  1. Good point. Might pick a copy and keep it sealed if I can find it for under ten bucks. It's twenty new; and there's no way there will be a big demand. What the hell is this about Rune Factory being worth a hundred bucks? I paid like fourteen, not that long ago, and it ain't that great. Little runey bastards; I let 'em all die so I wouldn't have to bother with them, and it turns out that wasn't an option.
  2. Wait, C Vs. SNK 2 over Garou MOTW? Even with the roll cancels and such, and the EO version kind of mucking it up? Interesting. Edit: am I thinking of 1?
  3. The Tales of Symphonia alone is worth the $12. Good port from the Dreamcast. Guwah? Pretty sure symphonia is a GCN original. Maybe you're thinking of Skies of Arcadia Legends, DC ported to GCN?
  4. I am kind of in a symphonia mood right now.. playing arc rise, that's why
  5. Yeah, Galaxy is still worth fifty I think, but it is pretty amazing how long those first party prices hold, and even the secondary market seems to hold close, too. It almost makes me just give up and buy the big nintendo titles new at first release, rather than wait six months for the used price to drop to ten bucks below the new price. My question is... Wii sports? WTF? It was a packin! Who had a wii but didn't have Wii sports? And anybody who DID have a wii without wii sports would be better off buying the old sleeve copy for five bucks than a new box copy for twenty.
  6. I think it means there's a potato chip in there. Does anybody else have that? Not me.
  7. Basically, this is my free-time fun-time priority structure: 1. Bedroom activities and/or associated relationship time 2. Fencing 3. D&D 4. Writing/music/misc creative 5. Playing videogames So, if I get divorced, can't find sparring partners and quit fencing, my D&D group breaks up, and I sell my guitars and equipment and stop doing all creative activities then I will basically be playing videogames in ALL of my spare time. I work 32 hours a week, plus four hours for driving, so 36; I sleep about eight hours a day - 8x7=56, so we're up to 92 hours, plus probably an hour a day for hygiene and bathroom, so 99 hours of my week are taken up by necessary activities. There are 168 hours in a week; so I could hypothetically play games for 69 hours a week in this situation, almost ten hours a day on average. If I managed to sleep six hours a day, I could spend literally half of my time playing videogames.
  8. Also; Early in the morning, risin' to the street Light me up that cigarette and I strap shoes on my feet Got to find a reason, a reason things went wrong Got to find a reason why my money's all gone I got a dalmation, and I can still get high I can play the guitar like a mother fucking riot Well, life is (too short), so love the one you got 'Cause you might get runover or you might get shot Never start no static I just get it off my chest Never had to battle with no bulletproof vest Take a small example, take a tip from me Take all of your money, give it all to charity Love is what I got It's within my reach And the Sublime style's still straight from Long Beach It all comes back to you, you'll finally get what you deserve Try and test that you're bound to get served Love's what I got Don't start a riot You'll feel it when the dance gets hot Lovin', is what I got, I said remember that Lovin', is what I got, I said remember that Lovin', is what I got, I said remember that Lovin', is what I got (That's) why I don't cry when my dog runs away I don't get angry at the bills I have to pay I don't get angry when my Mom smokes pot Hits the bottle and goes right to the rock Fuckin' and fightin', it's all the same Livin' with Louie dog's the only way to stay sane Let the lovin', let the lovin' come back to me Lovin', is what I got, I said remember that Lovin', is what I got, I said remember that Lovin', is what I got, I said remember that Lovin', is what I got, I got I got I got
  9. I don't drink, but I understand that there is a thing called "Bear" in Germany which is very popular. For me, though, I would enjoy the opportunity to learn german rapier in the fashion of Meyer and others in a more authentic context; maybe some museums or somethin'.
