    Defender

    Zaxxon

Nearly 40 fairly well-preserved machines (save for one of the standalone DK machines having a monitor that displays colors wrong, but the controls work). The staff immediately go to tend to the machines after hours if something isn't working right (I had trouble moving when I tried to play the TRON games, and Battlezone), and the entire "Replay Zone" area these games are located in (some you actually have to go all the way up to the 5th floor to play). I have to say, for just under $40 to go there as long as you want to play these things.. all on FREE-PLAY no less you can't get a better deal. I'm thinking of just getting an annual pass to that place alone for this. :D

:edit: Oh, forgot to mention there's a hell of a lot of fun interactive stuff too in addition to numerous mini-cafes and a snack bar. And here I thought DisneyWorld didn't have anything to interest me. :D

  2. I think it's the nicest clone on the market, personally.  Sure, it has compatibility problems, but all of the clones do.  As long as you see it as another Famiclone, and not as a reincarnation of the NES, it's an excellent system, with a lot of features not found on comparable units.

As far as Jagasian goes, he has a point about Messiah not being 100% honest about the innards of it, but that point is lost by all of the hatred and bile that seems to be coming out of him.  Relax.  Messiah didn't personally hurt you or anything else.  They didn't even really lie, since they said that it was a custom IC, which it technically is.  It seems to me that you are trying to make your mark on this item and no one wants to hear it.

If you want a Famicom AV, buy a Famicom AV.

If you want a modified Top-Load NES, buy a modified top-load NES.

If you want a Famiclone, buy an NEX.

Otherwise, shut up and let the grown-ups talk.

  Thank you, J.Max for bringing some common sense into this thread. I do agree, if I want to play the FC catridges (not to mention use the accessories and the DiskSystem) I'll scour eBay for an A/V FamiCom. Other than that I'm keeping the NES and that's it. Just please folks, just let this thread end here. This bickering is startin' to get a little too much for me, y'know?

  3. For me, it means being able to re-live and reminisce about the games I've grown up with and devloped a lot of cherished memories on. It's dusting off that old Atari 2600 or NES after it's sat in the closet for a while and plugging a cartridge of a game I enjoyed so much (like Kirby's Adventure) and playing it where I can enjoy the game just as if it was the first time I played it. It's popping that diskette or cassette into my Atari XE or C128 (man, I wish I had one of those again.. miss my 128..) and getting yourself psyched up for when that game you want to play so much finally loads and you can jump right in. It's going into an arcade and being able to play all your favorite arcade games from the 70s, 80s, and early-to-mid 90s on individual machines when you can (thank you, DisneyQuest) and standing hunched-over for hours on end trying to get an all-time personal high schore.

THAT my friends, is what Classic Gaming is to me. I will always be trying to help re-live my gaming memories however I can. To be perfectly honest, even a number of the game compilations for the modern systems (Atari 80 Classic Games in One, Namco Museum, Midway Arcade Treasures) can do a good job of helping to remember games I loved so much, or even discover new games I may never have heard of and find myself liking (I never heard of Rally-X or Phozon before the PSX Namco Museum series, but I really enjoyed them afterwards. Especially Phozon.). Classic Gaming is just nothing more than being able to remember and re-live the memories you cherish on the games you loved in the past.

    Off-topic: Woo-hoo. 200th post, or somethin'. :P

  4. You're kidding... the system's actually WEAKER than the twenty year old Amiga 500?  That is beyond depressing.  I thought it had AGA support and everything... maybe I was thinking of the more advanced CDTV.

So, can I just install memory designed for an Amiga computer, or do I have to buy a special chip or cartridge designed especially for the unit?

Jess, the CD32 is more POWERFUL than the A500. You got your info backwards, man. :P The CD32 can be upgraded into a beefier 1200 as remo mentioned. But for the classic A500 games.. I don't know how you could upgrade its memory. I'd try the AmigaKit website to see if they offer classic Amiga memory upgrades.

