I kinda like the lower price just for the rom idea, but I want a cart even if I dont ever use it. I just wanted the rom so I could just start the game without pulling carts. Its the open mentality that makes me want to support Ken. He basicly has already released most of the game to the public with his Demo. I could not believe how complete it already is and he still is working on it.

Knowing how some people like to collect different versions, they might end up getting both. Thanks again for the answers Ken. As hard as you worked on this, I would never release your baby. I am a programmer too and I would not want my work just floating around either.

Converting an 800 into a XL - Phase One Complete!
Almost Rice replied to warerat's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I noticed you are in Houston. I would like to see your mod. I actually was interested in doing this at one time. The only difference is I dont want to press OPTION. Maybe the 32 in 1 OS from Atarimax may be an option. I like the way you think. I was thinking about putting a simm into my 800xl or XEGS, but this would be much more interesting. -
Will this work with a Newell upgraded 800xl?

Great game Paul. I had fun with my old trackball. I had one problem. Using Sparta 3.3 it load fine. In Mydos 4.53 on the MyIDE interface, it just loads and gives me junk on the screen and redraws the Mydos menu. What is the difference with Mydos.

Well, I was going to buy the 8bit version until I played the 7800 version. I like it more because the enemy that falls will come back where they fell to instead of the corners. That was the reason I am patiently waiting on the 7800 version. I would like the rom also if I buy one since using the CC2 is way too convenient. The look and feel the same to me. The 8bit is a bit easier at the default levels.

I know, but I have just having some fun and trying to figure things out. I was going to pull the pokey for the CC2 for my 7800 anyway. It was not much harder to desolder 3 more chips and socket them. Its nice to figure how things work. Somehow regulars here keep offerring their spare XEGS system to other with the same problem and I miss out. So I just decided to pull the chips. I had 1week off for Christmas so I had plenty of time. BTW, I pulled the ram chips and socketed them too. I then took the ram and inserted them into my 600xl. I now have a 64k 600xl. So the XEGS had good ram. If I ever get my XEGS to work I will make it my testbed. Just need some extra parts. Bones, you willing to part with the dead XEGS when you get the working one? I'll pick up the shipping.

I have the same problem. I had to socket all my 40pin chips and replaced them 1 by 1. The PIA was my problem. After replacement of the PIA, the system worked but erracticly and not with the keyboard. The keyboard could be detected, but no key presses registered except for those on the console. The only chips I have not changed are the Freddie and ROM. I guess you would need a spare xl or xe to pull the chips from.

5:23.0 The trick in scoring on Droid 4 is timing. Get the ball first and at full stride. If done right, it only takes 5 secs per 2 point shot. 3pt and 1pt take too long to line up. Theoretically and with a little luck, it should only take 25secs. to beat Droid 4. Also, playing any defense will kill the time. This is one of the games that I think would benefit from an online version like M.U.L.E.

Wow, there sure are a lot of people who like to criticize how a 12 year old should spend his money.

Marginally better? Games like Joust, Robotron, Asteroids, and Ballblazer are fantastic compared to their clunky, flickery, low-color computer cousins. 995784 I have both versions of all these games. If read the line within the context of my message. The statement means I did not want to put out extra money on my Middle School student budget for games that are marginally better than their 8bit counterparts. I prefer the 7800 versions now, but in 1986 the money was better spent on other things. I saw no difference in Ballblazer. Robotron looks the same to me. Joust has only 1 color for each player on the 8bit and the bounce on the ceiling is different from the 7800. Pole Pos. well did not look like they tried very hard ad improving this game. The only one of the above with much more improvement compared to the 8bit is Asteroids, but 3D rocks are not worth the outlay I would have to put out for these games alone. By that time. I had amass maybe a $1000 worth of 8bit equipment and software. I was not about to do it for the 7800. Especially when I saw the writing on the wall with the NES dominating from 1986. I was hoping thing would have improved softwarewise on the 7800, but it didn't and I just gave up waiting for the 7800 to have games worth upgrading for.

That makes sense.

Is 8-bit Congo Bongo identical to 5200 version?
Almost Rice replied to Christophero Sly's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Me either. I enjoyed the 8bit cart. I still have it. I did not know what I was missing because I never played the arcade. -
How does eBay allow this one to happen?
Almost Rice replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Auction Central
Exactly. 994523 I agree -
I noticed this too, but I just thought thats how SS disk drives worked.

