  1. The NetUSBee and UIPv43 combo has got to be the easiest way to get files to the Falcon.

If you do not know this already, The NetUSBee plugs into the cartridge port of the Falcon/ST and you connect it to your home router with an RJ45 patch cable like you would any PC. Then, you run UIPV43.PRG on the Falcon/ST and it grabs a local IP address from your router's DHCP and displays this Address on the Screen. On your "Atari Companion" PC, you put that IP in a browser window and you get a file transfer utility window and it is drag and drop from there.

Other that putting UIPV43.PRG on a disk (or CF/SD) to get it to the Falcon/ST in the first place, you need no disks, no CF/SD cards, just plain file transfer using TCIP across the network.

Sorry if you all knew this already. I am just excited at how easy this solution is.

Just so you know, there are some issues with the uiptool. It has trouble with file sizes larger than 3mb causing corruption in data transfer and it cannot copy empty folders which causes issues when copying Mint OS installs. My solution for the empty folder issue was to make sure I transferred files zipped, then unpacking on the Falcon.

  2. The best way to fix the screw holes is this: Get yourself some really good epoxy like JB Weld and push it into the holes with a tooth pick or something small. Then get some PTFE tape and wrap a thin layer around your screws. Then gently screw them into the fresh epoxy and let it set over night. The next morning when you unscrew them they come straight out because the PTFE tape protects the screws, this leaves a perfect thread left over.

I fixed my Falcon cross-threaded screw holes like this and it worked perfectly :)

  3. Heyas,

I just finished installing the Exxos FPU O/C PCB and the Falcon CLK patch PCB and disabled wait states on the mobo. I took a screenshot of my Gembench result, just hoping to get some comparison feedback about the results:

And off topic but I decided to do my own custom retrobright of my Falcon case while I was doing the mods. I just dunked them in a 50L plastic box filled with water, half a box of Oxy action and a bottle of Peroxide from the hair section at the supermarket.

    Looks like brand new:

Took this opportunity to install my aluminium 030 badge too, looks so snazzy :)

    Thx

  4. I've never used centscreen, but I think you'll need to have nvdi after the centscreen application. Otherwise, try with something like fvdi.

Centscreen readme states it has to come after NVDI, but yes I tried it both ways to make sure. FVDI seems to be something different? I read up you set resolutions inside FVDI which would mean no need for centscreen? Isn't this for modern systems though?

  5. Hey guys,

Has anyone got Centscreen working properly with NVDI? I can get Centscreen working by itself, but the moment I put NVDI in the autofolder I get 2 bombs on startup. I'm using Centscreen 3 and NVDI 5.03. I am making sure to put NVDI _first_ in the auto folder as well.

I am trying to use Centscreen because Xaaes specifies that it can work with Centscreen (and does) and I am using mint. If there is another recommendation please send it my way, I tried Videl Inside before which made Xaaes crash instead.

    Thx

  6. Heya,

    I was thinking of purchasing:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-C-LAB-Atari-Falcon-030-computer-VGA-monitor-adaptor-cable-ALL-resolutions-/162075979716?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

Then I was going to open it up and solder a composite cable on to the composite output pins, effectively getting VGA and composite out simultaneously. Would this work? I'd like to have VGA to my Falcon monitor and then composite to my PC video capture.

    Thx for any thoughts,

  7. Does the tracker use the DSP ? Does your Falcon have the clock patches done ?

Ace tracker definitely uses the DSP, it's famous for being the best DSP tracker for the Falcon. I haven't had any clock patches, they look so difficult to do. I was just surprised that someone would write software that depended on people having a clock patch, surely the developers would have mentioned it in their documentation if that was the case, I would have thought.

  8. Hey guys,

Still early days for me, got all my upgrades on order but finally got a USB floppy drive for my PC at least. I've been trying out Ace Tracker but I've noticed pops and clicks coming from the right channel when I run the software. These pops n clicks happen randomly even when not playing music.

I *have* read through google searches of other ppl experiencing this on ace tracker. One person started getting these issues after installing a DSP. Another person I read was just stock. Anyway, these pops n clicks only seem to happen in Ace Tracker so far.

    Any thoughts?

I am hoping after I install my PSU upgrade from exxos it might help with over-all sound quality.

  9. On boot if it says MINT is now TOS then it is Multitos. If not, standard TOS it is.

What sort of software do you need or want? I can make you some floppies if you have specific requests.

Congrats on a beauty of a Falcon there!

    -Pete

My knowledge of available software is not good, so maybe I'll phrase it like: / If I was a Falcon owner for many years and wanted to show off how amazing it was to a friend / The software I would choose for that kind of purpose. So yeah anything you would choose to show the machine off would be cool. By 'make floppies' do you mean you'd write me some physical media, if that's the case I would certainly send you some money for the disks and postage. Or did you mean make some floppy images for me? :) Thx

I just ordered a NetUSBee as recommended by leech, I watched a video on it and that web server based software solution looks absolutely perfect and easy to use. I've also ordered an external floppy drive for my PC and some 1.44mb floppy disks so I can write disk images etc. Hopefully won't be long before I can begin playing around with the machine properly.