  10. I went through a period of depression during which I was far too anhedonic to play videogames. That shit was SAD, like a stoner who wants to smoke up but is too unmotivated to roll one. You know it's bad when even escapism is too much to handle. Usually, I go through phases with certain systems, all NES for a while, etc. Most of my game-time goes into classic or new JRPG's, or maybe Arpg's like LoZ titles and knockoffs; I mean, that's normal, you generally need to toss at bare minimum 30 hours into one of those kinds of games to beat it, and 30 hours of practice is enough to get pretty far in old-timey non-saveable games. I felt like I was pretty good at Ikaruga, and that I had played it a lot, but I hadn't hit 30 hours or even close yet when I checked the counter. I play through them slowly and tend to overlevel as well as save items beyond what is reasonable, there are a lot of timers maxed out at 99 hours. I have an FF3 cart with all of the saved games maxed (and most of the characters in them maxed in level, too.. wow) I probably play for as many as twenty hours a week when I'm into an RPG, usually for four or so hours at a time, then i'll have a few weeks where I am just busy with other stuff, fun or serious, and not touch anything. Another thing about playing RPG's for extended amounts of time is that you're not always paying 100% attention to the game like you would with a fighter or shmup; sometimes you are cooking or even reading a book and just level grinding with the occasional glance at the screen. All told, though, this year I probably played videogames less than any previous year save those that I lived prior to HAVING games. When I lived down in Oklahoma, it was a constant thing, since life was so boring there. Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Ikaruga, Chaos Field, Samurai Shodwon and Guilty Gear accent core. My doctor made me quit Showdown, though... blood pressure. Now that I'm back up here in CT I have more non-game interests which take up time, like fencing, fine cheeses, leatherwork, art, singing, poetry, guitar, piano and typing huge walls of text on atariage.
  11. Hm. Always thought duck and plumber was an Italian recipe, not Mexican... I guess there's more diversity to cuisine than we tend to think.
  12. Maybe the rule should read "no politics, religion, or complaints about hardware homebrew project release date delays.." seems to be a big theme lately.
  13. yeah, that significantly improved my already-positive impression of the Pokemon-themed N64
  14. I disagree. I don't like pokemon OR the N64 very much, but I feel they combine rather nicely.
  15. Yeah. I don't really trust it, to be honest. I only turn it on if there's like something new to see that looks like it'd be really cool, and then only for a few seconds. I've showed 3-d pictures to some of my residents (nursing home) and a few of them have tried to like, feel if they were actually raised.
  16. Neat. I saw a lot there... I forget exactly, but verse, bane, mdc, i think set your goals, what feeds the fire... that kind of stuff. The various lupo locations also. I also have a fair amount of records that armageddon stocks already (from other places, mostly), they have a good selection - haven't been in five years or so.
  17. Wait, I thought you lived in Maine? Providence has some good stuff. Ever been to AS220 for any shows or anything?
  18. I should mention that I rarely use the 3-d for very long, because it hurts my eyes. Even a few minutes AFTER using it for a few minutes, I have actual pain in my eyes. That... doesn't seem right.
  19. hey, just list some bands you're into (that are reasonably on vinyl), and I can check out flea markets. They tend to be 2$ or so, and I coudl pick up stuff and just charge what I paid and shipping. Thousands of records around here, literally.
  20. man, I have way too many records. My record collection is probably better than my game one... never keep doubles, though, and don't keep ones I don't love (anymore). Any serious beatles record collectors around? I have something I need to let go of pretty soon; I think.
  21. ...and then we'll all get naked and sing "This Land is Your Land." well, see, yes - maybe people in your group of friends want to do that; but people elsewhere will be doing more of their own things. That's the idea.
