  1. I didn't know that Thomas owns the rights on the codes he did hacks on. If he owns them, then he has of course the right to say wo may distribute them or not. If he doesn't have the rights on the codes he can't tell people to stop selling it - only the legal owner of the original code can.
  2. But the guy who sells your hack makes way more profit from Edward Hopper's work than from your "work". So it's up to Edward Hopper to claim, not on you. When you are doing a hack you have to be aware that you are doing something "illegal" and you have to be aware not having any rights to claim when someone else does something with your illegal work (i.e. selling it) that you don't like ... Your invested time and effort is kinda worthless ... So Mr. Hopper could talk about bad morale, but not the person who hacked Mr. Hopper's work ...
  3. I think we have to distinguish between Thomas' homebrews and his hacks before bashing around here and in some way I agree with Godzilla's opinion. When Thomas tells Randy to stop selling Thomas' very own creations then Randy has to do so. When Thomas tells Randy to stop selling Thomas' hacks ... I don't know. Noone beside the legal owner of the code has any rights to do something with those games, including altering and selling. As long as Randy sells them and the legal owner doesn't do anything against that ... come on, why should anyone else bash him then? Isn't that childish? ... *shrug*
  4. That's true and I appreciated it when AA came into the "business" as well.
  5. A late jump on this thread, but now after reading the whole thread which cost me an hour I still would like to drop my 2 cents here. That's a point. How can I be sure when I buy a new released former prototype with box + docs for $45, that the producer/seller of this game has all the rights? Isn't it relatively easy to take a ROM, make 250 carts, boxes and docs that cost, let's say $25 for each copy, and make $20 x 250 = $5000 easily ... Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are loyal and honest people out there, but all that case has left a VERY BAD taste on the community of classic gaming fans. Back in the early 90s when I discovered again the games of my youth it was a hobby, today it seems to be more and more a business. Randy may not sell Thomas' homebrews when Thomas wants him to stop - no doubt. But it's harder to tell with hacks imho. I am not at all interested in any hacks, I would never buy one because hacks have no value for me. But when someone hacks a game and doesn't have any rights on the game, I think it should only be done for fun or to help the community. Noone except for the legal owner of the game code may sell it with profit imho. I think that the AA guys are good guys, but the world doesn't work in the way that there are only 100% good and 100% bad people. All of us are somewhere in between. Whom in the classic gaming community should I trust in the future? The closedown of Hozer is not good, it has left a gap and as any other "business" this one needs competition. Again don't get me wrong. I am not on his side, but I am not on any other side too. I am just a "neutral" collector and from a collector's point of view, as I said, it leaves a very bad taste ... Dieter
  6. Wow, great to hear from you on this board, Rob! I would also vote for releasing the ROM, a "normal" edition and a special edition. Myself I would take the special edition - I never had the chance to get a Cubicolor ... Would be great if there would be a SE of the game with cart, box, docs, autograph, ... well the docs should contain as much as possible about the game, regarding history etc, and maybe some stuff regarding Rob himself, like pictures and some story from "back then" I think I would prefer to have the game completed, but if that's not possible, the unfinished version is ok too for me Best regards from ice cold Austria/Europe to sunny California ...

    Eurocon 3?

Hi John & Steve! Well, this year's European convention was AustroCon which took place in Vienna in March 2002, that was like EuroCon 3. Unfortunately it seems that it was too far from the United Kingdom ... a few British guys pre-registered but none of them really appeared at the Con. We had guests from Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States and Austria, and it was big fun! You can find some pictures at http://www.dieterkoenig.at/ccc/austrocon20...2%20Photos.html Nevertheless I really hope that someone will organize the fourth European convention in 2003 ... and there ARE rumours that it could really happen. I don't want to tell too much about it, as it is still very unsure ... Cheers, Dieter ccc---
  10. Bah, our time will come ... as soon as Alpine Ski Worldcup begins!!!
  11. Holy fuck Marco, I thought our national football team can't get any worse ... but the 2-3 vs Switzerland last Wednesday proofed the opposite ... Holland can play with their U21 team in Euro qualification vs Austria and they will still win ...
  12. Yes, I got the cart from a guy in Vienna and I am pretty sure he bought it in Vienna back then. Thanks guys!! Cu, Dieter
  13. Can anyone tell me which release of Time Race this is please? Unfortunately I don't have DPG7 yet, but DPG6 lists 6 releases of Time Race. The AA website list 5 releases, but only 2 of them with label scans. None of them are really identical to mine ... Thanks, Dieter
  14. Nono, Vidpik games are free of violence!!! Oh, btw: <mappy> clogger was last on IRC channel #rgvc 27 days, 9 hours, 14 minutes ago.
  16. That's why Thomas' system is better Cheers, Marco Which one? The $ < x ? : x = ]0..]
  18. ccc--- stamps around a bit on Marco until he is flat as a sheet of paper, then slaps him around a bit with a G7200 console and finally forces Marco to eat a 2600 Jr.
  19. ccc--- slaps Marco around a bit with a large trout Hey Marco, haven't seen you on #rgvc for ages ... we are missing your Vidpik comments!
  23. Mmh, ja, besser jetzt. Aber müsste ich den Onkel kennen?
