  1. The button does activate the ship's thrust when you hold the joystick in the down position. This should make lifting the pods off the surface much easier. Read the instructions! Just kidding. I played the game for a long time before I read them and found this feature. I started to get a lot higher scores after that. Also got much better scores when I started playing level #5 instead of #1. This was well after the high score contest was over, but like I need a contest to have a reason to play this awesome game.
  2. *makes road trip to Columbus* (One hour and a half later) *buys machines* Now how are they going to fit into my Civic?
  3. Always keep the tanks/planes in front of you--number one priority. Then back up and let the tanks and planes come to you. I keep moving backwards all the time and rotate left or right to avoid fire. Only stop if the tanks are moving out of firing range-and if you are safe of course. The planes come at you very slowly with your tank in constantly in reverse. Just line them up and they are quite easy to kill this way. I also spend most of my time looking at the radar screen. I only look up at the main screen to avoid fire, avoid a plane attack or for final targeting.

Great comics, both Mojofltr and Moycon. Please, if either of you have any unposted comics, post them!
  6. I'll be there as well. I can't wait for it. So who's going to pass out the Atari Age badges?
  7. Dodge 'Em does end at 1080, the maximum score. Got that score plenty of times back then. Riddle of the Sphinx can be solved, but I don't remember any spectacular ending. (Other than the relief of getting it done.)
  8. Please do. Those of us who couldn't make it would like to see what we missed.
  9. Does anyone know if Mattel is going to bring back Football II? I've got the re-issued Classic Football (1) and I gave my brother Mattel's Baseball for Christmas last year. I want to see them bring back all those old handhelds.
  10. What's sad about all this is four or five years ago, Radio Shack used to sell Atari cartridges.
  11. I'll add that these are ROM sizes listed. The 2600 has 128 bytes of RAM and most games had this to work with. Only a handfull of games had extra RAM chips in the carts. Here is a list of the Atari Superchip games, from the Stella list archives. M-Network's Burgertime and the CBS games Tunner Runner, Omega Race and Mountain King are the only other games for the Atari with extra RAM. As least AFAIK.
  12. I bought some used ones a few years ago and I have never been able to get them to work. Of course, my technical skills consist of taking out the battery and putting a new one in.
  13. If they ask for your phone number, tell them 867-5309.
  14. I have the same problem with both of my Pole Position II carts, except I only get about 20-30 seconds into the race. I bought the second one because I thought the first had a defect. I have no idea how to fix it.
  15. Great work! I can't wait to see that untitled drawing when it is finished.
  16. Were there any games for the 8-bits that used these techniques?
  17. I really want to play those later INTV releases like Stadium Mud Buggies, Diner and Thin Ice. It's too bad these games are very rare. The late INTV releases also hacked the old Intellivision sports games and made them so one player can play. I do have Super Pro Football and it is cool.
  18. The 800XL was my first computer as well. I've never used any of the other 8-bit models, so I really can't say much about the others. I did hate how the 800XL keyboards were different. My first 800XL had a great keyboard but had some defect and I had to take it back for another one. The new one lasted for 8 years, but the keyboard sucked--it was flimsy, felt cheap and made typing difficult.
  19. Great strip. We need to have a comics page here at Atari Age so I don't miss a single strip from anyone.
  20. There used to be an emulator that solely emulated I, Robot. I had it on my old computer before the hard drive crashed. Just searched the net for it and came up empty. It was an excellent emulator, the game ran pretty quickly on my old Pentium 75.
  21. I ripped this off from some comedian. Guy sees a sign for an adult bookstore and walks in. Looks around, confused. Asks the clerk, "Hey, where's all the juvenile masturbatory trash?" Clerk: "Sir, this is an adult bookstore." Ah, maybe it's all in the delivery. Another thing I don't get. Gentlemen's clubs? That's as bad a description as adult bookstore.
  22. So what are we fake people supposed to do?
  23. Christmas of 1981. Combat Asteroids Freeway Dodge-Em
