  1. GCC screwed up not having 8k of Ram instead of 4k inside the 7800 and a Pokey sound chip also. I would have like to say 16k of ram, but that sounds expensive when the 7800 was being designed. I agree that if Tramiel had GCC and Atari's arcade division that Atari 7800 would have been better in terms of game library. The question mark would be if Tramiel would have allowed some ram into a cartridge for arcade ports. If the 7800 had 8k of Ram instead 4k, it would prevent some of the arcade division games for adding ram into a cartridge such as Marble Madness, and Gauntlet for an example. I don't know about some of the other Arcade games Atari Games did if 8k would be enough like Paperboy. Atari 7800 also needed to do more Lucas Arts computer ports at the time beside Ball Blazer and Rescue of Fractalus!. I think The Eidolon, Koronis Rift, and Maniac Mansion would have been good additions for the 7800. The big challenge still would have been games that were not arcade or computer ports for the 7800. The 7800 needed games similar to Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. back in 1987 instead of 1990. Even with if Atari still had the arcade division, the sport genre still wouldn't great some areas.
  2. Parents buy kid games systems based on what the kids want, not what the parents want for their kids. The Nes was hot game system in the United States, and the XEGS wasn't. The XEGS 2nd problem was the price. Some parents thought it a game system and it was expensive. I am was a prime example of not getting a XEGS in price besides not wanting as a kid. I went with my dad to buy a video game system in 1988 and price was one of the factors for what system I want to get. That also was a reason get a Nes before 1991 also.
  3. The 2600 the same games on the 7800 in some case. Games I listed were games that weren't even in prototype form back in 1984. The money spent in Development in the 2600 versions of Crossbow and Dark Chambers would have been better off going 7800 game development for Super Mario Bros. style game, and Zelda Style game. Scrapyard Dog and Midnight Mutants came too late being the first Super Mario Bros. style game and a Zelda Style game for the 7800. A Zelda Style game and Super Mario Bros game in 1988 could have made a better impact for the 7800 instead of 1990. Scrapyard Dog and Midnight Mutants would have been the 2nd game of the Super Mario Bros style genre & Zelda style game genre. The 7800 didn't get a Super Mario Bros style game, and Zelda Style game too late in its life. The money spent for Dark Chambers, and Crossbow would have solved that problem. Money for development for 2600 versions of Crack'ed, Desert Falcon, and Ikari Warriors could have went to 7800 development for Failsafe, Boulder Dash Style game and a contra style game for 7800 for an example instead. Fatal Run, Klax, Sentinel, and Xenophobe were released for the 2600 in 1990 for North America, or were pal only games. The development money Atari spent on 2600 versions of Fatal Fun, Klax, Sentinel, and Xenophobe could have went into 7800 game development for Captain Skyhawk style game, R-Type style, Bomberman style game, and Pinball game.
  4. I had no problem with Atari completing Atari 2600 that started to be worked in 1984 and were completed later in the 1980's since it made perfect sense to sell the 2600. The problem was the games Atari started for the 2600 in 1987 Here are the games that Atari shouldn't developed for the 2600 and the development money should went the 7800 instead: Cracked (game was a prototype for 2600, but was released for 7800) Crossbow (Game was also released on 7800) Dark Chambers (game was released for the 7800 also) Desert Falcon (game wasn't work for the 2600 in 1984, but the 7800 version was) Double Dunk (2600 only game) Fatal Run (Game also released on 7800) Ikari Warriors (game also released for 7800) Klax (prototype game for 7800) Motordeo (game was released for 2600 in 1990) Off the Wall (2600 only game released in 1989) Rador Lock (2600 only game released in 1989) Save Marry (2600 prototype game in 1990) Sentinel (game was also released 7800 overseas) Secret Quest (2600 only game) Shooting Arcade (2600 prototype game in 1989) Sprint Master (2600 only game) Super Baseball (2600 only game) Super Football (2600 only game) Xenophobe (also released for Atari 7800) Some of the 2600 games would have been great help for the 7800 game library for Sports and Racing games in Double Dunk, Motordeo, Super Sprint, and Super Football. Rador Lock would have fixed a big void the 7800 had in After Burner Style games. Secret Quest would helped the 7800 big time for the adventure game genre. Save Marry, and Shooting arcade would have been good for more light gun games for the system. Off the Wall would have been a good addition for breakout style games for the 7800.
  5. I can't completely blame Jack Tramiel here for the XEGS. The reason the XEGS to my understanding was Atari had 8 bit computer inventory left and they were repacked. Some of the games the XEGS got also were games already released for the Atari 8 bit computer line. The main problem with the XEGS was it was a computer that thought it was a game console. Where the blame of the XEGS for the 7800 should be in in the commercial below because XEGS was really not a true game console. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic0nvtNfDRM&feature=related
  6. Robrotron and ballblazer are not 2600 games and are good reasons to get a 7800 if you don't a Atari 5200. Food is one the big titles get for the Atari 7800 and is not a 2600 game. The Atari 2600 does not a version of homebrew games of Asteroids Deluxe, Space Duel, Super Pac-man, Failsafe, and Pac-man Collection. While the Atari 2600 has Ikari Warriors, commando, Double Dragon, Rampage, Xenophobe, the 7800 versions are closer to the arcade than 2600 is despite how block Double Dragon looks. The 7800 also has nes style games in Fatal Run, Midnight Mutants, and other games DracIsBack mentioned. The 7800 is getting an expansion module and that is a good reason to get a 7800. The 7800 expansion module will allow more 2600 games be compatible. The expansion module is able to do things that 2600 is not capable of. The expansion module has sound that is way better than the 2600 and 7800 without the expansion module. The module also would allow you to save you high score and has even more memory than the 7800 does. From a game stand point, it will bring games than more advanced than the 2600 could do well. There are games being worked on the 7800 expansion module currently.
  7. To me, it doesn't matter the era it is from. I just like playing games that are fun despite having more post-crash games. My pre-crash collection is 2600 and 7800 games only. I have a bunch systems that are post-crash. The catch with me is I own a lot of arcade Compilations that included pre-crash arcade game. Pre-crash is where I got my start in types of games I love to play like space shooters and have simple games such adventure, and Jr. Pac-man as an example. At the same time I love post crash stuff like rpgs and scrolling games like Megaman.

