I have posted Doom Patrol 0.6 Work has been done on it to reduce the jitter when running on a Harmony cart. I don't think it's perfect yet. I can't test it.
-
I posted version 5.5 on this link for those with the hardware. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/240879-game-test-on-harmony-cart/
-
Crispy, What are you using for hardware? BTW, thanks for testing this out.
-
So to verify, the DPC+ jitter is now gone, correct? The scanline jitter still remains? I'm pretty sure it would as my counts exceed 262 in some cases, but not by much. How bad is the remaining jitter? rolling screen stuff? Thanks for looking at this.
-
Thanks Turbo, this I did not know. I figured as it ran all the 2600 and 7800 games it would handle DPC+, but it might not have been around when the cart was made. Good info.
-
Agree. It would also make testing more accurate for all involved.
-
I have make some changes to make the code faster. It still needs some work to stay at 262. I have also added DFxFRACINC code before the drawscreen command. If you wish see if this one is any better. Doom Patrol-0.5.5.bin

Thanks much for trying this out guys. For those that are interested in this, look at the following link: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/240879-game-test-on-harmony-cart/ I have not tried it on the Cuttle cart yet. I have the code out now and I'm making changes so expect a new version soon. I hope to fix this issue without having to rip stuff out. I have a problem with posting a new game and then going right into making another one. Guess I should not do that.
-
So will this change be an option in Stella or on by default? I can imagine lots of homebrews suddenly becoming jittery if it's the default (well at least some of mine anyway). I would post the source but it's pretty ugly
-
Thanks for all the info Crispy, Spiceware and RevEng. I plan on pulling up the game code again and taking a look to see if I can either rip something out or improve the code. I've been working on a new game which seems to be a problem with me. Pop one out, then move on to the next one. Before I even look I know I do not execute the DFxFRACINC before a drawscreen in main. Somehow I had missed that big note on the batari commands page (Doh!). Spice I would try your Stella build but no OS X in the house It is a good idea to make Stella much more like a real 2600 though. I toyed with the idea of releasing a Stella and a 2600 hardware based version of the same game.

No idea BrainC, I was just relaying what I read on the Harmony web site. Just checked the game. It's at the proper 262 scan lines with the exception where the four UFO's come in. There it goes to 263 just for a fraction of a second, then backs down to 262. I could go dig up my Cuttle Cart II but that would not prove anything with the Harmony cart. Guess the other choice is to purchase a Harmony cart. Does anyone know how close they are to releasing the 7800 version?
-
Thanks for trying it out BrianC. I don't have a Harmony cart but I was reading that sometimes it can get confused at the auto detection process on the type of game it is. This failure can result in weird patterns being displayed on the screen. Could you or Turbo-Torch rename the game name extension from .bin to .dpc and see if it makes any difference? Looks like they also have firmware updates to the Harmony cart. Are you guys running the latest version?
-
One of the players using this game is having problems with odd screen jitters during the entire game. Can someone else with a Harmony please test this and reply? Game is at: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/240179-doom-patrol/ Thanks much!
-
Hey Turbo-Torch, could you try this game on your setup and see if it's all jittery too? http://atariage.com/forums/topic/238143-orb/ At this point, I'm just not sure why this is happening. Glad you like the game though!
-
Thanks. Figured you would like that neotokeo2001

Alright here you go. Doom Patrol 0.5 ..... Put in A Difficulty which is a bit of an easier game. It removes the random wall defense and the gray background bars. Of course in Stella you just hit F5 to set difficulty A before you hit the fire button at the games title screen. See download on announcement screen.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Is version 0.4 any different? There were some changes made to it. Weird thing about that video is even the title screen looked to jitter and it locked right in the correct count.
