Hi, I noticed that a few months ago. Its interesting to note, that the screenshots are at a higher resolution than the Jaguar can actually manage, but in fairness Indiana Jags screenshots on Justclaws site are of a even higher resolution still! SO maybe my objections aren't that reasonable? Wehn I resized them to Jag standard sixe, they did show no loss in quality however. They are totally different to the few screenshots of the game that we saw before, which were fuzzy and naff - we know Atari scrapped the project and started from scratch. A Rayman beater anyone ? Looks it and a definate 4mb cart too.
  2. Fantastic ! Its great to see a new game on the Jag, and more importantly there are so few multi player games on the machine bring em on!!!! I agree whole heartedly with Starcats comments, and without kissing behinds, really does show a wisdom that belies his years. If anyone criticises your projects that are up and running -let's see their credentials - what have they done ? I showed a friend one of the new Jag releases (no name - but there aren't many to choose from) and he laughed at it! " I can do better than that " to which I replied "Lets se you then." We certainly have been there but, to speak - LEts call a spade a spade, basically we're not going to see anybody top the likes of Battlesphere or AVP technically - and thats a fact we're just going to have to accept. Get over it! I have more pleasure out of some Spectrum games like Rambo than most X box titles!!!!!!!!!! Its for fun that we all became gamers in the first place! ANY game on the Jaguar, is more than a welcome addition! The fact is that you Justclaws, have walked the walk - most people dont even try and then complain that a) something can't be done - or that your works not good enough. We have a shortage of titles and your game looks good! I would be nice to see more titles, and we really could use them. But things look good at the present for the Jaguar - but we will have to wait and see. the maths are simple, 0 + 0 is a whole nothing. When you add 1 ( a new title) it opens up a whole new realm of enjoyment. Now, time to dust off my Jag.................... Congratulations Justclaws, have a beer on me- but if you ever see me - you better run darn fast to get the money out of me for it though!!!
  3. There are so many games that we are lacking ont he Jaguar, but a link up FPS would truly ROCK! Maybe a motorbike racing game like Road Rash, but really we would I feel, prefer a Jag link up FPS - something terrifying would truly rock. SpaceHulk on 3DO (not the lame Saturn/PS versions) scares us senseless. I'd definately go for a link up FPS , imagine the fun!!!!!!!! Can't suggest anything else because you cant top that!!! But as earlier suggested - your ideas will no doubt rock. Shigeru Miyamoto said that Pokemons great playability and success was down to the fact that is was a work of love - what its creator desired rather than what he thought people wanted. Nothing ever stippled creativity more - as Head over Heals creator often states.
  4. Its a dissapointment because of the lack of success of the base unit, that any add on would subsequently be even less successful, so naturally the Jag CD would never reach its potential. A nice sequel to AVP certainly wouldn't go amiss, the CD storage would mean a wealth of texture, ane even new environments could be added to the game. For example, panels and switchs to hide new area, stairs, maybe even a few human survivors (although that could be crammed into a cart - possibly bearing in mind AVP was a whopping 14 MB) THe CD really is best suited to adventures. A haunting soundtrack, high colour images - wow you really could go for it, with an adventure the performance wouldn't be stretched like say Rayman and we could see high res locations. I think Eerievale is a step in the right direction, but the lack of success of the beast always means a smaller environment than say the DreamCast and if your game is finished in say 24 months, how big of a community will you be releasing it to? Sad to say, it doesnt look promising. The Jag has got for its user base fantastic support however. Its always a huge boost to see something new.
  5. It's really fun, the excitement, the anticipation. Could it be a ) this b) that c) something we've not seen? There is a shortage of good games in too many catergories. Top down shoot em ups Side scrolling shootemups/ platformers (althoug Rayman is untouchable) Sports titles Beat em ups Adventures/ puzzle games Racing games esp motorbike (we only have one) Fortunately puzzlegames are coming on a treat thanks to Matthias! Songbird seems to have a habit of releasing old/lost games so we could really be onto a treat. It definately is NOT Dactyl Joust as Carl has publicly denied this (seeing as the video is available through Songbird apparently this would seem possible) Who would have thought that Rebellions lost game would appear through Songbird? What a treat! We can only debate what it might be and that's much more fun than knowing! The anticipation is ace! But, a good tennis game would be a dream come true. Handmade didn't do too bad technically with Katsumi Ninja, so a good remake of Jimmy Connors could be unbearably good. Still, gives us something to talk about and a reason to hope. Good on you Carl.
