Does the Last Word (or any other productivity app.) support a mouse? And I also seem to remember a mouse adapter by Mytek. (??)

Thanks for all the hard work and improvements!

Hello Mathy-
How did this turn out for you, since a couple of years have passed? Did Steve take a return? Did you "bend" your anti-Windows rules? Or -- something else?
Just curious

Aren't the results these days amazing compared to where we began in the early 80's with color TV's? I started with a 9" Panasonic color TV that worked pretty well with my 800, then got a 12" Sony which was so much better. And then a bunch of monitors after that as technology improved! Quite a journey!

I think I just found it:
http://atariage.com/forums/topic/218649-full-file-versions-of-ik-and-wkc/?hl=world+karate
I've been looking at different versions of the WKC on Youtube. I think my favorite graphically is the ST version, but the music tempo is way too fast. Same for Amiga (unless there is a way to slow the music down). The A8 version acquits itself very well, especially the music.

The one I mentioned was a (very nice) hack. I'm sure it was posted here or at least linked (from here). It added two or three new background scene. I looked at Atarimania, I'll try the others -- thanks.

Oops! -- World Karate Championship
Several years ago, someone posted about an improved version of WKC with added and improved background scenes. Can't find it now. This was not the International Karate Plus. Does anyone remember this? I've searched several different ways here, but haven't found it.
Thanks,
Larry

@Charlie Chaplin-
PIM should be "Personal Information Manager." Remember the Palm Pilots, etc of the 90's? And a lot of PC software apps, too.

Thanks for all the added information! I certainly understand the potential future benefits of the MISTer, but it strikes me that for running an 8-bit computer (or even Amiga or ST), the MIST has shown to be very adequate. That makes the out-of-the-box MIST solution from Lotharek certainly looks inviting. Maybe the MISTer will be better with a bit more development of the cores?
Anyway, I'm going to follow the MISTer development, and if folks here know of any major changes, it would be great if they would post the info.

Thanks for he informative replies and links! I know a lot more than a couple of days ago!
Where did you guys purchase your de-10 main board? Assembled?
Can anyone confirm that the "kit" on Amazon is assembled? Looking at it, it is difficult to imagine it would require actual assembly and soldering.
-
I just recently became aware of this newer device. A more powerful system, supposedly. Does anyone here have one yet? Any thoughts of advantages of one over the other? I can think of one -- MIST can be purchased off-the-shelf, while MISTER may need DIY daughter boards, (which I don't really understand.) I've watched Nir's nice video on the MISTER, but still leaves questions about the boards.
I did find this thread here:

Wow!! Is the (assembled) mini still available from Panos?

Can the Eclaire (or even MIST) use a wireless USB keyboard? I presume not, but still worth asking. since I would not have to use another keyboard (with more wires).

Cardboard bankers boxes from Staples. Each box holds about 200 total (two rows wide). But I started my Atari journey with these. They were made out of oak by a talented wood-working hobbyist from our user's group. Very nice looking! I thought at the time, that two of these would be all I'd ever need!

But everything possible is backed up to images in one form or another.

My favorite used to be the 130XE -- for many years. (I never minded the keyboard and tolerated the cartridge port on the back.) But now, it's the 600XL. I did the DIY KJMann video upgrade and have an Antonia (SRAM/OS) board in it. Compact, great keyboard, cartridge port on top -- nice! The 800XL is also great, except the first thing one needs to do is fix the atrocious video. 1200XL? Really nice, but really big, eating up a lot of desk space. No PBI, cartridge port (tunnel) on the side, and usually poor video are major detractions.
I never understood the apparent fascination of some folks with the 400 -- that "keyboard" can only be politely described as an aberration. 800? It was my first Atari, so I still have a certain fondness for it, especially with an Incognito in it -- but man, that thing is BIG.

Thanks, I have an original of that book. Didn't think to look there!

Does anyone have a well-commented disassembly of the boot sectors? I got to thinking about this as a result of the "disk/ATR sorting thread."
Thanks!
-
I'll give that a try, then use VTOCFIX to check the ATR.
-
Hey! Thanks, I didn't know of that feature in RespeQt. In APE, you can only explore the folder where the ATR came from.
Edit: Maybe I'm doing something wrong. If I follow that procedure, then the disk is scrambled and no longer boots. (?)
RespeQt would need to re-allocate the VTOC, wouldn't it? I did use the Delete Files and Add Files of RespeQt, and it looks good, but won't boot.

@Zulugula-
Impressive! Could you post a brief explanation of what how your setup actually works? Are the .SID files converted in some fashion, or does the Atari convert them on the fly?
There are a lot of threads at AA on this topic, and a lot of missteps in getting some actual hardware. This is the most impressive I've heard. And of course, there are amazing differences of opinion about SID vs POKEY. Some represent true feelings about the two systems; some are just dogma. I've loved SID since I first heard it, and have a Stereo SID setup for my C64's, although I rarely get it out anymore. The PC emulators do a a great job (to my ears). And IMO, they do a much better job than the Atari emulation of SID. Your mileage (and ears) may vary!
Here is a link to a good online player/files:
I think one of the better repositories of SID material is on LOADSTAR COMPLEAT -- Fender Tucker's site:

I had the ST connected to the SIO of the XL. Very nice, to load stuff without mechanical gaps. Storing the images on the ST floppy was given though.
Sort of an SIO2PC? What kind of software was used to interface the ST to the XL. Files stored as ATR's or some ST format?

I started putting together my first 8-bit HD system in the mid-80's. Found a good deal on a 10 MB, half-height MFM 5-1/4" drive; picked up a shoebox enclosure at the Dayton (OH) Computerfest; bought a 250 KB MIO from ICD; MFM bridge board and the misc cables, etc. -- I was in business. MyDos 4.2? was the only Atari type dos that supported a HD. Read all the hype about disk Sparta Dos and eagerly tried it, but kept getting my HD scrambled, so went back to MyDos. Wow! The feeling of power and speed with that HD! Got a Black Box in the early 90's, but that was mainly because the BB was compatible with many more SCSI drives. I used that system for many years until the terrific IDE drives took over. But that first HD system produced a thrill like no other!

Still no luck here in finding a GEnie archive. I did go to the Wikipedia article on GEnie, and was disappointed to see that it listed an ST Roundtable, but no 8-bit! I'm pretty sure that Atari had an official presence on GEnie. Perhaps whoever wrote the article thought that it was all the same (8-bit + ST)? And then there was also the ANALOG Delphi forum. Here was an article written about it:

IDE+2 Rev D. Issues
in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Posted
I have two Rev D devices, and with a little effort, I managed to make both of them non-functional.
So I have some questions.
I actually ran across one that I didn't know that I had while sorting through some boxes of Atari stuff. My "in use" model worked perfectly, until I tried to set up the partitions on the one I found using the CF card from the working one. So I think partitioning is the root of my problems with both.
I'm going to set everything up from scratch, including the firmware. Can the Rev D use the latest bios (1.6)?
Which FDISK file is used -- I want the "new" partitioning scheme (whose name escapes me at the moment)?
Any other suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks,
Larry
