Atari 7800XM and the Yamaha YM2151 sound chip
rockfistus replied to JonnyBritish's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
I should probably mention that the ym2151 is my fave soundchip, I grew up hearing it in the arcades. I use it all the time with that VST, Here is a patch bank of instruments I've ripped/created from several games: http://rocko.thiscom...c/r0cko_FXB.rar Here's some examples of some arcade music remakes I've done(some are rough around the edges and mixed with none OPM intruments): http://rocko.thiscomic.com/Music/Rolling%20Thunder.mp3 http://rocko.thiscomic.com/Music/Mercs.mp3 http://rocko.thiscomic.com/Music/RR%20CD/720%20Degrees%20Song1.mp3 http://rocko.thiscomic.com/Music/RR%20CD/Hippodrome_Boss.mp3 Mercs was the first time I used it, and Rolling Thunder the second. They are pure OPM besides the drum samples in mercs. http://rocko.thiscomic.com/Music/RR%20CD/Super%20C%20-%20Great%20Heli.mp3 These are all located at rocko.thiscomic.com/Music I didn't realize a player would pop up in the link. -
Playing around with it and making some instruments but it's a bit confusing

Atari 7800XM and the Yamaha YM2151 sound chip
rockfistus replied to JonnyBritish's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
A good way to get familiar with making sound with the ym2151 is to use this VST - http://www.geocities.jp/sam_kb/VOPM/ and here's an unofficial manual http://www.gorenfeld.net/lou/VOPM.pdf -
Looks really nice, thanks for keeping the ol Lynx alive

I hope the tracker gets finished, I can't wait to bang out some lynx tunes!

Brilliant. Good thinking. But it could get pretty menu hairy at the point, don't you think? Shortcuts are always nice. The other option is that it doesn't necessarily have to be as ROBUST as the original. There's some fat you could trim. Especially in the way of items (rings, wands, food) It's going to have to be simplified anyway, so I think 8 commands should be enough, make it so you hold the fire button and press a direction for each command. ;]

7800 Piggyback Expansion Module comes to life!
rockfistus replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 7800
Why aren't the hardware engineers allowed to have any fun working with the limitations? Don't be so anal. -

Best thing I've ever seen on the 2600 see my previous post My thoughts over at RR

Everyone knows I love the 7800 Double Dragon to pieces but I still picked it... Prolly 'cause I'd like to see what the machine can really do with my fave game.

After a ten year hiatus I started FF7 again, made it halfway through, realized I never played FF8, got it, Played all the way through it(my favorite FF game now,) went back and finished 7. A part of me is at peace now. I finished Metroid for the first time last year.

I didn't even know it was on here shit! I used to jerk off to the Atari catalogs and magazines when I was like 4. This rocks! For anyone else that never noticed: http://www.atariage.com/magazines/atariage.html

Every new game I got was disappointing, I was young and the box-art was always real exciting looking so that's what I expected. Then I'd pop the game in and see the blocky graphics and want to die. I think Berzerk was my first disappointment. One of the few games that wasn't so much of a disappointment for me was Raiders of the Lost Ark. It had a lot of depth for a 2600 game. I'm still fond of that one, even though the whip was a fucking dot Keystone Kapers and Pac-Man Jr. were excellent too. I didn't know jack about the systems limitations of course. I still had the Atari whilst everyone else around me was starting to get NES's too. That doubled the pain. 'till I got my C64

Knight Rider Forever?

The only PAL game I want is Impossible Mission(7800) for obvious reasons. Other than that the Highnoon theme song sounds wierds playing at 50Hz on the c64 and fucks up my childhood memories.

Video Game shops in your town that sell Atari 2600
rockfistus replied to slosu's topic in Atari 2600
I live in Ohio, I haven't been here in a couple years, but everytime I do go I find everything I'm looking for. It's been at least a year though..... Trader's World, in Beavercreek Ohio. If that fails, Turtle Creek is very close to it, so check there too! As usual with flea-markets, beware of redneck dumbfucks, fat-ladies that walk slow with baby carriages and nig-wannabe white boys. You might have to fight for what you want! Last time I was there, a redneck stupidfuck walked into the gameshop I was in and says "Hey HELL YEAH!" to his other equally dumbfuck friend. "Remember that Asteriods MAN? I UsED TO PLAY that Asteriods MAN!" the other dumbshit replied with the mind-numbing response "Is that on that PLS 2 thingamajig?" In translation I think that means: "Asteriods was a good game, man." "Yeah, On the PS2?" -
Looking to get my 1st 7800... what to look for?
rockfistus replied to tremoloman2006's topic in Atari 7800
Yes, this is important. Either find schematics(they're around here somewhere) and convert an NES pad to 7800, or order a pre-converted pad off e-bay. I can't even use the Pro-ass joysticks, they were made for alien lifeforms. -
I want that Chuck Norris MIA game on cart bad! I wish they'd re-release it for another session.

Removing Permanent Marks - Solution!
rockfistus replied to pm_john's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For real? I didn't know. That's awesome, now I can screw with people next time someone plays it! I didn't know about the marker thing either, thanks. -
Hell yeah! I though it looked sweet.

Question about SMS power supply
rockfistus replied to midnight magicman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I got the Powerbase Converter, it's pretty handy not having to have yet another system hooked up and anytime I get a' hankerin' to play one of the like 3 decent SMS games I just plug it into my Genesis and go to town -
I think you're right but my memory isn't too clear now. The only game I know of for the NES that has reggae Steel Drums and whatnot in the music is Super Mario 3, normally the most digitized sound you hear out of the NES is a car-horn in Paperboy or the cheesy drums in Super C(I like 'em.)
