  1. It was no big deal. I figured it was a timing issue and read Larry's post Are 800XL's less stable than 65/130 XE's? He mentions Bob Puff's stability mod. From there, I googled Bob Puff stability mod and found Mathy's site. Then read the article and Mathy's corrections. When it mentions PBI devices, memory, and phase 2 timing, I figured I was onto something. I looked up the changes I needed and made sure it would not burn up anything and applied it on the 600xl that was having problems. So we can thank Bob, Mathy, Google, and Larry in that order.
  2. Looks like it. At first I thought we had to chop pins 5 and 4, but I now realize this is a correction to the pin numbering on the schematic. Gonna try this tonight Dom, if you're watching! Just remember to use the Mathy corrected Mod-1 instructions for the 600xl.
  3. I got my PAL 16k 600xl to work. I got it from reading Mathy's web site. In the page he refers to Bob Puff's article STABILIZING XL/XE COMPUTERS WITH PBI DEVICES After reading it, I figure adding the connection between pin 1 to pin 4 on 74ls08 was what I needed. Here is a pic of the fix. Its the small DIP on the bottom left. BTW the 600xl MB is a Rev B.
  4. Looks like we just missed out on $100 one time charge and no annual fee with the nettalk tk6000.
  5. They probably want to show you more stuff that may interest you, but they forget that they are making their search more useless. They will eventually enough buyers that sellers will have to start leaving. How many atari tshirts were in your last search? I have heavily curtailed my eBay use
  6. I have been wanting something like this for a long time. I see we will have some more records with Robotron on HSC. If it is programmable I could see enjoying games like 2600 Stargate and more complex input for games. I can see this being sold to other atari joystick compatible platforms as well making the cost to create it much more tolerable by spreading the cost to many more users/units.
  7. Its only advantage is the unit is standalone. No computer needed. I just needs to connect to the internet via its network port.
  8. Maybe we need to look at feedback left for others prior to doing business with them. I can not believe he is at 99.6% He has only 1 neg. He would have had more if sellers could have left negs. He sure gave lots of negs to sellers. He even gave 6 negs to buyers before the change. 9. Is the disk speed correct? I thought the 1050 supposed to spin at 288 rpm.
  10. The awesome part is your wife got it for you. She is a keeper.
  11. I tried that with the 600xl I had that would only work with the board unjumpered. There was no difference. I then jumpered the RAM 320xl and same problem shows up.
  12. These vintage stuff is still what I use. I have a dual 733 P3 setup that I have used almost 10 years. I have picked up many P3 near 1Ghz laptops. They are nearly the last laptops with parallel and serial ports. As long as XP or Linux can run on them, they are still usable.
  13. At my Goodwill computer works. They have been selling 700-850Mhz P3 laptops @ $5-15. I have been picking them up. I can use them for many things since they have network, serial, and parallel ports. Most are missing RAM and HD. At least this location puts out very obscure stuff and not dump them like most locations. I have seen Apple IIe sold at the one in Austin. I look for classic computer items and it is great they do no throw them out.
  14. I do not mind them charging it separately as long as they are shipped separately. If they save money on consolidated shipping, I expect savings too. I do not mind paying for services as advertised. If they charge for Priority, DC, and insurance, but ship 1st Class and DC no insurance. I give them hell. The problem with the ebay sellers trying to profit off shipping is the lines get blurred and they start getting greedy.
  15. I remember some guy selling Ultima 4 without floppy label because of age it fell off. I reported it to EA and let them deal with it. I think informing the IP holder was more productive. I did what you guys are doing for a couple of weeks, but it seems nothing really changed. The seller just relisted if the item just happened to be taken down. I would notify the group that owns the rights to the property and the company that produced the title if they are still around.
  16. Is this what you were looking for?
  17. I picked up Dell 3 laptops P3 to P4 era for $5 to $10 each. I just need some ram and HD.
  18. I learned on a dead 800xl. It died a painful death. I installed 256K upgrade into a 800xl back in the 80s. I also learned from Metalguy66 and Warerat what not to do. They usually make fun of how crappy my solder joints are. I found this site to be useful.
  19. With the 320XL in hand, I finally have a reason to put the 32 in 1 inside my 600XL. I just cant find any information on it. If anyone has tried, let me know.
  20. Hitachi Your 400 is one with 48K so it should work for you. Normal 400 will have 16K. If you want to get stuff, I would start with SIO2PC, cartridge games and joysticks.
  21. I agree. I opened up a few of my 130xe and everyone of them had Micron Technology ram, except for the top leftmost chip. That 1 chip had NEC, Samsung or some other Japanese fab. The solution is probably to replace the MT ram or do 1 of the internal upgrades available.
