  1. I'm actually surprised that I've had high success with my VCS on HDTVs without modding them. When I'm home from school, it works well with our new widescreen, and at school in the AFROTC lounge, we have a big screen HDTV and it works fine on that one too; so long as the lights are off/the room is dark. It took me a while to figure out 'cause the thing has so many features, trying to figure out how to just go directly thru the cable-in line was a pain, but I did get it to work eventually.
  2. Works on both my Light 6'er and Heavy 6'er; not sure why it wouldn't work on everyone elses.
  3. 1 Heavy Sixer (on the list) 1 Light Sixer
  4. When I first got MCTB I had a similar problems due to a mis-labeled Trakball. I had a CX-22 internally which externally was built like a CX-80 and was labeled as such. My MCTB cart wasn't working, and I was baffled as it was labeled For use with CX-80. Eventually, with some help, I got it figured out and got a CX-22 version of the game for my CX-22 in disguise. Game's worked fine ever since; I like it a lot better than the original Missile Command on the Joystick or the TrakBall in Joystick mode; score a lot higher and the gameplay is a lot better in my opinion.
  5. Only other homebrew is MCTB. Guess I'll contact Al. Thanks for all your help.
  6. Tomcat, Missile Command TB, Defender II, River Raid II, Space Shuttle; those are really my late release/HB games. All of those work.
  7. Well, I checked it by plugging in some other carts. My other games seem to work fine; but I'm not sure which of the other games I have may be referred to as "large, bankswitching" games.
  8. Well, screen goes black, with the last note playing or flat-lining from when the screen was projecting the picture.
  9. Hey all, I recieved Thrust+ Platinum a few weeks back, but thanks to my thesis/finals haven't really been able to test it until just recently. I ran into a problem upon power up; the game starts, but then cuts out about a half-second into the start screen. I read through the manual and checked the switch settings. Making sure it was set to NTSC and not pause, I tried again. Nothing. I tried PAL just for the sake of it, it still projected the picture for a half second and cut. I'd estimate its broken, but is it possible I'm still doing something wrong? I've been testing it on my light-sixer. Thanks for any replies.
  10. Activision, no question for me. Almost all of my favorite games came from them.
  11. 1.) Kaboom! 2.) Space Invaders 3.) Combat 4.) River Raid II 5.) Freeway 6.) Pitfall 7.) Defender II 8.) Joust 9.) Centipede 10.) Atlantis
  12. Okay, I finally got some time and looked further into the issue; apparently, my CX80 is likely a model designed to be compatible with the CX22 and not the ST Mouse; so I'm guessing if I opened it, it would be missing some jumpers. Someone on here had the same problem ~5 years ago, evidentally. I probably need a CX22-compatible copy of the game. Thanks for the assistance.
  13. Well, I've read through some of the posts on similar issues, but haven't had any time to take any actions or troubleshoot yet; the week's been busier than usual. Thanks for checking up on me; the earliest I'll be able to make more progress is likely after Tuesday...confounded dissertation... Thanks again.
  14. Wow, I just checked the game info for MCTB; 3 NTSC variants. I'm guessing there is a mismatch somewhere, as you reccomend. The game cart says for CX-80 Trak-Ball. All of my documentation says the Trak-Ball I own is CX-80, and it is the all-black setup, rather than the CX-22's varied color set. Maybe it's a CX-22 game with CX-80 markings? Thanks again for your assistance.
  15. Good Afternoon all, I recently picked up a copy of Missile Command TB to use with my CX-80 Trak-Ball controller. Unfortunately, when I began play, the target pipper would not respond to the ball's movements properly; it would just jitter around the starting location on the screen. Initially, I suspected the Trak-Ball controller to be the issue. I checked to be sure it was pluged in completely to the VCS, then tried again. No joy, same problem. I then checked it against the original Missile Command and Centipede on "JS" setting and it worked fine. After trying the "JS" setting on Missile Command TB, and then with "TB" selected again, I still had no success. I'm guessing that the game's ROM might be bad? Anyone else run into this and find a fix, or do I just have to get a new copy? Thanks in advance to any replies.
  16. For me, technologically, it's gotta be Tomcat: The F-14 Simulator. The features built into the game I thought were quite amazing; especially for a console flight sim (landing gear, radar modes, weapon selection, et cetera; stuff you don't find in most modern console sims) and the fact that it was this advanced back in 1988! I am also quite impressed by Kaboom! Being that, it is such a simple concept, but the replay value is so great. If I have the time on some weekends, I can play Kaboom! alone for hours on end. Pretty impressive in my book.
  17. I'm 21, a little on the late side for the VCS, but in fact, it was my first system, and I do have memories of getting wrecked in Combat by my older brother. The VCS still remains my favorite system.
  18. My only 5+ is River Raid II (R6) in box, with all documentation.
  19. Great topic. I've slowly but surely been peeking interest with the VCS to my friends over the years. During breaks from college some of my buddies and I will get VCS tourneys going, usually Kaboom! takes up most of this time, though Space Invaders and Freeway rank up there too. Some of the funniest stuff that happens is when people watch us play Kaboom! as we hit levels 7 and 8. "How the hell can you do that?"
  20. I keep mine on file on my computer. Takes up less space.
  21. Hey all, I've visited this site and the forums quite a bit but this'll be my first post. I'm currently operating 2 VCS's, one CX-2600 Heavy and a later CX-2600 6-switch. Just to add one more to the list, my Heavy's S/N is: 55274G It's an older model, hardwired to ch. 3. Have a good one.
