  6. I agree the games the 7800 for a launch in1986 was dated, but I thought the Atari 7800 was released in Jaunuary 1986 for the re-release of the system. I thought the 3 titles Gameinformer mentioned were good games though. Asteroids was the game that was even considered old by 1984 though. What the 7800 needed to add for its 1986 launch was Pac-Man Collection, Failsafe, Space Duel, and Scramble to their Launch lineup. I know all those are games Bob programmed for the 7800 or middle of, but they are titles that would have been system sellers, or games that haven't been released on any Atari game console. The only reason didn't have all the homebrew titles as a launch titles was do to the fact they needed to be saved for the later part of 1986 and all of 1987. I know the games I mention were dated for adding on, but actually Pac-Man Collection would have been a system seller as a launch title. The amount of Pac-Man titles and options Pac-Man Collection has actually would have been a must have game for people that were fans of the arcade games. Failsafe would have been great for the fact the game really wouldn't have been out of place for 1986 since it is a sequel to Countermeasure. Space Duel isn't quite as old as Asteroids. Scramble actually would give people a title that only was released on the Vectrex.
  7. I just had a chance to look at my new Gameinformer issue. Gameinformer was grading Launch lineups of most game consoles starting the Atari 2600. Gameinformer typed Atari 7800 was launched in June 1986 and titles available on Launch day were Asteroids, Joust, and Ms. Pac-Man. Gameinformer typed "The Atari 7800 was orginally supoosed to come out in 1984, but the Great Video Game Crash of 1983 caused the company to shelve for two years. That mistake is readily apparent in its paltry day-one selection of three titles. The 7800 could play 2600 games, but at this point who would want to?" Gameinformer also considered that Atari 5200 and the Atari 7800 to have the worst console launches in History for their inability to offer relevant games or do anything to positively state the cases for those system. There is one thing able the article they created that makes you question their research. They straight said that they are 100 percent certain that Super Mario Bros. was a launch title for the Nes.
  8. The Atari 2600 is the king of pre-1985 shooters. Atari 7800 though is a system to keep an eye for early eraof SHMUPS because of there is still shooters being programed for the 7800. Since 2006, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel, Space Invaders, Meteteor Shower (known as Astroblast for 2600) and Moon Creasta has been released for the 7800. There also is an early era SHMUP for the 7800 that currently in development that the 2600 doesn't have. In terms of the modern Shmups, Sega Saturn, Tg-16/pc engine, and Sega Genesis are the best. With the Sega Saturn at the moment, I have to say Panzer Dragon Panzer Dragon Zwei, Darius Gaiden, Soukyugerentai and DoDonPachi based on what I have. The Saturn has a lot of iimport shooters and they are not the cheapest to get.
  9. I am guessing the Ebay seller changed it. I still think the value isn't there at 4,799.00
  10. I am long time Atari 7800 owner. I got the system for Christmas in 1989 when I was in 5th grade and I got a Nes in 1991. Here is the answer to your questions. 1.) The power button isn't supposed to be finicky at all. 2.) same as a Nes select button. 3.) I had the same issues in the past with 2600 games and it is a normal issue. 4.) I have no idea. 5.) It depends on the publisher of the 2600 games and there could be one more factor. Atari 7800 has 3 different models during its lifetime and it could be a reason why you have problems with 2600 games. The version of the 7800 I has a more tight cartridge slot than older 7800 models do and it does make more difficult for getting some 2600 games to work as a result.

  12. Accidentally pressed the quote button instead of the edit button.
  13. There never has a been release of Mad Planets. I know Mad Planets is a long time rumor mill game for the 5200 with Parker Bros. being the publisher. Mad Planets was victim of Parker Bros. leaving the video game industry. That is the closest thing Mad Planets has to a port on a computer or game console.
  14. I don't understand the big deal of XM games that uses ram features. Atari 7800 games had extra ram in cartridges way before the XM was even being talked about and it should a non issue as a feature for the XM. I know that back in the day, there was no 128k of ram in a 7800 cartridge, but there always been plans to add ram or sounds in 7800 cartridges like Rescue of Fractalus. 7800 XM is a cheaper way for having extra ram instead of adding extra ram in cartridge in terms of looking at from a long term prospective. When a game like Starcastle was brought up in the past as a title that people wanted homebrew authors to do, the biggest issue from it happening was ram. Without the extra ram feature the XM has, Battlezone wouldn't be close to the arcade version. A stock 7800 version of Battlezone would have similar differences as the Atari 2600 version of Battlezone.
  15. Not really. I posted in that other topic, but that topic was not only about Double Dragon a first place. You linked to a post, not all the posts in that thread. The nature of that thread was mention games that would be improved the most by music only. Double Dragon needed more than Music change like I mentioned in that thread and that is why I don't consider this thread deja vu as a result.
  16. Finishing Pit Fighter would be cool IMHO. Not in this case. I grew up liking the arcade and Genesis version of Pit Fighter as a teenager in the 1990's, but the 7800 version of Pit Fighter not being completed is blessing. 7800 version was going to be the worst version of Pit Fighter out there. Some of the graphics of that game was taken out of Double Dragon and Title Match Pro Wrestling. A stock 7800 was not made for having large digitized characters. Pit Fighter would be better off starting from scratch as an Atari 7800 XM game. It is still would be a bad port tough.
  17. Thanks for the update. That video is nice change for what a 7800 game should have sounded like back in the 1980's.
  18. Thanks for the update Curt.
  19. I know Atariage did participate in the past in video game conventions. Atariage actually had a booth at Class Gaming Expo 2010. They also were a sponsor of the Midwest gaming classic and had a booth there.

    Space Fury 7800?

Here is the arcade version of Space Fury I am referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TG0QKieErk

    Space Fury 7800?

yes, Atari 7800 is able to handle the Colecovision version of Space Fury without the xm like Drac mentioned. Atari 7800 actually needs the XM for doing the Arcade version of Space Fury though because the arcade version of Space Fury has alien voice. If a 7800 homebrew author plans on doing a Space Fury port or clone, it would be based on the arcade version.
  22. Console - Atari 7800 Computer - nothing. I picked Atari 7800 due to the fact you can play Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 games on a game console. I never owned or used an Atari computer due to the fact I didn't have a computer at home before July 1994 as I were entering my sophomore year in High school. The 2nd thing is Atari computers were not in any of the school I went to at all.
  23. I don't have every Atari 2600 game release or a game from every Atari 2600 publisher. What I can tell you is I have problems Imagic titles fitting in my Atari 7800 or getting them to work. The 7800 model I own is a later model of the system since I got an Atari 7800 as a Christmas gift in 1989. I don't know if Robot Tank or Space Shuttle works Atari 7800, but they don't work on some 7800 system to my understanding and Tigervision carts don't fit at all.
  24. Taitio also licensed out Mat Mania Challenge on the Atari 7800. The 7800 version of Mat Mania Challenge is based off Mania Challenge - http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8614 and Mat Mania - http://www.arcade-mu...hp?game_id=8641
