Yeah, not the first time I have seen this from the company, They bashed it quite often in EGM when games like Rygar and Ninja Gaiden released and had to point out that there were versions of the games on the Lynx which were "Chunky and Clunky like everything else released for the system". Morons, all of them. I still can't figure out what a "Chunky" video game is unless it's with Peanut Butter. LOL

A good friend and I are working on something, hopefully for the spring - it WONT be Atari branded, but it will be a portable and will be 2600/7800...
Since it would have a FAT16 compatible SD Card slot and no cartridge slot, no the Harmony would not work with it.
My wallet is weeping at this news.

Mine too, but it will be cool to FINALLY have something like this. Curt, it needs to have some kind of attachment too that will work as a Paddle so we can get some Breakout and Warlords going, please! Even if it's only a small knob that spins, that would so rock!

- the Jaguar will never be able to do Resident Evil or System Shock exactly like it was on the PC or the PSX, Saturn. What IMO we wish to discuss is how the Jaguar can do either the exact game being discussed, or that type of game, IN THE JAGUAR'S OWN FUN WAY. Some areas actually may see improvement in graphics such as pixel shuffling etc. Obviously any poly texture mapping will take a hit compared to the other systems.
Exactly what people need to understand. The Jaguar, while a cool little system, is not really capable of games past first generation Playstation/Saturn. Not to say that this is a bad thing though as I personally really love that stuff. I always thought it was sad that we didn't see more games with FMV Cinematics in them. Not saying I want more FMV Games though. Games with FMV cinematics, at the time, was pretty cool. Wing Commander III is a great example of this. Not saying that anything these days would be able to be done on that scale though, just from the cost standpoint alone! Still, realistically speaking, the Jaguar was illused in the 2D area and it would be nice to see more done for it.

Uhm, just wow. I thought I was out there having three Lynx units!

Yup. Sad really. Nothing better to do than stir up crap. Now, Back to System Shock. I don't want to be responsible for derailing someone elses thread.

This Flashback 3 is basically Atari: 80 Classic Games in One minus the arcade game versions, making it 60 2600 games by Atari on a plug and play system.
Seriously? Man, you'd think that AtGames would have at least tried to put this into a portable. It really is what we all have been waiting for for so long.
Indeed, I am always serious, except they added...
Adventure II
Aquaventure
Backgammon (PS2 and Xbox Atari Anthology only)
Championship Soccer (original name before they changed it to Pelé's Soccer)
Combat 2
Fatal Run
Frog Pond
Hangman (PS2 and Xbox Atari Anthology only)
Realsports Basketball
Saboteur
Save Mary
Secret Quest
Wizard
Why didn't they add Atari Video Cube?!
And took away...
A Game of Concentration
BASIC Programming
Blackjack
Breakout
Casino
Codebreaker
Crystal Castles
Football
Math Grand Prix
Millipede
Quadrun
Radar Lock
Slot Machine
Slot Racers
Star Raiders
Stellar Track
Street Racer
Swordquest: Waterworld
Video Olympics
Warlords
Is there a list of all 60 games releasing on this somewhere?

Now all we need is for a cart release of this. Would be nice to play it on an actual 2600 system.

The original question was:
It struck me that it would be really cool if SS1 could be ported to the Atari Jaguar CD.Okay, but wasn't Robinson's Requiem running full on texture mapped... blah blah blah.... Just saying. I could be wrong though. You are discussing a re-write and not a port - there is no way in hell the Jaguar could run a port of this game at anything even remotely resembling a playable speed.
Okay, you got me there. I guess that System Shock could be rewritten for the Jaguar CD system. You are right.

Man, I haven't seen anything Atari at the swap meet in forever. The one around here never has anything older than Playstation! Sucks!

-
1.) Fast Food
2.) Warlords
3.) Centipede
4.) Ms. Pac-Man
5.) Haunted House
6.) Super Breakout
7.) Yars Revenge
8.) Adventure
9.) Berzerk
10.) Pitfall
This actually was really hard to do! There are just so many great games for the 2600! How come there are no hacks? We need the top ten hacks as there are some really well put together ones like Venture II, Wolfenstein, and Donkey Kong Escapes!
-
How was the console broken?
From what I remember, it never actually did anything at all. I could be wrong, but I think that's the story. Would have to ask Buddies for sure though. Been a long time on this one . . .

Here is a photoshop I did once trying to see what a Jaguar and CD combo would look like if you could make it more streamline.
Still would like to actually try this one day (for real).
Now this would be nice. I'd love to see this done and how well it would work out.
I still like the calculator though too.

Its a damn shame with the hefty memory requirements the Jag isnt able to do a version of Robinsons Requiem.Oh wait...
This example is exactly why I doubt System Shock would be doable in a worthwhile manner. Doable, maybe, but a doable that's worthwhile? I think that should be the question here. The system requirements for Robinson's are less, and there is clearly less going on in the game, yet it still runs rather choppy considering the basic environments it has. Perhaps Robinson's could have been done better, but using that as an example, I'd hate to see how System Shock would run.
Okay, but wasn't Robinson's Requiem running full on texture mapped polygons? Plus the fact that there was absolutely no help at all for the developers from Atari what so ever. The point I am trying to make here is that under the most ideal of circumstances, the game actually could have ran much better. I.E. had Atari given third party developers more support as well as a mixing of Gouraud Shaded levels with parts of it texture mapped, especially since the GS was more of what the Jaguar was designed to do. IWAR is a great example of what I am talking about. The game implements both Texture mapping as well as Gouraud Shading and the game looks very good and is smooth as silk. With so much more information out there on the Jaguar and programming, say someone was serious about doing System Shock, it seems to me that it would be more feasible to do now than it was then. Just saying. I could be wrong though.