  6. HOLD ON A MINUTE. I dont think this is going to help!!!! TK2 and the crew have a vision. Visions take time. To quote Joel Wallach 1993 Nobel Prize Nomminee- " The impossible just takes that little bit longer". Now Lan Di DID have work on - I've seen it, I've been involved - (naturally the reason it was doomed to failure from the start! hee, hee) Now, we were so close to saying " stuff the Jaguar community. Memories [ his premier project] (which was progressing nicely until the accident!!!)was NOT going to be released to the Jaguar communtiy as a two fingered gesture. And his other project one of which NIGHTs (not to be confused with SonicTeams awesome effort) barely existed aside from the high colour art and animations were also likely to suffer the same fate. ". Now, if any mention is made of Lan Dis work - is everyone going to say "Oh I don't think it exists?". Because, that DOESN'T HELP! In the end of the day - it only serves to discourage someone who may go elsewhere or give up. I don't think the boys reading that is going to help one bit. The man has a dream. He may well make it - lets be positive. Becqause you may have just done something terrible. I'm all for freedom of expression but treading on a mans work and dreams does not help matters. I remember Lan questioning the guy with " I dont believe you" a long time ago, and really that was also very foolish !!!!!!!11 Anyone who has done anything worthwhile will tell you there will be stumblings, and disappointments along the way. An ancient chinese proverb says that "One should be afraid not of moving slowly, but standing still.". Haven't you heard that every journey begins with the first step? Mel Gibson describes failure as college fees one has to pay as one goes through life, but the important point is to remember that there is no failure (As a rule) only feedback. It is a natural thing that we don't always come through in what we do. Of all the people who say want to write a book, only a small fraction will A) Finish it B) Write something worth writing C) Get it published . Of course, games are a completely different kettle of fish. I'm sorry, I don't think this post helps anyone - least of all Metro Blasters developers. I say yes - bring it on. The man is trying hard and that is to me, as good as him acheiving his goal. He hasn't run away. Society needs more people willing to go for their dreams. To quote Sylvester Stallone in a scene from Rocky IV " The only difference between a hero and a coward is that the heros willing to go for it.". Shame on whoever started this post. I am disgusted. Im sorry to be so blunt and almost hurtful - but..........
  7. I can see your point. I think that, I had many problems. I started out with a PC, running win 95 with 8MB ram, 1 GB Harddrive, which was not enough to run the PDFs or anything on the libraries. I then bought a 'new' PC, and got a copy of Win ME. For months ridiculous errors plagued me, until Starcat suggested WinME was the problem - it was( I wrote my first arcade game in Spectrum Basic aged 10- which was rubbish but it worked. I'd skive off college and write programs in C and install them fully working on their systems instead of doing my work!) I could not even compile small C programmes and little bugs you should get when autoexec isn't properly configured - I never got. Obviously, Win 2000/ME aren't configured for Jag (Dos) and 2000 is I feel very expensive, so I bought a new copy of win 98. The 98 disk was older than the hardware in my PC so I could only get 16 colours and no sound - NOT an environment for JAguar coding unless you're aiming for tosh. So I moved to Linux ( a massive headache). I use BJL. But where the art is concerned, the costs CAN rocket. I am looking at differing methods - and the cost of materials can get scary and intimidating. IT IS a hobby after all. In brief, I feel it can get expensive and out of hand. If you are using pencil ( GIVE ME A CALL!!!!! [email protected] - I'm great!!!!!!) I can see where you're coming from. But, look back. If you take your CV - in a short time you can add something most people can only dream of to it.
  8. That is an interesting question. I remember the rumours that the Jaguar was in development. I couldn't wait, Atari had made awesome games for the Lynx, but had suffered due to three fatal flaws: 1) High price - the Lynx was was too expensive till it dropped to 80 ! 2) Insufficient software - The games rocked big time. Nothing on rival handhelds could touch it. Ninja Gaiden and Blue Lightening were as good as their sixteen bit equilevents, even better. But there were too few and they were too long in coming. 3) Low resolution - This I believe is the biggest reason for the failure of the Lynx. Most people thought it was cr*p till they used one. The Lynx actually has the lowest resolution out of all the handhelds at the time, significantly less than the Gameboy. This led to the games looking blocky. And naturally the GameGear with a higher resolution and double the on screen colours, looked to the causal obserber to be a better machine. They were of course - wrong. Now, obviously it goes without saying a big firm like Atari learned their lesson. You've made a mistake. Its cost you heavy. Games eventually sell less than 10,000 units each (FACT) How many games were available for the Jaguar to start? How many games were actually very good? What about the game Zool. Amiga identical conversion of a graphically lacklustre Amiga game with horrific slowdown. Need I say anymore. Expectations were too high with the Jaguar. It never stood a chance. A financial disaster Atari hafd become by the Jaguars time. They never stood a chance.
