  1. Thought I would post my very first Atari 2600 game made with batari. Doing this taught me a little bit and made me appreciate more than ever the great coders from the past and on this web site. This game is a 4k game (I didn't use it all). I did this one in about a week of part time work so there could be all sorts of errors. If you try it out let me know. I used the standard kernel but I think I will try my hand at the DPC+ kernel next. The setup. On the planet Uttertopia destructive mutant cows began appearing and eating all the trees. Alarmed, the inhabitants of the planet mounted an attack to wipe them out before all was lost. Your briefing: You will have three ships to complete the task. If you fight well we will have enough time to provide a re-enforcement. The mutant cows have developed an outer shell on their bodies that are impervious to our firepower. It has been discovered the only way to destroy one is to hit it at a soft spot on the head. Because of methane gas buildup our ship engines will not be able to enter the lower atmosphere as time progresses. The cow will run by the tree and eat some of it. If the cow eats the entire tree then methane gas will build even more. If the cow eats 4 trees too much methane will be generated and your ship will crash. The status bar on the bottom right will indicate how many trees have been destroyed. If your ship is shot down there is still a chance to take out one more cow by crashing upon the deadly mutant cow. There are rumors the mutant cows have developed a SOB weapon in addition to their deadly cowpies. Proceed with caution! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for the comments. I have made suggested improvements to the cowpies movement. Also added Methane buildup effect on the players ship. Player crash updates. Now possible to hit a cow during a ship crash. Added a 4th level. It gets pretty difficult for me here. Let me know what you think. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 0.3 adds changes to playfield, some audio changes, scoring adjustments, enemy AI (if you can call it that) changes. Progress to next level at 1000 points. Crash on cow is now worth 500 points. Let me know if there are issues. Thanks! Version 0.4 adds trees (well actually tree). The cow will run by the tree and eat some of it. If the cow eats the entire tree then methane gas will build even more. If the cow eats 4 trees too much methane will be generated and your ship will crash. The status bar on the bottom right will indicate how many trees have been destroyed. cow-0.5.bin cow-0.2.bas.bin cow-0.3.bas.bin cow-0.4.bin
  2. Amazing work Bob!!! Love these games!!! Long ago I contacted Gary Stern to ask if they still held the rights to Berzerk and would they be interested in a remake on the Xbox 360. His answer was yes, we hold the rights and no we have no interest. At that time there were a few classic remakes coming out on the 360. Never understood why he had no interest in this, but hey, I do love his pinballs. Once again with gusto .. Great work Bob!!!!
  3. Made a little progress. Added the file exit key as Esc. So it's easy to test dumps and use the keyboard to exit quickly. Now if I could only map that to the xbox joystick My goal is control via joystick only. The mapper selection is a stopper though.
  4. Wow, thats for the quick reply. I got the xbox controller mapped and it worked perfect the first time. Of course on some game like missle command it's just not playable but for a lot of games it work great. The Mala front end exec line looked like this - /hardware:5200 /f /cartmapper 19 "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" That lead me to some other issues.. Not all of the dumps use cartmapper 19. Is there anyway I can sign them to pick the proper mapper? I'm guessing not. The other issue I have is I can't map the xbox to quit the program so it will return to Mala. So it's Alt-enter followed by alt-f-x. I could see no way of doing this with the controller. Thanks much for the help. I've been working on this Mala thing for about a week. Have a lot of different emulators working great with it.
  5. Very nice! Thanks a bunch for all your hard work! In my quest for a 5200 emulator that works with a joystick properly, I have a question... Is it possible to use a wireless XBOX 360 controller with the 5200 emulation. I've tried it and almost nothing works. I tried remapping them but still no love. I know it's seeing the controller because one of the triggers speeds up the emulation. On the 800 emulation the stick works almost always. Also Is it possible to feed command line values on execution to this program, like full screen (alt-enter) and the machine type and program to load? I keep trying to get all my emulators within the Mala front end
  6. Atari Arcade Duo-powered joystick for iPad. http://reviews.cnet.com/home-entertainment/atari-arcade-duo-powered/4505-6449_7-35022508.html?part=rss&subj=latestreviews&tag=title&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+cnet%2FYIff+%28CNET+Latest+Reviews%29&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher
  7. I would assume the CC2 works alright with the expansion?
  8. Lord Of The Rings MMORPG.. hooked.... You haven't lived until you play Frogger online with someone on the Xbox 360 live arcade!!!
  9. OK, lets see.... Plays 2600, 7800, and 5200 games... Includes some of the best for each system (5200 would be a problem with joystick routines.). If 5200 conversion is too much, replace 5200 with 800xl. Plenty of good games there (must have M.U.L.E. if going in this direction). Also lots of the 5200 games are on the 800xl anyway. I want a GOOD joystick, that has a pause button built into it (at least for 7800 and 5200 games). I built one for the 7800 using a Radica Space Invaders TV game stick (with out the pause). I used some instructions on this site (can't remember who did it first). Anyway it and a CC2 cart makes playing the 7800 a real joy. So the FB3 should have a GOOD joystick. It would be super nice if it had a memory stick to add games to it, in addition to some of the great included games from the authors on this site.... Atari Interactive ea.... You could purchase an original .bin file from this site for download to the beast. A nice menu that would show cart graphics would also be a nice touch. The add on memory stick would be a customer purchased item. Small in size, designed in the old Atari tradition but with a nice blue power LED. If it is a portable (hope not), it must be able to hook to the TV (good cable length) and have a jack for a real joystick (or two). It must also have a AC wall wart. If I'm going to dream, let it also play Vectrex games (just kidding, this would get you into emulation land, unless.....) Better stop now.. starting to get silly
  10. Sorry... Someone else already added this bit of news....
  11. The 2600 in primetime TV land! On tonights episode of Earl (on NBC), there was a scene where one of the characters was playing the 2600 Bezerk (the Crabman) game. He had a Bezerker hall of fame wall that conisted of pictures with his high score written on them. Made my day
  12. I made one. It was easy and works great. The only way to play Kaboom! One half of a 2600 paddle controller was forced to give it's life for the project but it was well worth it. For a picture, just look at the ResQsoft 5200 link above.
  13. I have one and it works great, although I haven't had it for an extended period of time, so it's too early for me to say just how long they last. It is supposed to be the final fix for the controller. I got the parts from Best Electronics. http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/5200.htm They were a pleasure to deal with.
  14. Great post! Thanks. Looks like the 7800 could have been a major player if things had worked out differently.
  15. Do you know if the company went under when Atari (Tramiel) no longer wanted to work with them? It's funny, I've read for years about GCC developing this and that for Atari, but I never have read anything about who they were and what happened to the company. Does anyone know if they did work for anyone else besides Atari?
  16. Seeing that General Computer Corporation designed the 7800, does anyone know their history?
