  1. Right on, I like the first 7 FF games and the first 2 Zelda's + Windwaker. I haven't played any FF after 7.

I've started the first Elite song and right off the bat I ran into some evil note-clash with that distorted bass sound that comes in but I've managed to work around it by using two different instruments to play the same part. :P I didn't get any of that with the Metroid song so I guess I got lucky with that one. Hopefully I'll have the first song done pretty soon, these things usually don't take me too long.

  2. I'll jump in quickly....

C64 'Elite' - both tunes - Main Theme and Blue Danube

And defnitely the battle tune from the NES game 'Final Fantasy IIIj'

(actually the instruments you used in Metroid sould OK for most of

the tunes in this game - and there's lots of 'em, mostly little ones

    which get repeated continuously)

Sweet, it's a David Dunn soundtrack....I like his music. Just did Finders Keepers for someone not to long ago, also did Highnoon for my own remake a couple years ago(pretty sure he did that one.)

As for Armalyte, I like it the soundtrack...It's going to take some work to get a good sound outta Pokey for that one, since I'm new to the chip. Guess I got my work cut out for me guys.

BTW Wrathchild(Comin' to get you! Oooooh Yeaeeeeyeah!) What's the Final Fantasy battle tune gonna be used for? Just curious....

  3. No pain, no gain. :x

    ;)

Nah, I like writing music for games but I'm already busy doing a lot of em and here I am volunteering more of my time away since I discovered Raster Tracker...so I want to make sure anyone that wants some music done is doing a serious project....ya know. It also helps if I'm actually interested in the game.....like Shinobi, Double Dragon, Dk Jr., Metroid, Skaterock, 720 Degrees, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Super Pipeline II, Ghettoblaster, Spelunker etc.....those are my kinda games.

Can't remember Armalyte(Shooter right?) and I hate Elite but I'll still do the music, just gotta dig up the SID's and hear 'em out.

I'll post here again when I've got something.

  4. And here's the RMT file so you can experiment with it, exported at $d000 like it says to do. So if that needs changed for the 2600 just let me know.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I think the Brinstar song down there still has the deleted channels notes and a drum track(It was 4 channels to begin with)....They still need to be deleted, so don't let the filesize shake you up :)

    You porting Elite or what?

  6. Yeah I know, it sounds crappy now. :)

Stay with me here, I'm trying something new.....combining the notes by having different instruments for each 2 note chord. We shall see what happens....it's a pain in the ass though :?

EDIT:  So far I'm having some luck this way, I've got about half of the song done....but it's all gonna be in vain unless I can get the author of raster tracker to give me a special export option.

  7. Satan's Hollow would be difficult as some of the configurations of birds have five or more independently-moving birds per scan line.  I really don't see any way to avoid having that dissolve into a flickerfest.

You'd just have to work around this limitation, limiting the amount of birds on screen period... hence it wouldn't be arcade perfect...but what 2600 game was?

  8. My real opinion is to focus on gameplay, less on graphics. Acheiving both would be great, but even if the enemy sprites are monochrome, if the feel of the game is there, I'm satisfied.

Yeah I liked the *second* screenshot the best BTW. It looks completely possible, even if you have to cheese out some stuff to make it happen. Pitfall 2 is a lot like Metroid if you think about it.

  9. After examining it some more I realized that it's pretty bare-bones......All it contains are the tracks, note values and empty spaces.

I left some feedback at the authors site about maybe getting an export to A2600 option in the program so I've got my fingers crossed.

The other export options that exist right now do export the instruments, tempo, volumes....etc but they are native to the Atari 8-bit computers so that doesn't help us much. :|

  10. Okay here we go, I looked at the ASM dump and it contains the tracks and note-data, but not the instruments or anything.....so I guess I'd have to write down what each instrument should sound like or something?

This is the Chozo song, the real short one. The first instrument/track is a pure-tone, any kind of lead sound that fades out would work, and the second instrument/track is a really short cutoff percussive sound.

(BTW, if you download Raster Tracker it comes with some Docs about this stuff which you'd probably understand more than me, I just learned how to use the program last night after I saw you guys talking about this project, been tracking songs for a long time though. I hope you have luck with this.)
