*sigh* This is the exact reason why people need to put disclaimers on all "price guides" and "rarity guides" that the are part opinion and not to be used as a "bible". So many times I've seen other EBay user saying "this website says this game is this rare!" Then they proceed to price the item at an outrageous rate based on that information... Sure these games are old but geez... there aren't too many that are worth more than $10.... at least not ones you'd find on EBay very often! I'm half tempted to email that guy myself and tell him why his auction will probably never sell...

America's Most Wanted: eBay scammers
MoonlightKnight replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Auction Central
Well you actually need to look at how this all went down. The guy had 2 negative feedbacks in the past 12 months before Dec 14th or so. Suddenly, within 2 days (between the 17th and 19th), he gets over 100 negatives! The 82% he ended up with was a result of all the negatives, not something he had before. Ebay did do thier job and boot the guy, it just took them a day or two to get him. It's just too bad for all those people that it ws an after-the-fact thing... I hope most of the money gets returned to those people. -
Really? That's weird... I see the Atari picture label quite often... it's about a 50/50 split with the text labels. I hardly ever see Sears picture labels though... I just found a Star Raiders one recently and that was my first ever.
-
Update: I recently won an auction with Picnic included, although there was writing on the label... at least I finally got it though. now if I could just find Piece O Cake somewhere... thrift and garage sale finds are practically non-existant around here leaving EBay as my only option... and I can't recall seeing it there in... well, forever.
-
Nice... I saw that lot but I missed the label. If I collected that intensely, I'd bid on it. I'm not much on label variations.
-
You may want to add the recently spied "Steroids"... I think it's a game about Hans and Franz from SNL?
-
I've got one and I agree... damn fine game there, Andrew!

Not that they are the best games... but give Private Eye and Ghostbusters a try... The EPYX "Games" had "things to do" as well. H.E.R.O. was always fun. Montezuma's Revenge was a "big game" with lots of places to go. Mountain King has a big continuous map as well. Raiders Of The Lost Ark, while not the best game, is kinda the same style. Same goes for Riddle of the Sphinx. Roc N' Rope is an interesting game as well. You could also try Smurfs Rescue although I'd say the Coleco version looks MUCH better. I always did get a kick out of Star Wars: Death Star Battle, although the gameplay gets a bit repetative... There is always the simple Superman game... and yeah you could add the Swordquest series to the list. Not sure if these are QUITE what you are looking for, but it's a start!

Burgertime auctions $31 loose or $6 shrinkwrapped
MoonlightKnight replied to taxman's topic in Auction Central
I always love the "I'm gonna get THIS one not matter what!" mentality on EBay... just wish a few more people would do that with MY auctions... I could use thier money -
Actually, they did it once before when Paypal first started. They had to change it because of some security and legal issues. I'm guessing they worked those out again.

Report him... that's an immediate ban if he pulls that. His "Local offer" is meaningless if he intends to do business on EBay.

Domain Name "Atariauctions.com"

If there were an actual website there, it might be worth something. As it stands now, it's not worth more than what you're paying for the domain name. -
HSC Season 3 Week 23: Ultra SCSIcide
MoonlightKnight replied to Ze_ro's topic in 2600 High Score Club
Here's my first try That's the first time I've ever played this... so I don't really know how well I did. The level I lost on got pretty fast! Fun game though. -
Ok, I have a question... I've been wondering why it is that all homebrews come in old Atari cases? I mean... I realize there are alot of Combat carts out there that need to be put down... but why couldn't a homebrew come in another cart? Just curious... is there any reason that COULDN'T happen? I would love to see a homebrew come in an Activison case... I always did like the look of those cases.

Man, those sprites look good! I hope this project works out... I'd really love a copy of this one!

It's the brand... in general, Maxtor drives suck. I've heard numerous stories of these things just giving out from friends and on the internet... even had one die on me. I won't ever buy the brand again. I'll still to my Seagates and Western Digitals. never had a sigle issue with either of them. I love my 80GB Barracuda!

What 360 games are so great anyway
MoonlightKnight replied to msaeger's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've never owned an XBOX... but Call Of Duty 2 looked REAL good... and I'm not usually a fan of that kind of game! Hell if they can turn the head of a NON-fan, imagine what the fans think of it! -
PayPal 10% off coupon code, when using eBay
MoonlightKnight replied to CPUWIZ's topic in Auction Central
NICE! I didn't save MUCH, but anything is good! Thanks for that code! -
LOL... new EBayer got caught up in the bidding instead of worrying about the price... I was selling this with a BIN price of $2 plus shipping... too bad for him
-
DOH! Dangit it... I should have read the titles more closely! I didn't even see Mean 18... That's what I get for glancing at this lot so quickly!

Jess says it only works in 3 directions, so they probably should have said that it was untested (unless they knew it was broken). But, caveat emptor - if it doesn't say it works, and you don't ask, it is your fault you didn't know. Ebay is a bazaar. Imagine everyone you're buying from is an unlicensed street merchant. Read all negatives and neutrals (use http://toolhaus.org to automatically find negative and neutral feedback so you can see if the seller is consistently screwing up), and ask questions about devices to make sure they work, if they're not advertised explicitly as working. EDIT: I don't mean to say that the seller is any less of a jerk if they knew they were selling junk! Don't misunderstand. But you can't be certain that this person knew. It could be an honest mistake. If they seem responsive to your messages, it *is* good practice to talk to them first. The one negative I have received was a retaliation by someone I should have known better than to deal with - if only I'd used toolhaus then, I would have seen a pattern of non-communication, slow (sometimes never) shipping, retaliatory feedback, etc! 983791[/snapback] Thanks Jacob... you said was I was thinking better than I conveyed it originally. My original post came across rather gruff. I agree... if this person KNEW what they were selling, then they were jerks. Chances are, they sold it untested so they DIDN'T know. Judging from thier other auctions, this looks like thier style. Checking thier feedback totals, and looking at thier most recent auctions would have given a better glimpse of this. sku_u was right when you have no expectation of anything more than an "as is" policy for any item and the seller doesn't have to offer anything more than that. Alot of sellers just have higher standards than that... and those are the people you should search out and buy from. Their auction wordings should help you decide who is who. Still, you should have contacted them BEFORE you left the neutral. Despite thier "no money back" clause, I bet they would have done something to protect thier feedback rating had you informed them of a problem. You getting a neutral back doesn't surprise me BECAUSE of that. Just as you rated them as a seller, they rated you as a buyer by saying "He didn't bother to tell me there was a problem!" That's the reason I would have also banned you. If you did it once, chance are you would do it again for a lesser offense (maybe a label defect next time... who knows?). Banning you would just be protecting myself from future problems. Anyway... here's hoping you've learned from this transaction... EBay is still a great place to buy and sell... despite some of the people who use it... don't let one bad transaction scare you away.

If this is being updated, put me down for a CIB Waterworld and a loose Bumper Bash
-
Yeah I'd say you got a pretty fair deal... anything above $.50 each would have been too much. That's the price I usually see for them around Chicago (when I actually see them!)
-
Well without actually seeing what the seller wrote and going on your description of the incident alone: You shouldn't have left him a neutral just because you didn't like the quality of a product he didn't make. He's just the seller, not the manufacturer. He didn't deserve that kind of feedback as long as he upheld the promises he made in his auction. Now, if he said it would be shipped promptly and it wasn't... then that's his fault. If he claimed "low shipping" without actually listing the price then dinged you for an outrageous amount... yeah that's him again. If you contacted him and he was rude or took forever to reply to you... well that's borderline but that would still be him... If you had been my customer and pulled that? Instant ban... no question. Here's that auction
