  1. For some unknown reason, Qix on my 5200 always freaked me out - I mean it's just a spinning line, but the amount of anxiety that game caused me was ridiculous. As for non-Atari, definitely Sinistar at the arcade (when his workers completed assembling him - I just wanted to run straight out of the arcade). Berserk with that smiley Evil Otto was similar. The tops for me though goosebump-wise was Dungeons of Daggorath on the Coco. Nothing has ever come close to that one for some reason. My kids were terrified of Shadowgate on my Mac - it elicited some sort of morbid curiosity, since they wanted me to start the game, then ran away when the "floating eyes" appeared!
  2. Ok, one board left now...just wanted to point out that because these boards don't have an onboard pot to adjust phase, your NTSC monitor has to have tint control to accurately calibrate colours - that excludes many composite and s-video-to-HDMI converters (I'll update the online docs to reflect that). Between tint and the onboard Atari colour adjustment pot (which isn't bypassed by this mod) you can end up with fairly accurate colours. Also, games that rely on artifact colour will display in B&W via s-video, but work as expected using the composite output. I've included a photo from my phone after I roughly calibrated the mod.
  3. Ok, two boards already spoken for - two to go... Note that this board can also add s-video to older 800XL units that don't have chroma connected (although I didn't test or investigate RedHawk668's claim).
  4. Haha - fair enough; my flight from London to Rome was shorter than most flights in Canada! I should point out that I'd happily mail someone a board gratis if they'd like to populate it - it doesn't make sense to wait a couple of months for 5 boards from Chinese suppliers. I'd populate the board as well, but it's a tricky install - most people who could install the board can also solder SMD.
  5. Done - thanks for the reminder - just created the account, so I didn't even look at my own profile. Thinking I'm a bit far from you to pop by and pick up a board
  6. Hi everyone, Not sure if Redhawk666 is still active here, but I built his brilliant SMD s-video/composite board and installed in in my NTSC 600XL - and expanded his installation instructions to boot. Here's my fork of his project (I've opened a pull request, but not sure if he's actively looking at GitHub to merge my instructions). I've included an image and screenshot below - amazingly clear and interference-free picture that could easily be fed into an s-video-to-HDMI converter (my old monitor has an s-video input). I also had to order 5 boards from my supplier, but can only use one, so I'm wondering what to do with the other four? You really have to be adept at SMD soldering (and desoldering - haha), since the diode is SOD-323 (each pad is 0.4mm wide), but I'm thinking there may be people here who can build and use a board for their machine? Please let me know what you think of the guide, and if this is useful. Thanks, Andrew