There are several people that have beaten the Jaguar version, myself included, that have never seen slowdown in Pitfall of any kind. If anything, I really enjoy the added and smoother animations and framerate of the game.Right, there isn't slowdown in Pitfall. It relies on frameskipping when the system can't handle things entirely. It's certainly there in the US version, and I wouldn't doubt it's exemplified in the PAL release. It's particularly prominent on the water/waterfall stages.
The best I can compare it to is like running a console emulator on an older computer that maybe isn't capable of doing so 100%. Rather than have everything run like it's treading through molasses, allowing frameskipping keeps the overall brisk pace of whatever game is being played, but in compensation of a smooth framerate. Everything has a choppier look and feel due there obviously being missing frames in this case.
Now that I have the proper hardware and software, in the future I will do a side-by-side comparison video to lay this one to rest once in for all.

Sounds good. I look forward to seeing a proper comparison on this. Nice indeed!

Flashback is amazing. One of the best games in it's genre.
As for slowdown issues in 2D side scrollers on the Jaguar. Yes, there is some on Flashback. Doesn't kill the game though. As for Pitfall, after a lengthy discussion about this over at another Jaguar related site, we came to the determination that this is only an issue in the PAL regions as switching to 50hz seems to have ill effects on the game. There are several people that have beaten the Jaguar version, myself included, that have never seen slowdown in Pitfall of any kind. If anything, I really enjoy the added and smoother animations and framerate of the game.
Blackthorne is very much like Flashback. It has nothing to do with Delphine Software though. For those interested though, the game was created by Blizzard and the 32X version is downright amazing. It is more action based than Flash Back, as previously stated, but it is a damn fine game. Just as a note, yes the game is available on the SNES and GBA, but that's not necessarily a good thing.

This coming from someone who can't even manage to work out how someone else's "Hello World" program works.... Clearly you are qualified to make that judgement call

You know what? Forget it, it's clear you are only in this thread (forum?) to troll. I ain't feeding you, I'd rather be productive and make some games instead.
I have never considered JagChris a troll or accused him of trolling. I thought he brought up a valid counter point.
I was gonna say . . .
Of all the people accused of Trolling, Jagchris should be the last one as he is one of the few that kept the Jaguar section over here alive until the current resurgence. He did help make my point though. A dedicated console does things differently than a PC because a PC is running a bunch of other routines whereas a dedicated console is just that, dedicated to games. Trying to say that a home console can't run a game because it doesn't have the same specifications as a PC makes no sense. If anything, I would be more inclined to believe that a person who claims that might be trolling, as it were, especially when they "KNOW" due to the fact that they are a programmer, that the two are apples and oranges in the first place. Not saying that is the case in point, but just what could have been.

I bought this a while back and I can vouch for it's excellence (",)
It's hard as nails, but once you get into it, it's good. And of course it looks fantastic!
I second this. Zaku is an amazing game and quite a bit of hard work obviously went into it. Hey, is there a possibility, even a small one, that there is a sequel in the pipeline?

Let's look at this:
486DX2/50 for VGA (8MB RAM) - FAIL
486DX2/66 for SVGA and full speech (8MB RAM) - FAIL
20MB hard drive space - FAIL
2X CD-ROM - OK (But not really, as file access is crap due to the "filesystem")
DOS CD-ROM Extensions version 2.1 or higher [n/a]
Microsoft or 100% compatible mouse OK
Windows 3.1 for on-CD documentation [n/a]
Joystick, mouse, keyboard or Logitech Cyberman OK
256-color VGA (320x200) OK (4MB RAM) FAIL
256-color VGA (320x200, 320x400) FAIL (4MB RAM) FAIL
256-color SVGA (640x400, 640x480) (8MB RAM) FAIL
Music (optional): Ad Lib, Sound Blaster (Pro/AWE32), Ensoniq Soundscape OK
Sound Effects (optional): Roland RAP-10, Sound Blaster (Pro/16/AWE32), Ensoniq Soundscape OK
I'm going with my original "NO".
So, just so I get this clear, you are basing the limitations on what the Jaguar can do on what a PC can do? Reason being, there are several other games that were "Ported" from the PC to the 3DO that had huge needs from the PC side that the 3DO system itself wasn't close to being able to do, but the games turned out fine. I'm sure I don't have to explain the fact that a PC is obviously much different from a dedicated Video Game Console.
-
You know, after reading all of this, the Resident Evil characters would look very interesting in Gouraud Shaded Polygons. And instead of the "Toning It Down" argument, if we are playing devils advocate here, why not just release it with a 4md RAM cart like the one that was released for the Sega Saturn? Could also work with the guys who did the Skunk Board and get a program running on that that would do the same thing.

-
Try the wanted forum here and post a request. I think I asked Best Electronics in the past, and they said they didn't have any spares of those kinds of things. I had the same kind of thing happen, and I wound up buying one cheap off ebay that didn't work but the case was fine, and swapped the internals.
Yeah, looks like I have something working here though. I appreciate everything though guys. This just made me really mad so I am glad that I will get to get it replaced.

Anyone at all?

Basically, in storage, my two port 5200 got the front shield that covers the bottom half of the top of the unit and also covers the two nonused ports on my two port was shattered. I have no idea how it happened. I am also having trouble tracking down one. Does anyone know where I might find a replacement?

Jaguar and RPG'S
in Atari Jaguar
Posted
You know? For someone that just posted a post telling someone else to "Try Posting Something Positive", you sure are very negative all the time.
On topic. The Jaguar would be a pretty cook system for a nice RPG. The system surely needs one as it seems that's one genere that the fans that are still here have asked for and never gotten. Closest you'll get is Towers II. This and the Bash and Brawler genre really got left behind on the Jaguar.
