  2. I don't understand the why assembly language programmers want to bash on basic programmers. Both are great languages with their own purposes.

It seems though a lot of the posts go something like I bust my butt and they expect $$ for their effort? - I give up or they suck or whatever.

To me it doesn't make sense. A person should be able to ask whatever they want for their work whatever it is. If one person is selling hand wired LED recreations of masterpiece paintings and the other person is selling finger painted fridge magnets they should each be able to ask whatever they want. If people are willing to pay more for finger painted fridge magnets, maybe the smarter person is making finger painted fridge magnets. Know what I am saying?

But I can imagine how michelangelo felt after painting the sistine chapel and the first person who looked said, that is nice but I kind of get a kink in my neck looking at that. Hey, is that a painting of fruit that guy is selling in the lobby?

    1) I think the problem is that when batariBasic first came out, and when someone new decides to make a game, it's pretty easy to make a simple game using the demo codes that are available as examples. bB is a good tool, but some programmers seem to settle for whatever is easiest to "finish" and not push the boundaries of what the 2600 can handle or batariBasic for that matter. Assembly on the other hand is more difficult to master and thus weeds out a lot of lazy programmers.

2.) Because of what I wrote above, I think what people are afraid of is that too many games written in bB in an hour were going to end up on a cartridge and for sale, this would over-saturate the market with games that still need a lot of work.

3.) I think your analogy has a few holes though. I agree that people can sell for whatever price they want (or try to), but there's a lot of factors there. hand crafted LED recreations would take a lot of time and money to create, while finger paintings are usually done quickly and on the cheap. If both market values are the same, it's clear that one is charging too much or the other isn't charging enough.

  3. The Dreamcast homebrew Scene has been quite active this year, not only releasing games but aslo reviving online games like the next tetris & alíen front online, but in a future we'll see games like outtriggers,Bomberman online & maybe propeller arena or Unreal Tournament. Here's a list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dreamcast_homebrew_games

Missing from that list is Orion's Puzzle Collection, and Zia and the Goddesses of Magic is now selling pre-orders. both can be bought from Orion's website

  4. Do you know what the game was a prototype of? Was that game gavel or chase the chuck wagon auction site?

I believe the the prototype is of unknown origin...other than it was made by Universal. The cart was sold on ChaseTheChuckwagon which was later turned into GameGavel. There were 40 copies of the cart sold AFAIK

  5. This really depends.

Limited Edition games nowadays are usually not very limited and sometimes come with awkward metal tins or whatnot that make it harder to organize on a shelf. So I generally stay away unless packaged normally or I find it for super cheap. I care more for the game inside than packaging. I generally don't care about DLC stuff either unless it's more than the character skin variety.

I'd always pick a Special Edition over the Standard if the choice is available, but I won't pay any more than I would for the Standard.

Basically, I'll take what I can get. I don't seek out LE or SE copies.

  6. I much prefer GOG over Steam. Though there are a few games I want that aren't available through GOG. I'm not sure about Pinball Arcade stuff though.

I dislike Steam for several reasons, but to answer your questions.

-I find steam to be a resource hog but to be fair, my PC is quite a few years old now.

-Steam has ads but you can disable them.

-I think it feels cluttered with too many similar options.

you can have the games on multiple machines, you will need to install Steam on both.

  7. I have about 500 2600 carts, I used to collect label variants but only major ones, I don't bother with ones of different year or other very minor label differences. I haven't actually bought any in a few years though. Mostly I just pick up homebrew games now.

  8. I play both. My PC is starting to get old now, but I use it mainly for FPS and Point and Click Adventure games because I like the keyboard/mouse control for those kind of games. I have tried many other types of games on my PC over the years and even with a 360 controller, I find it often more a hassle than the general ease of flicking on a console and playing a game on my TV.

1.) For me, I find I get a lot of eye strain from being closer to my monitor rather than on my couch and gaming on my TV, graphic wise it may be better, but comfort will often trump what little edge the PC has. And I don't have the space for a PC in my living room (besides my media box that I run Kodi on)

2.) I don't keep up with a lot of PC exclusive titles, any examples? I haven't heard of any PC exclusive titles that would draw people in.

3.) buying a quality graphics card can be just as expensive as buying a new console, plus not having any warranty (if you build yourself) and many more possible parts that will need to be replace/upgraded along the way, means that it can really go either way. Also, I think we are at a point where hardware shouldn't need replacing every 5 years as some games are taking just as long to make, I mean, If you look at the PS3 library, there aren't that many games that REALLY pushed the boundaries of what the system could do.

4.) While that IS an option, you still need to buy the right USB controller cables to do this. some of them are terrible to configure. PC does have more options though.

5.) Digital games are generally about the same price, I find (though I haven't compared much) . however, Steam and GOG do have some amazing sales.

Like I said, I play on both for different reasons. I also tend to change by seasons. My basement (where my PC is) is cold in the winter and cool in the summer. so it's better to play PC games in the summer. My living room is warm in the winter and hot in the summer so it's better to play consoles in the winter.

  9. I really liked the Walking Dead games. I didn't at first (Chapter 1 of Season 1 I found kinda meh), but it grew on me as I played and chapter 1 became pretty important. By the time I finished the game, I just wanted more. I think they did a good job of capturing the way the Walking Dead show works. The choices you make affect everything. there's tension in the action scenes and there's tension in the dramatic scenes, there's characters you hate an some you love. I found it actually had emotion and drama, which is something that seems lacking in a lot of games.

It's not a new concept for a game by any means, but I've really gotten bored of the torrent of games in the last 10 years or so that all look and play identical to each other and have similar nameless/soulless characters with guns and tanks and just blow stuff up over and over again.