  22. In the future I'm dreaming of, the dominant cultural forces, both dark side and light side, and big media's monopoly on information and culture is destroyed when it is underbid and outsold by locally generated media of greater quality. Essentially, national acts in music, Triple-A big studio games, nationwide dance crazes, world-spanning memes, foods, subcultures, cultures, religions and concepts of all types disappear or become severely minimized when technology and a culture of "ability" (a radical belief in the ability of the self to learn and grow, matched with real, applicable and corresponding skills) advances to the point that someone/anyone is able to create their own versions of that content and experience; while rampant piracy and reactive stringent pricing and usage control policies devalue the 'official' product. This is not just the internet, it started with Greek direct democracy, Gutenberg, the renaissance and the french revolution, a lot of things in between that I don't know about, fast forward and my little corner of culture helped with Xerox zines and start your own bands, and hip-hop which mirrored that in some ways with sonic photocopying as well as an emphasis on fan contribution to culture, and even my beloved Dungeons and Dragons, which was published by a monolith corporate but was GNU in structure and just viralizes away into everything unseen, linux, but now it's about how the line between Rock Band and Garage Band is getting so thin that everyone might as well just have real guitars; how most rock, pop, country and rap is produced formulaically and digitally that we may just as well make our own and both intentionally and accidentally inject real insight and creativity and about how the desired content of fiction and indeed all social content is becoming so incredibly Niche-y that every town might have an author/chef/songwriter famous among SOME people for SOME thing, even if it is "1800's mutton-chop fetish smut literature", or "bare-handed deer hunting". It's even about TOTALLY GROSS AND AWFUL and to me useless things like furry, live-photo sonic and tails slashfic - because those are people who pay into an official brand, and take ownership of it thereafter, thought they may be sued in the process if they try to make a buck or get seen by the wrong eyes. Once you are naked, gay and painted blue, it's not really about a Sega Genesis game anymore, it's a new thing, and you might as well change the name and color of your character and just be that. I thing I have no interest in, but one that must be expressing something that is resonating with some people for some reason. Basically, instead of whining about how Japan isn't exporting project rainfall stuff, or whining about how Lady Gaga or whoever the new one is sucks, I want to have never heard of those things because my friends, family, neighbors or my own self outproduced those things, made our own better, cheaper, longer, much more customized, and more locally flavored versions. Things that go back into the local community and local economy; both in a literal fiscal sense and into the local CULTURAL economy. I want to fly to california, meet some guy, and say "oh yeah I'm into D-beat pagan ska", and he will say the same thing, and we will list the bands we like, and neither of us will have heard of the top twenty bands in the other person's list, even though they all belong to an incredibly obscure sub-sub-sub genre. I want to be talking about which RPG's we like best on each system, except that instead of saying "Yeah, Chrono Trigger was great", we're saying "hey, try MINE. It's about a world of silicon-based lifeforms, and you level characters up by fusing two weaker versions them at high temperatures, and it's really also about trade dynamics between cultures and Islam as reinterpreted in the Dune novels." Let there come a great winnowing of culture; let the crappy bands survive only in their own circles if at all, and only the truly great and enduring (the Beatles and the Shakespeares) rise to national or even regional prominence. Let the RIAA be humbled into irrelevance, made obsolete and left to die rather than torn down from without, while those with real passion for their arts and sciences build on the corpse; not a new monolith to rival the old, but a diverse and interconnected system of self-made, self-controlled content. Because if you can't save your game in Resident Evil, maybe you shouldn't WANT to, and you should buy a (community-supported, individually-developed, fat-free non-corporate) AA homebrew instead, or go out into the world and make your own game happen.
  23. There might be some wind left in these sails, but I won't be sailing a world covered in endless water... Well, I AM a man of constant sorrow
  24. Again, since you apparently still don't understand anything about what i'm talking about here, you only THINK I am misinterpreting. Do some research. And good. I'm done if you are.
  25. I can understand that. It's not irreversible, but it's very irritating to reverse. I can also understand someone not liking tattoos on others as an aesthetic preference. If I pick up a tattoo mag (pretty much because the girl on the front was cute, usually), I don't like a lot of the stuff in it. Usually there's about three I actually think are cool and two I think are funny, and the rest I'm just not a fan of the image, whether it's on paper or skin. I find the idea of something that's supposed to be "ugly" like a zombie or Eddie, kind of baffling as a choice to put on a body, but maybe those people thought that the image was beautiful in some way, or don't mind having something "ugly" on them as long as they think it's cool. I think funny tattoos are maybe a little more likely to be regrettable later than ones that have a deep meaning or those that are simply beautiful. I knew a few geriatrics who chose to get tattooed in their seventies or so, and it was really fun for them. Everyone was all excited about it - though, one of them died a month later (from unrelated causes, previously existing problem), and maybe that tattoo wasn't worth it for that reason - he only got to enjoy it for a month. Heh. I look at it like a composition on paper - the position and size of the design should ideally be planned to fit the shape of the medium, which is in this case pretty oddly lumpy, irregular, and mutable. I think the little stars in the hairline thing that some girls get is pretty sexy, but I don't really like the breastbone tattoos that other girls get. I have no problem with the 'tramp stamp', as long as it's actually a nice design. Sleeves really depend for me - if the whole sleeve is designed with a mind to composition, I think it's alright. If it's a bunch of separate tattoos that are being integrated in some way, I think it usually looks pretty bad. This is one of my best friends, btw.
