  1. What is the maximum number of backgrounds that can be used in the Atarimax 8 Mb cartridges? Would a "construction set" be feasible where the user could just add backgrounds to a file? (Loaded by disk, of course.) I do hope someone will pick up the idea for "out of this world" backgrounds. I can envision the rings of Saturn or a background of earth from the moon. Who could have dreamed of the quality of today's A8 computer art in the 1980's?
  2. In case someone wants to update/change the 32-in-1 OS module, here is the procedure. I should say "was" -- don't know if it still is supported. I have done this several times, so it did work as intended. Warp OS 32in1 Update Procedure.pdf
  3. The scenery is amazing! One of my all-time favorite games. I used to just watch the demo and listen to the music.
  4. @santosp or @Panther On the 27C010 eprom on the Grecian Personality Board, are the eprom "slots" 16K apart? Is it possible (currently) to have multiple 16K Rom OS in the GPB? And last -- is the OS800 CLU 10K or 16K? Edit: I thought this was a 27C010, but it is an 020. Only used the bottom half?
  5. IIRC, lack of Phi2 was also the reason that the MyIDE-II cartridge would not work with an 800. I presume from your last post (jumper) that the right cart Basic would not have to be active in order to have Phi2 in the left cartridge slot. (?) (So the Basic could be turned off.) I'm looking for a way to use the MyIDE-II cart with an 800 without tearing the 800 apart. There was a fair amount of interest in using the MyIDE-II with an 800, and I'm sure several folks were put off by having to go inside their 800.
  6. For those who want to try it, Altirra boots that ATX image with no issues. I used XL/XE, stock 810 drive, and XLOS-2 for the settings. Be sure to make the disk Read/Write after mounting on the "Disk Drives" user interface. I'll try it on real hardware later using APE with the VAPI.DLL add-on.
  7. I wasn't fast enough... What client do you use. I've never dealt with torrents before.
  8. Were you able to successfully boot the ATX?
  9. It's really not a dos disk (regardless of the name). It's a utility disk, and I'm pretty sure I have seen a cracked version -- "Cracked by Kilroy"? Also, this disk was apparently dumped for the Software Preservation Initiative, according to this post, so it should be available at least in SCP format:
  10. I solved my issue, and it was the interleve. But it leaves me with some new questions: Will Altirra accept custom formats with interleves not found in the "Change Interleve" table or is it locked to the table values? And I presume that I can change the interleve on an existing image at any time using the alternate table values? I've been testing XF551 firmware using the HyperXF (5.25") rom. I believe it should use a the same interleve as the US Doubler, but so far, I cannot get UltraSpeed with this combination.
  11. The menu writer was included in the UltraSpeed Plus OS module as part of the XL-FIX (800) OS. I have used it, and I believe that it supported both SD and DD disks. I don't believe that any sector copier was included with the US+ OS version, except there is a mini-copier in the US+ OS itself. Interesting to see the full package!
  12. I'll work with it some more. I added full emulation, then tried a few roms (hyperxf, XFturbo, and the stock rom). Used Hias' high speed patch for the OS. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. I'll find my error.
  13. I'm trying to test some XF551 roms in Altirra, but so far, I can't get anything but 1X SIO. I'm probably missing something. I started with the standard XF551 rom supplied under Altirra Full Emulation with a (Hias) patched OS. IIRC, it should produce 2X SIO ~39Kbs in DSDD mode, but I only get 1X. Is it possible to change roms on the XF551 in Altirra? BTW, The track/sector counter seems incorrect on the B side while doing a DSDD 360K format.
  14. When you get finished with the development, do you plan on selling these? Is it possible to socket the chips? (I don't think that I've ever had a Happy 1050 where the shielding could be used.)
  15. Thanks for the replies. @lemiel that table on Atariki is very nice!
  16. Have the podcast folks interviewed Bruce of B&C? If not, might be a good interview and opportunity to get answers.
  17. The 1050 Happy Archiver is so useful. There aren't very many copy protected disks to back up anymore, but this is still my go-to piece of copy software. I still love the track-by-track display of the sectors and status. And even the sound effects are great. I got the original 810 Happy Archiver about 1984 from Spartan, and it took care of those disks that the Happy couldn't touch. My 1050 HA manual looks like that pictured, but my disks came from B&C (who say that they purchased the rights to the Archiver programs). One bad thing is that one of my two original 1050 disks went bad almost immediately, but that problem was ultimately solved when I found a broken copy.
  18. Another thread got me thinking about this. A table/chart would be handy.
  19. No, this disk will not boot/load on an XF551 (and I'm not very familiar with this kind of a disk). It appears that it uses Sparta's UltraSpeed format, and tries to throw the drive into UltraSpeed mode during the boot process. Of course, the XF can't do that. I also tried the Hyper XF firmware, but the results were the same. I created a regular format DD disk image, and it boots, reads, and writes fine with the XF or the Doubler. I did this all in Altirra, so I'm interested to see what Doc comes up with using real hardware. I have both these drives, but they are boxed in the garage.
  20. Hmm, that's not my experience. Could you add some details about what you tried?
  21. Ditto! Always nice to see the background of our folks.
  22. @Geister If you're still interested in this topic (5 years later), why don't you update it a bit so we know if you still need help.
