I had one growing up and remember that the buttons liked to get stuck when pushed down. We had to use a stick pin or something to get them to come back up. We gave it away many years ago.

Does anyone still type in game programs from magazines?
bfutrel replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
It's been many years since I last typed in a program. The last one I typed in was one from Run magazine. It was supposed to do all sorts of nice stuff for the C128. Three pages of tiny print with the checksums. Each line was several groups of 4 digits. After saving it I ran the program and it said 'April Fool's from RUN Magazine!'. Even worse, I typed it in AGAIN to make sure I didn't do something wrong! Needless to say I wasn't too happy about that.... -
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force for the PC. I've had it for a while and needed to blow things up while repairing computers over the weekend. I've also been playing Chuzzle Deluxe on the PC and my Verizon cell phone. The phone version has a bug where it will crash on level 41 or 42 depending on the difficulty level.

http://www.jackbergsales.com/toys/WICOComm...kController.htm It's a WICO Command Control joystick controller. Judging from the base I thought it was a WICO but I wasn't sure what model until googling it.

Here here! Legos and dominoes used as building blocks were favorite playthings, along with matchbox/hot wheel cars. Not to mention building card houses from movie trading cards (Planet of the Apes, James Bond, Star Trek: The Movie). If only I knew then what I know now - I really messed up those cards by doing that. My computer is built from cast off/new parts. At least the PC is - the Macs are a different story. -

I got one of those for Christmas as a child with the dumpster attachment from my Grandma. I lived in a trailer then so there wasn't too many places you could play with it. The dumpster connected to the BigTrak with what looked like a headphone jack. Eventually that piece broke off of the dumpster chassis. I have no clue what happened to it, but I'm sure it's no longer at my parent's place. -
Pretty light for me too. Atari 7800 (not working at the moment - would really like to play it again!) Sega Dreamcast

Finally got an A/V cable for the Dreamast I picked up last week from eBay for $4. The unit actually works! I can't wait to connect it to a TV. Right now it's connected to a TV card and the picture is not as sharp as it could be. -
Which of the 'last gen" consoles do you own?
bfutrel replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
Just a Dreamcast for me. Picked it up from one of the local thrift stores recently. Once the A/V cable arrived from eBay I'll get to see what I've missed. In the past I've owned a PS1, but it got to the point where I did not play it for 6 months then sold it. -

Thanks. The only thing it was missing was the A/V cable. Unfortunately I didn't realize it until after I bought it. It also came with an extension controller cable. I BIN'ed a A/V cable from eBay and hopefully it will arrive within the next few days. It powers up and reads the CD, but until the cable arrives I have no clue what is being displayed. Have you tried any of the emulators that run on the Dreamcast? Also how do you tell when the system was made? -

Purchased from a local thrift store yesterday: $40 Sega Dreamcast base unit 4 regular controllers Fishing rod controller Light gun Power cord Sega Bass Fishing 2 CD inside of the unit 1 'rumble' pack 1 memory card games at $1 each Sonic Adventure 2 Confidental Mission (Also had NCAA 2k2 College Football inside ) Max Steel Sega Marine Fishing Sega GT CD case with 4x4 EVO inside Toy Commander (empty case - drat! ) Army Men-Sarge's Heroes (empty case - double drat! ) Given to me years ago but I never had a Dreamcast to play them on: Sonic Adventure Soul Calibur Empty case for NFL2k While the price of the base unit may seem like a lot to some, it's the only one I've seen in the wild in many years. I may have to go back and buy the remaining games at $1 each to see if the missing ones are in those cases. -
What computer did you learn to program BASIC language on?
bfutrel replied to deadmeow's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I initially learned on a C-64, then flip-flopping between a Coleco Adam (BASIC is very close to an Apple II), a C-128D (boy I miss it sometimes), a genuine IBM PC at school (not XT) and a Royal Alphatronic PC (used CPM if I remember). First PC I did programming on was a Tandy 1000EX. Now I write code using VB 6, VB .NET 2003 and 2005 for Windows and am trying to learn PHP in my spare time. -
My first computer was a Coleco Adam, purchased in 1987. I used that for two years or so, then bought a Commodore 128D. That was used for another 2-3 years until I bought a Tandy 1000EX running DOS v2.1. Over the years I've used DOS (MS-DOS and DR-DOS), OS/2 v2.1 to v4, then Win95 and up. I started with Macs in 1999, and used some of the older ones (SE, Classic) through 2000-2001. Does that count?

If I have to pee in a cup to enjoy my games, I'll pass. I hope he ate something though....

I would if my 7800 worked. Nothing but vertical lines when turned on. It's rather rusty inside. That and I don't have the pack-in controller any more. I do have a Genesis 3-button controller that I was going to mod for the second button, but I haven't bothered to do that since the system doesn't work at the moment.

I didn't do as well as I do on the arcade (2 million+), but it's not bad. 131,900 Shadow, the 23,000 was from DigDug, but thanks.
-
I suck at the game - only got about 23,000 last night. I thought I did better at it when my 7800 still worked!

Mine came from my first email address back in 1995. IBM Internet Access under OS/2 only allowed 7 characters, so it lopped off the last letter of my last name. Nothing too fancy. Yes I'm a mid-aged old fart. Brian

2 External floppy drives that work with the ThinkPad 760XD I got free earlier in the week for $2 each at a local thrift store. What gets me about this particular store is that I'll occasionally see some keyboards and drives from Macs. I have yet to see a Mac for sale in there. -

Thinkpad 760XD laptop P166, 32MB RAM, 3GB HD, CD-ROM, modem, Win95 no USB or network connections (yet) , battery won't hold charge Free from a booth at the flea market mall where I help out. It was in a pile of junked laptops, and this one has some peeling of the rubberized cover. Other than that it works great. -
Xbox 360 Backwards Compat ( want do you want to see)
bfutrel replied to Zoop's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Unfortunately, Sony bought the Virtual Game Station software from Connectix when they lost the lawsuit. This means MS does not have access to it. I still kick myself for getting rid of my Mac version of that program. -
What was the first 2600 game you had to "earn".
bfutrel replied to Mr. Postman's topic in Atari 2600
The first one I remember saving up to buy was Battlezone. When I first played it, I was so disappointed that it looked nothing like the arcade version. Later I liked it for what it was. The first game to be pulled out of the system while it was running and stomped with a large boot? That would be Realsports Baseball. Dad was so PO'd at it that he yanked it out of our Sears Video Game System II and stomped it with the heel of his boot. After taping it back later, it still worked. -

I remember when I bought my ADAM (the one that was an add-on to the ColecoVision - gawd was that combo huge!) I bought a spare power supply to use the system instead of using the printer. It put out a fair amount of heat. Unfortunately I gave away mine after I bought my C128D.
