The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

I picked up 8 loose Genesis games at $1 each at my local GW. 1 of which will house the Everdrive. You can see how many times they marked it down. This GW tends to be overpriced -
Intellivision - Help me stop hating it so much!

Head to Head games were the best games on the INTV. Try Sea Battle and Shark! Shark! It is a great party game system. -
Nice, I use Ultraedit on the PC and may start using LW with that macro feature. On the 64k issue, I would think someone using an 8bit for text editing would not have a problem getting a system with more than 128k RAM. Keeping this archaic standard limits the usefulness for the majority of current users. I believe the software should motivate people to upgrade instead of having to build to the most common denominator. This formula has been shown to be more successful than dumbing down software for the most common system.

Both bidders probably wanted the inserts.

Great that it is sold. I was going to ask for the D board if you were going to trash the set. I have a Sony that needs that board replaced. I would have bought it if I were closer.

I did not know that the 4 score was hard to find. Around here, I rarely see NES systems. Funny thing is I have found more top loaders than toasters. Back on topic, the 3 Gamegears (2 from Greg) I picked up through the years had bad capacitors. I opened them up and replaced the sound capacitors. They are now running near perfect. I had planned on using one of them to make a portable 2600, but not if they are working. The Gamegears cost me about $10 each on average. -

I went and picked it up. I will keep it and maybe use it for trade bait. I forgot it was worth something, because I was disappointed this was so rough compared to the CIB one I missed. Also, I did not want my wife to get on my case with another system to collect for. My thrift does not seem to have a collector coming on weekdays like me. That is why it was still there. -
That project looks old. It 1 parallel and 2 serial ports? I have not seen a production machine with that many ports in a couple of years. Unless of course their target market is also retro PC peripherals.

I spotted a NES top loader for $15 at my local thrift. I had the system, dogbone, SNES controller, and a 2 controller to 4 controller splitter. I wondered if this was a good deal. It had only a RF output and no power brick. I did not pull the trigger mainly because I still hate that I missed the CIB top-loader for $15 a few years ago. -
I can take some 800 and 1200xl off your hands. Let me know. Bryan, I got a 1200 off of ebay and thought I was the luckiest person. I only bought it because the keyboard was the cleanest I had ever seen.

I have the Zenith branded monitor. The Power/volume switch was well worn by the time I got it in the 80s. It was not too clear compared to the Commodore monitors and they are heavy.

I do not remember much advertising except on TV.

Commodore SX-64 cap kits (was 1702 cap kits)

When does one need a cap kit? -
The official name of the game system is not XEGS
Almost Rice replied to DracIsBack's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
My brother and I had 2 800xl and could not justify the expense for a XEGS. Once, My brother got us a light gun and we had no need for a XEGS. I only got mine recently in the past 6 years. They have lots of room for internal expansion, but have the odd rom setup and no PBI. -

This annoyed me badly. I had no idea it was the Playstation and thought it was short for a Japanese version of the Playstation that we were not getting. -
Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back - The Arcade Game
Almost Rice replied to Crimefighter's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I assume that he is probably rarity based on the complete arcade and not a Star Wars converted to The Empire Strikes Back. I do not know the difference. -

I would have probably passed it up if I was not looking for a Nomad. I normally look for things under $10 and the thrift I have been visiting has been jacking up the prices. This leaves it on the shelves for months and stuff gets damaged and parts go missing. I did not realize the battery pack was hard to find. Bad part is the clear plastic has a crack in it. The adaptor is just one I picked up that could fit and was close enough rating for the Nomad to turn on. -
I had Star Raiders for the Atari 8bit computers. One of the 2 chips were bad.

Which versions do you have? -
These look like that they are resealed packages. Looks like a 3rd party seller with Amazon Fulfillment. Link

I really liked SC 1 and 2. I just had to finish 3 because of it. It was kind of boring flying around that SC universe. The combat was similar to SC2.

I was lucky and got modern PCs. TI-99s in elementary, Apple IIe and II+ in middle school, and a VAX, Macs and 386s in HS. I picked a 486 up for college and learned to set up the memory for my games. I remember trying to set up Mech Warrior on the 486. I had to slow it down. I had fun playing Starcon3 on that old machine. I would use memmaker to start and then modify the rest manually if I needed more room. I also used QEMM later.
