1. My burner has an ISA card interface, I use it on a 486 with a dos program to write them.

    Never a problem.

Does anyone know if I can use my burner to burn an eprom from my 88 trans am?

  2. burnt an eprom and tried it but it flickers like crazy other games work fine.

Weird. The scanline count is constant when running the binary in an emulator and the only stuff that is flickering are the missiles.

Well the whole screen flickers about every 5 seconds on my 2600

  3. Rainbow Invaders is a new Space Invaders style game for the Atari 2600 from Italian developer Silvio Mogno. While many games of this nature have been released for the 2600 (to say nothing of the countless Space Invaders hacks), Silvio's game adds a breath of fresh air to the genre. Yes, you are shooting at descending waves of alien invaders, attempting to finish them off before they reach the ground. However, the aliens also periodically drop one of 16 random Special Shots, some of which will help and some of which will hinder your efforts if you catch them. Your ship also features a shield that will make you invulnerable for a few seconds, at the expense of not being able to fire again right away.

You can download the binary here, which also includes a preliminary manual in PDF form. Silvio is looking for feedback and bug reports so he can further improve the game, which you can leave in this thread.

PS: I know the game isn't new, it was in our In Development section for some time until I removed it. I just added it back today. The playable binary is new, though. :)

  4. Its nice to see the commercial posted on other sites, I'm just a little dismayed that someone chose to chop www.atarimuseum.com off of the top of the commercial, and then put their own watermark down the side of the commercial.

I don't mind people mirroring commercials from Atari Museum, just respect the watermarks I place onto them.

Sorry Curt, I didn't do shit to the content, I just downloaded it from WinMX, a while ago, found it today enjoyed it and decided to share it.

I didn't even know you had a copy, I'll compare my copy to yours to see if what you are saying is true.

can you give me a link to your atari commericals? I'd like to check them out.

    Thanks

  5. Atari 2600 - 'What will we come up with next?'

After watching this it makes the games seem a little dissapointing, would be nice if someone wrote a 3d version of asteroids for the PC just like the gameplay in this commercial.

You can download it here, it's 20 megs.

Let me know what you think or if you've seen it before, If you've got other vintage atari commericals let me know and I'll add them.

  6. What if I wanted to run larger games on this?

What would be needed to add proper bankswitching for larger roms?

Largest I could find so far is 16K, are there larger roms?

I just want to support the atari type of bankswitching.

    Yikes!

Doesn't look like I'll be playing Defender II anytime soon.

Ya I have found even 3 inches can be the limit with 2600 BUS so try to keep those wires short as possible. Also if you can send me your schimatics for your cart you made Iwouldbe very greatful as I tried to do the same thing you did a while back but I gave up where you stuck in there!! Congrats :)

    993438

I'm going to play with it a again today one of the things is draw up a schematic for this and start working on a new cart to play different chips only seems to work with 27256 chips got a load of 128 chips I'd like to run. I'd also like to start looking into adding ram.

The long wires do indeed generate alot of noise, but I'm not ripping the thing apart since it works and it took so long to make it work. I'll just make a new and improved one. So to handle the noise issue I'll take one of my 2600's and try to do a vid mod on it.

been playing lots of paddle games on it but still a little jitter, anyone got the digikey part number for a replacement 1 meg pot?

  7. can I use the dump utility on a regular 2600?

    1003014

    I suspect not.

    Actually, yes, you can.

An Atari 7800 with a DevOS ROM installed is a much better choice for 2600 dumping.

    1003033

But you need a 7800. This will work on a 2600.

would it be possible to make a card adapter for my eprom burner and read it in there?

  9. Quick suggestion: try using hot glue to mount the perf board to the cart board.

Also, it's a good thing you didn't make those wires any longer. More than about six inches or so, and the whole thing becomes unreliable.

    992405

It's only the first prototype. I must admit it does generate alot of noise on the screen, I'll have work on the a/v mod next.

  10. I finally got it going! Seems to play 2 & 4k games fine on 256, chips need to be erased for 30 minutes atleast. Just playing fall down right now.

Can't seem to get space invaders deluxe working on it, but I made some real progress today.

Here's some pics or my setup.

Thanks for the transistor idea! Worked out great!

  11. So I've gotten this far incorporating the inverter

/OE Output enable pin 22 goes to the input of the inverter

The output of the inverter goes to a12 on the cart port pin 6 top

    Pin 1 VPP is grounded

Pin 20 /CE chip enable is grounded

    Pin 26 ???

    Pin 27 program strobe ????

    A12 Pin 2 ???????

Can someone fill in the blanks please.