  9. Hello everyone! There are a few lists, I think there is one on Atarijaguar.net , but they atre all old and not recently updated, displaying for example games we all know to be cancelled. I know Matthias is working on three products which all look very nice and will be released on CD Starcat is working on two productas Star Alliance and of course Eerievale. Terrence Trent is working on three products - MightyFrog, Go earth gods troopers, and Mad Bodies TK2 freeker is working on Metro Blaster Frog feast is also on its way Songbird productions have two mystery Jag releases looming, its worth noting that songbird usually release "D games that were considered lost. We also know several people are working on the Jag and practising with code, so there will be much to see, but a lot of Jaguar programmers(and this will get me slagged off) ARE switching to the Dreamcast. And yes, LanDi is working on two Jag projects, neither of which may appear due to his illness and other problems- but one I can tell you is a JAG reworking of paper scissors stone he was hoping to get out an early version in October but ..............
  10. It loks excellent. I own a Dreamcast, and would welcome this title, I'm definately interested in purchasing a copy. However, have the Goat Store considered a compilation of homebrew titles on one disk, I gotta say I would not mind playing Alice (44MB adventure game) on my DC
  11. I am making Jaguar screens, and hopefully all will be Jag versions running, (Im dreaming a little here but it would be great to have little animated pieces but , it just isn't practical due to time constraints) The images will all be Jag shots, its a very exciting project and I'm actually quite pleased with it. I am hoping to do some Ray tracing along with it all.
  12. First thing you're going to need is the Starcat development CD, without it you will not be able to code the custom chips (blitter,GPU ,etc) Assembly language is important, it looks very daunting, but after you've started to learn it you'll find the opposite is true. You can however, code in C. I have a GPU/DSP official C compiler, but I need the official Atari (main) Compiler. Linking to files from your C main code looks a little tough but I havent got that far yet. You will need a custom build cable to download code from the PC to the JAGUAR (which many electronic stores can make for you) and a BJL or similar(behind Jaggy Lines) which incidentally is built into the SE version of protector so you wont need to modify your Jag. Hope this helps Invest your time and relax and enjoy it is my advice.
  13. Hi, I'm beavering away on some Jaguar artwork, and may need to produce some 3D art in the very near future, a little horrifying to say the least. What software packages, both 2D and 3D does everyone like best?
  14. Looks awesome, at last a truly cool Xbox game (play SWars Battlefront)
  15. I am using WinME, with Dosbox emulation. My paths are set as described in getting started.pdf (with drive c instead of e), and are output onto the msdos screen just above the madmac box when I run the program- so they're set. I use mac -fb -g (program.s) or without the mac and I get cannot open (program.s) messages and cannot open 'jaguar.inc'. If it keeps on I'm going to defect!
  16. Lars, one title I thought looked rather promising was Jagworm, or whatever it was called that you were working on, what has happened to it?
  17. You know I would love to see a Jag conversion of Jimmy Whites Snooker, with high colour ray traced graphics. Its a little dream of mine, it was such a good game, but who knows? There is one game I have my eye on in particular, so it's worth learning the ropes.
  18. The problem is that antime I try to compile with madmac it can't open my file or can't include jaguar.inc . I have set my paths as described in gettingstarted.pdf . I can't see where I'm going wrong. Its VERY frustrating. Funny I work now with ASM because I have still problem, let's say no succes with C What's the problem? I started with the starcat dev lib and I must say it's a good start, I managed to write some nice code now and it's grows currently into a nice little program.
  19. Well, the are so many lost Lynx games ( I heard rumours of a Blue Lightening 2) but you picked a decent selection. Guardians storm over Doria looked good in screenshot, but I had to pump for RC demolishion. With good scrolling and right sized sprites it could be a serious laugh.
  20. The biggest problem is that homebrew Lynx games can't be bigger than the RAM, which is a generous 64kb ,compared to about 2 on the Gameboy. It isn't too difficult, you can code in C on the Lynx. Still new games coming out though. Check songbirds website for something that's been sorely lacking.
  21. Ninja Gaiden and Lemmings both retail for 100 pounds (UK) new. I recently picked Ninja Gaiden up for a fiver(s/h), didn't inform the vendor they could ask significantly more for it.
  22. I've been on and off the Jaguar scene for about three years(more off than on) and am trying to configure a development enviromnet (thanks to Starcat I've made a little progress) but am still getting cannot open file messages. What have you had the most success with. I've had a little success with C, more than assembly langugae anyhow. Cheers.
  23. Just wanted to say , 'crazy voices' Defender 2000 rocks!!! "Cheers Mate" is a huge quality sample, the screams, the music. It even has a remixed Beethovan track and the men all stand in line and dance to the (awesome) music at the end of the level, waving their arms about. It's got a hidden version of plasma PONG in there, a mad level with Llamas and sheep, all I can say is if you don't have this game then shame on you!! And keep your hands off, I need a new copy myself. So stay away! Cheers Mate (s)