As an 8bit owner from the 1984, I did not feel the need to get a 7800. I had use of a 400 since 1982. So our library of games was quite extensive by 1986 when the 7800 came out. The real problem was the marginal improvement in graphics was not worth the investment for me back in the 80s. Now with the CC2, I am able to play all the 7800 games and truly compare the systems. I find that the games are better, but the controllers held the system back. Ms Pacman is pretty good. Seeing the system now lets me know how poorly the Tramiels handled the 7800 in marketing and timing. If it had came out in 1984, I would have bought it instead of the 800xl. It might have been more of a success and we would have games comparable to the NES instead of comparing 7800 games to 5200 and 8bits Ataris. They knew it would have cannibalize their 8bit market, but they could have differentiated the market with different games. I was not going to buy Joust, Ms. Pacman, Robotron, Pole Pos. 2 and Qbert that were marginally better than my 8bit versions. I just didnt think Galaga and Ikari Warriors were worth getting the system. I just hope there are more guys like Kenfused, Schmutzpuppe, and PacManPlus that release games that were missing from the 7800 library. 7800 is the better system, but released 2 years too late and supported poorly. It was doomed to failure. 5200 games had nearly 5 years more development because it used 8bit computer architechture. Thats why it has so many well polished games. For those of you that say 1 system is better than the other, have you tried using the other system without any bias?

Who needs 1 minute. Sorry guys. I need to play Droid 9 regularly to try to beat my brother. He is even better than I am.
-
Yes, I have 3 different 6in1 readers and they readers and they treat MMC and SD cards the same. I see no difference when I use either.
-
I did not think there was difficulty settings. You have droid 1-9

I do the same thing. I am more interested in 8bit stuff than 7800.

The 800xl system just went for $230 shipped. Makes me want to put my boxed 800xl and 1050 with Commodore monitor up for sale, but you must consider that one of the collectors are no longer bidding on next listing.
-
Well, its hard to say what things should go for. Take this for example. I got a boxed 130xe and 1050 FD shipped for $56. It came with Basic XE and some games. Put that with a Commodore 1702 I picked up locally for $10. I had the monitor cable from 1990 so that wast $10. So for a $76 I have nearly an equivelent setup. At their current bid($167), I would assume both bidders want the convenience of getting it from one source. I was looking to see if there was anything that make it worth extra. The 800xl looked normal. 1050 is standard. Disk look like all copies. It really does not look that special to me. Everything looks clean and I guess the only thing that make it stand out is the computer and drive are boxed and no yellowing. If you luck out, you will get 2 major bidders that push it to the stratosphere. Without them, the price could be as low as $30(3rd bidder). At the low end shipping comes into play and $36 the price to me. So even that price $66 shipped is close to what I paid for my setup. If you really want higher prices, why dont you pack with some common games. Like about 5 7800 games and 10-20 2600 games. Basicly stuff that you cant really sell individually and throw in some dups. I have duplicates all over the place and would pack it into the systems I would sell in the future. I would advertise like "7800 system with 20+ games". That should get some attention. Like this When you see people quoting prices at $40 are probably missing some detail. Like the system was Boxed, or it had Composite output upgrade, or maybe a maybe even the expansion port. It just depends on what the collector is looking for and how well you advertise the distinction. I am not a collector so I dont know what the upper end prices tend to go for. In October-November, I noticed 7800 systems did go for near $40. I was looking for a 2nd 7800 at the time. I think timing and luck have lots to do with the price.

Atari 400 Chess Prototype or Promotional copy?
Almost Rice replied to toddst's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Check this link I think it might have had its label fall off. Though I dont know what Parker Bros. prototypes look like. -
The price will depend on how much someone is willing to pay for one. I go on ebay all the time for 7800 items and notice some people paying that much shipped. I shoot for ~$20 since I already have 2 systems. I was looking for one more. I got lucky and got one shipped for $17 last week. It had a 10 common games too, 5 were 7800 games. It was listed with a bad power supply. It came and was bad because the insulation was cut and the wires were shorting on itself. The last guy just taped over the short. I opened it up and separated the wires. The PS is now running the system and it has a hidden expansion port. The 7800 and carts were dirty and had grass in the cart port. I bought my 1st 7800 back in 1996 on ebay too. I paid $20 shipped with 10 games. The 2nd one was $21+shipping $5 in November. It came in near perfect condition. I was willing to wait for one that appeared in my price range. I am not in a hurry and thats why I got it for that price. If you are trying to sell here, you will have to wait until someone here is motivated to get one. On ebay, I would start it at $1 on a 7day listing ending on Sunday, but you run the risk of it selling for less than you wanted if only 1 person is interested. I would not start it at $10 or $20, because less people will see it at higher prices. Also you would need lots of pics. I notice the ones that sell higher on ebay have lots of clear pics and have extras(Boxes, games, and manuals). The price sometimes skyrockets the prices up because of the extras and some collectors are willing to pay for it. Also, dont do the reserved price listing. Turns off a lot a bidders and you will get less bids. I tend to ignore those unless its something I really want.

I like to know too. I just won the latest copy from myatari on ebay. NightSprinter, How does Stargate look? Is the play anything like 8bit Defender?
