1. I think U4 needed 48K 968278 32k in addition to the exisiting memory I am sure, so U4 would run fine 968462 Well, I was counting it as a 48k upgrade with the removal of the standard 16k card. I am posting new pics in a new message.
2. Amen, I got my 400 today. It has this upgrade on the underside with "Intec Peripherals Corp". It could also run Ultima 4.(so there must be a ram upgrade). There is also a switch in the Cartridge port. I have flipped the switch and it does not seem to do any thing. What could need a switch? an OS? Keyboard needs some cleaning of the contacts. I will get shots of the insides when I open her up for that. I will then be able to see what that switch is for. I finally got an 800 last month and both of these systems are built like tanks! I had sold my 400 and got this 400. (that was my first computer ever!)
3. Maybe thats where he came up with the BSOD.
4. I got a XF551 new from Jack's Federated stores before they closed. I still have it and I do not have a grey power supply. It was a black one identical to the 400/800 PS and 1050 PS.
5. He used an XEGS. He also remove the top right side of the PCB for batteries. It was originally taken out to put in a laptop HD, but he now uses a CF card for that purpose.
6. WOW! I did not know you could cut the PCB like that. the 8" screen worked out great. I was planning the same using my Compaq laptop that had a dead keyboard. But I know now that it would been too hard since it has a unique video based on VGA. Still I was thinking about it using semi dead systems I had on hand. He really did a complete job. OMG!! he sell kits for his previous projects!!. I think I better get a XEGS before the few that are out there get all bought up.
7. Did you just buy this off ebay? If not, maybe you could contact this buyer. It looks like he will have the original disk to copy from. I was going to bid on it until it hit the stratosphere.
8. Here are my MyIDE carts with a IDE2CF converter. I had to find some floppy power connectors to solder onto the cart. It would have been cleaner if I put +5v onto pin 20, but the converter I got did not use that pin. I would have had to modify the converter too. It was much too small for that. I used a 512Meg PNY CF card from Fry's. It was the cheapest at the time after rebate. So here is my cost break down. $50 MyIDE +$5 IDE2CF +$20 512MB CF =$75 That is the cheapest and most convenient solution for a HD on the 8bits that I have found. Now I can play games without turning on the slave PC. Now its time to figure out how to put game on it. I have already put MULE on there. Also is there a utility to test the speed? I saw a post on it earlier, but am not able to find it now.
9. Hmm, $130 - $50 = $80 shipped for a 2gig IDE HD. I think I'll pass on that deal. If its a CF then its a steal at that price, but I doubt it.
10. I don't know what those are, but I assume they use the cartridge port. Still the IDE interface for the ST at $50 sounds reasonable. @ $110+ its just too much for me. At least it could be used as cheap backup for a regular HD. I have IDE drive laying all over the place. Also could use 2.5" drives or CF cards with a converter.
11. He has 3 auctions in all for the same product. His track record is a bit dubius Site where you can buy direct Its 160 Pzl here ~ $48 Paskud talks about it here. Its 160 + 20 shipping Pzl. He says its about $50 shipped here. The exchange rate may have changed, but it seems better than the ebay site.
12. I dont plan of using any productivity software. The shipping quote changed and its only $18 difference now. I will probably get it. Thanks Darklord
13. I have a question. How much is a SM124 worth. I just bought a 1040ST online. The shipping is about 30 CAD difference in shipping costs. Which is about $25 USD. So is it worth the extra $25 to get the monochrome monitor? I already have 2 SC1224 monitors. I dont really need monochrome but I guess I can ask just for the monitor cable make a VGA cable. What do you guys think?
14. I thought it was the same thing. I like the simm mod though. Would this work in North America? I would think its a PAL system.
15. I got mine from this guy I am still waiting on it. I'll let you know if it works. This one will connect directly on the cartridge. It will make it kind of long but its all in one unit. Maybe MrAtari can make a MyCF cart . It would eliminate our need to buy the converters.
16. I think that is pretty clear. Thanx ATARIeric
17. YES, but its hard to separate. I dont want to break the plastic case. I got 2 of them last week. I am still waiting on my IDE2CF converter. The links dont seem to have any info on opening the case.
18. I think there may be a IDE2CF converter that takes the power from the IDE cable. I am waiting on mine so I can not confirm if they work or not. I have seen some of the converters that have a jumper that was selectable from a 3.5" floppy power connector or the bus. It would not be hard to get it from the Atari if you need it. I have looked at some sites about IDE ports and there seems to be no +5 line. there is a +5 connection of the MyIDE cart though. It should be enough for a CF card. Doing it this way, you do not have to have a wire to the Atari. Found on this link
19. About the Atari 8bit... Would a MyIDE with a CF to IDE converter be what you are looking for? I just got two of this and am awaiting a SIO2PC so I can load up the CF card. Its nice to have 1Mbit flash too. I have not been about to fully utilize it since I dont have the converter yet. It would have been optimal if the interface was CF instead of IDE. I would also love to ge a CC2 but its a bit high for me. I got the 7800 in 1995 on ebay for $20 just to play Galaga. If there was a 8bit port, I would not have gotten one.
20. Thanks all for the info. I will probably pick one up then. I found the answer here. I did not find it with my first couple of searches.
21. I was not trying to compare the 2 interfaces. I just needed to know what type of internal drive it was to determine if I could upgrade it with a more current drive. Are they easily upgradeable?
22. I agree. He words it to make us think they are original disks "159 AUTHENTIC DATA DISK" Look at the SHIPPING price too. Also it looks like the lot of books are also in another lot he is selling: Here it is. It looks like he is also selling the software for his Koalapad in this lot
