  1. Well my baby arrived: http://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6vqgf6MYPD1b0F4X1ZIOTR2cEU https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6vqgf6MYPD1UEZKVGlMdWVZN2M NetUSBee looks awesome! I'll get one of them for sure. One of my main things is to get some internet access. First things I did was completely wash and clean the case and keyboard, disabled the internal speaker and removed the noisy fan. Seems to be using standard TOS, I don't understand if this is a multi-tos or not though, not sure how to tell. At the moment I cannot put any software on. I need to at least get myself a floppy drive for my PC. So at the moment it's just a pretty desktop with a few basic apps
  2. Holy cow guys! Thanks SO MUCH for all this info. You've honestly helped me out so much I cannot wait to get started and let you know my progress!
  3. Hey thanks Christos, Okay I reckon the first thing I will do is get 14mb's of ram, then just have some fun trying out all the software I can get my grubby mitts on. I'll also look at a floppy emulator. I was watching lots of your YouTube vids! Any suggestions of video capture from a Falcon? Ta,
  4. Hi all, I feel like I've had five birthdays in one, my ultimate childhood dream, an Atari Falcon 030 is coming my way. I haven't used an Atari since 1998 when I had my 1040 STE, so my knowledge is somewhat rusty and dated. So I'm hoping some kind people could give me some pointers. 1. If anyone could list a bunch of cool stuff you think I should try out, demos / games / programs etc. I definitely want to try ACE tracker & get some cool tracks to play. 2. Advice on desktops, I'm interested in magic/thing/jinee but know next to nothing about them apart from that they are unix based. I definitely want to get a cool desktop going. 3. The system is pretty much stock apart from a 2gb flash drive. I obviously would firstly be looking to max out the ram to 14mb, any advice on obtaining this. 4. I have heard of CPU accelerators, but have also heard they're amazingly expensive. Do I need one? 5. I don't know if the stock Falcon has an FPU chip, should I get one? Where how etc 6. I would love to get it networked for internet browsing as well, advice around hardware and software would be appreciated. 7. Should I replace the 1.44mb drive with a USB floppy emulator drive? I don't know of any easy ways to transfer software otherwise, because my PC doesn't have a floppy. 8. Anything else I haven't thought about? Since Falcon videos on YouTube are somewhat limited, I was thinking of making a mini-series... 'Rediscovering the Falcon' or something, to document my experience. This would certainly be something I personally would have liked to have seen, but doesn't exist. This would also help me give back to the community, and help any other potential newbies later. Thanks,
  5. Check out my ebay auction @ Ebay Auction Page I've got tons of awesome stuff I'm sure anyone on this forum would appreciate.
  6. Well when I tried to get those games they were very difficult to find and when I did they came at a higher price than usual. You forget I'm trying to SELL my stuff. IMO they are rare and on the rarity guide they also are rare compared to more bog standard titles. Not everyone on ebay is an atari expert with an entire rarity guide in their heads

  8. Is there any official or homebrew games based upon this kind of game? I think it'd kick ass on the lynx, especially with comlynx multiplayer... imagine the hours of fun that could be had =)
  9. Cool, thanks for all the advice guys! At the moment the games I've managed to get are: paperboy/batman/lemmings/ms pacman/steel talons and, after reading some of the responces, robotron! Robotron is truely wonderful, just like llamatron =) I've got blue lightning on its way to me also, which is supposed to be good i think. man I love this console =) I love steel talons for its flight simulator style and 3d polygone graphics (very impressive) reminds me of a few flight sims I had for my old ST. Are there any other lynx flight simulators, or any games with 3d polygone style grx? thanks - uji
  10. Thanks for all the replies.. I feel so welcome! woooooooo
  11. Not sure why but I've caught the lynx fever, symptoms being a strange obsession for collecting the machine and games! Anyhow, a few weeks ago I was passing my local second hand game shop, and there was a good old lynx in the window. At the time I just thought to myself 'woah' but keeped walking, the other day I phoned up and to my suprise they still had it! Went down there, checked it out and the machine has been very well looked after, almost looks new =) It's bringing back those childhood memories of the early 90's, hoping santa would being me one, but alas I think the prices back then were outside of santas budget =( Now I've been bidding like crazy for games on ebay, and I've already got myself a copy of lemmings for £27, since I totally love the game and I thought the price was reasonable. anyhow, I'm so happy I found this place, I've been reading the forums for hours over night, everyone seems very cool. - uji ps - I used to have a game called Llamatron on my old STE, has anyone made a sort of homebrew conversion for this? man that'd kick ass =) pps - another question, since I've not actually held a lynx before now, is the screen supposed to be 'interlaced', and on avarage how is the screen quality for them overall?
  12. Sounds like the backlights working, but without any overlaying screen display. I'd check the ribbon connection between the pcb and lcd display, it may have become loose. Failing that there could be a loose solder connection on the brightness controller, check that out since it could be set on 100%, while decreasing it has no effect. If either of these don't work, I personally would get my continuety tester, and check all of the conponents accross the board. Could be as simple as a little resister or capacitor gone pop somewhere =) Also here's a handy set of screenshots and parts list for repairing a lynx (found while searching google): Click here I hope some of this could be handy, since I'd like to have a go myself at fixing a broken lynx, I'm quite handy with electronics =) - uji