  5. Not sure 'bout the power supply, Jess, but I can suggest one thing: upgrade to 1MB of Chip-RAM if at all possible. There are some A500 games that will NOT work on a mere 512KB (Ghosts 'n Goblins being one of them.. oh that was a hell of a sweet port.. not perfect.. but damn..).

Also, for whoever was talking about the CD32, that is not an A500-class machine. That's actually just a console-focused A1200 (dead serious, compare the specs, plus the CD32 also uses a completely different chipset than the A500).

But yeah, for a lot of the old games the A500 is an excellent choice. Just make sure you upgrade to 1MB of Chip-RAM and get a good joystick.. preferrably two-button for games like R-Type (yes, R-Type DOES use the second button.. found that out running WinUAE in the past).

  6. Well, the 2600 versions of Ikari Warriors I have (and getting a second copy of) and Motorodeo I'm going to be re-selling. I'm hoping to make some profit off of them so I can re-build my savings accounts (I'm having to risk my own cash so I can make some kinda money while in college). Maybe someday I'll buy a copy of some rare games for the sake of actually playing them.

  7. Actually, I didn't know what to expect from this forum.  I got troll'ed when I mentioned that I preferred A800 Ballblazer to the 7800 version.

I dunno, I actually enjoy the A800 version as well. Plus the A800 version also has an intro as opposed to the 7800 version. I guess some just want to jump right into the game after a title screen.

  8. Is there any reason why a controller for a 2-port 5200 won't work on a 4-port unit? I had to ask because I used to own both (and stupidly threw away the 4-port a decade ago), but when I tried to plug the controllers from the 2-port system into the 4-port, they would only work for the 4-port. What gives? :?

  9. Yeah, I actually went and opened the Ballblazer box I got sealed at the flea market for $7 (which I posted about in the Thrift Finds thread), and discovered with was a red end-label. Now the real question (which can be asked on the 2600 forums) is: should an Atari 2600 boxed game have its shrinkwrap removed when sealed? Especially for gems like Ikari Warriors, Motorodeo, Gravitar (Silver Box/Label), Swordquest: Waterworld, and Quadrun?

  10. Tron Deadly Discs (Intellivision)

    Discs of Tron (Arcade)

    Duck Tales (NES)

    The Jungle Book (Genesis/SNES)

The Lion King (Genesis/NES/SMS.. yes I have the SMS version from Europe)

    And most importantly:

    Kingdom Hearts (PS2)

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA)

    Tron 2.0 (PC)

I gotta say I'm looking forward to KH2. The Tron level named "Space Paranoids" looks interesting.

  11. Oh man, did I make like a bandit with some scores:

Sega Genesis Ver. 1 with 32X expansion, controllers, all hookups, and 13 games (12 in the box!) for $10

Genesis Ver. 2 with hookups and Sonic1 game (game in box) for $5

NES "Action Set" with hookups, controllers, and 7 games for $10

MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel for $5

Not bad, I'd have to say. :D

  12. Eh, I just decided "hell with it, I'll report this anyway".

Bubble Bobble II (JR was the name for the JPN version) is valued at a mere $12 for a loose cartridge for GameBoy.

Plus I also found a "Super 6-in-1" cartridge containing Puzzle Bobble, RockMan X, Battletank, Tom&Jerry (why?), Super Mario World, and Top Gear.

    Ok, I'm going to bed.

  13. Not exactly. The joystick itself is already USB. THe thing is, the controls aren't accurate-enough for some games (Street Fighter-type stuff, for example), and despite it shows up as an "8-button gamepad" in the Control Panel, I actually have to MANUALLY enable 8-button mode.

  14. Well, in terms of Sony let's not forget they're losing even MORE money after the whole scandal regarding their DRM-protected CDs. That's going to even further hurt their production capability for the PS3. That, plus many games just don't seem to show very much innovation these days.

I mean take a look at the releases for consoles lately: it's just the same sports, war, and FPS genres over and oer again.
