It depend on TOS version. I had 560 MB SCSI disk on STfm with TOS 2.6 Thanks, one more point to know. My 260 ST has had TOS 1.04 and my HD was 20 MB. Michael

Some "normal" STs have a Blitter too, you require TOS 1.02 (1.2) to use the advantage of the Blitter. Michael

The ST used an interface called ACSI, similar to SCSI. Can´t remember any restrictions at size, but as far as I remember, the biggest HD for the ST was about 80-100 MB. Michael
