  1. Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I'm having similar issues and need to replace the 3086 chip in my 1050. My question is, where do I find a new 3086 chip for a 1050 drive? Thanks
  2. Makes sense. I took Tillek's advice and installed SyncTerm today on my Windows PC and it works beautifully. Now if my real hardware isn't nearby, I can use my Windows machine to call out to the ST boards.
  3. Hey dan, I was running Windows 10 at the time, and on Windows 11 now and also think it works on 11 too but can't remember when I last created one using my instructions. As for your second question, I did not add FAT32 as an external partition over in the FDISK because SDX won't see FAT32 partitions. SDX can see FAT16 and read from it. I use the FAT32 partition to copy all my games and programs for the 8-bit from my Windows machine and place it on the FAT32 partition, then when booting I hit "L" to go into the Loader screen and I can see a directory with all the programs on the FAT32 partition (which can be huge, much larger than the 2GB limit that FAT16 has). Before Jeff W. helped me with creating an SD card with all three types of partitions (ie. APT, FAT16, and FAT32), I could only ever find instructions for creating an APT partition with a FAT16, OR an APT partition with FAT32, never both.
  4. Thanks for the info. Given what was said, I'm not going to put much faith in figuring out how to do this. I was mainly looking for a way to call ST BBS's when I'm on the road with my Windows PC and not near my real hardware to be able to call out.
  5. How to set up APT and FAT16 and FAT32 Partitions on SIDE2.docx In case this helps, I have attached a document that I created that explains how to create APT, FAT16, and FAT32 partitions on the same SD card for the SIDE2. I'd imagine it would be similar for the SIDE3, but don't quote me on that. This also uses a Windows 10 PC for certain steps. Thanks to Jeff W. for assistance with this when I was first trying to figure this out. I didn't want to forget anything so I created the attached doc for future reference.
  6. Is it possible to use the Steem Emulator to telnet to BBS's? I have a Windows PC and Steem SSE installed and I can load up the Interlink term program just fine, but I don't know how to configure a modem in the emulator so that it can dial out (telnet) to BBS's. My A8 emulator (Altirra) has the ability to configure ports and modems so I can telnet, so am hoping Steem has something similar? Thanks, Jason
  7. Lots has already been said in the comments above, so apologies if this has already been touched on. But what I found interesting is the difference between the XL series and the XE. Here is the setup: 2 XL machines - 800XL with UAV installed and 1200XL with UAV installed, 2 XE machines - 130XE with UAV installed and 65XE with UAV installed Video cable: Hercules Workshop double-shielded output to S-Video, then plugs into RetroTink 2X Pro, then goes into HDMI on either LCD TV or Dell Monitor So, same video cable, same monitor, UAV in all four machines. When I use the XE machines on either TV or monitor, no jail bars, picture is 100% perfect. When I use the XL machines on either TV or monitor, faint jail bars. They certainly aren't as bad as I've seen in non-UAV machines, but they are still present. What is it about the XL machines that would cause jail bars with all other things being equal?
  8. Hi, I've been using ST-TERM since it has the option for ATASCII, but didn't know Interlink also had it. Whereabouts is the setting? When I look in the Emulation Mode section of Interlink, I see: VT52, ???????, and TRANSLATION. Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the link and the additional context. After thinking about it, perhaps why I'm trying to determine is: Is it worth getting the v1 of CosmosEx? Or any CosmoxEx for that matter if there are any issues with how it functions? Or is it 'good enough' that it would be a good addition to an ST? Thanks.
  10. Thanks this is helpful for comparison. The v1 currently listed on eBay is at $76 with 8 days remaining (2 bids so far). I wouldn't mind having one of these but don't need one so badly that I'll pay a crazy price. Of course, these aren't being manufactured anymore, so that throws a wrench into things and possibly the value of them. It'll be interesting to see where this one ends up. Looking at eBay history I don't see any CosmosEx's ever sold in the last while.
  11. Thanks, yeah that's the one I saw and was thinking about getting as long as the price doesn't go nuts. Just wanted to be certain the original version had similar features to the newer ones and there were no issues/disadvantages with v1 over the others. Given the rarity of them, I'm assuming the price will end up going out of my range.
  12. From reading about CosmosEx, it seems that there were three different versions produced. 1.0, 2.0, and possibly 3.0 Is there any advantage to trying to get a more recent version? For example, is version 1.0 stable enough and works well enough that it would be worth getting if one came along? Or should I avoid version 1.0 and try and find a later version? Thanks, Jason
  13. Would anyone happen to know if an Atari 1050 disk drive with the Happy mod will work fine with an Atari 800 computer? (the 800 with the 4 joystick ports and 48K memory) Are there any disadvantages with using a Happy drive on an 800 as opposed to an XL or XE? Thanks
  14. I have a question with respect to the Brewing Academy's UAV (Ultimate Atari Video) Upgrade. It's mainly out of curiosity more than anything. I'm very happy with the product but am just looking to understand something. My question is this, I have multiple XL machines and multiple XE machines. All machines have UAVs installed in them. I'm using a monitor cable (Hercules Workshop) that connects to the S-Video port on the back of the TV. The displays on all XL and XE machines look great, however, the XL machines show very subtle vertical bars across the screen in certain situations. Such as, when the color of the screen is blue, they are more pronounced. Has anyone else encountered this? The XE machines look perfect on the display; no bars anywhere. As I said, the UAV definitely produces a great display in all cases and the vertical bars are subtle, but I'm just curious as to why the XL machines would not produce the same perfect picture (ie. no vertical bars) as the XEs. Thanks
  15. I've had one of the two small plastic tabs break on me from time to time. I just used a little bit of hot glue to fasten it back on (after I put a new felt pressure pad on it).