    Imagic

Imagic had games planned for the Atari 5200. There is 5 rumor milled imagic games for the Atari 5200. They are Fatham,Laser Gates, Moonsweeper, Quickstep & Wing War. Imagic had an ad in September 83 issue of Electronic games for Moonsweeper and the ad mentioned about 5200 version of Moonsweeper. This information is from Digital Press.
  9. This is a type of a game the 7800 needed and I have been a fan of Bomberman style games for years. They are excellent two player games. I have no problems if the Fruitarian stays as a two player game. Games similar to any Bomberman game are usually better as a two or more player game anyway.
  10. I played Lufia: Curse of the Sinstrals on the DS for New Years Eve.
  11. Hi Carmel,

    Have a great New Year.

  12. My collecting goals are continue to buy imports for Saturn and Dreamcast. My other goals are to get more Atari 2600/7800 games before making out my Christmas list to my younger brother and try to buy Atari 7800XM.
  13. I own an Atari 7800 since I got it as a Christmas gift in 1989. In terms of starting starting out, I would say Dig Dug, Centipede, Joust Mario Bros., Ballblaser, Asteroids, Food Fight, Ms. Pac-man, Tower Toppler, one-one Basketball and Xevious from a starters stand point. I do recommend getting Commando, Rampage, Midnight Mutants, and Rampage. Those 4 games are not as cheap as the ones I recommend starting out.
  14. Selling Self Published games isn't illegal. Microsoft had no issue of Halo 2600 being sold because Microsoft gave okay to Ed Fries for creating the game and have Atariage sell it from the Atari 2600 from a legal standpoint. Adventure 2 for Atari 5200 wasn't released illegal because the author was given the legal okay to do the game and release it. There are right 2 non trademark games for the Atari 7800 that being sold by Atariage. There is no legal issues as a result. Business law was one of the classes I took for getting my accounting degree back in 2000 and I passed the class. That means I have an understanding of business law and that includes contracts, copyrights and trademarks.
  15. http://home.comcast.net/~scottith/videosoft/videosoft.html I got this site link and info from Digital Press. Those games are able to be released thanks to an agreement with Video Soft founder Jerry Lawson. Each Title will only be limited to 100 copies. Each Title also comes with a box and manual. The Games are 3D Ghost Attack, 3D Genesis, 3D Havoc, Atom Smash, Depth Charge, and S.A.C. Alert.
  16. I agree that Double Dragon would be a great pick for being hacked into an XM game music wise after hearing the remix Double Dragon music for the Spectrum. The thing is Double Dragon should be completely done by scratch for the Atari 7800 XM. I think the 128k ram the Atari 7800 XM has could make the characters of the game less blocky than the version of Double Dragon Activision released for the 7800. The other issue I have is some of the weapons in the arcade game aren't found in the 7800 version.
  17. Thank goodness that commercial didn't come to North America in 1990. It would have made me shake my head in 1990.
  18. Wikipedia can be a great tool depending on the motive of the person editing the page. Wikipedia can be used for correcting false information that was discovered. I have no problem with people correcting false information if that person has found documents that no one had access to before. I have no problem with Curt and Mary correcting false information as a result.
  19. It is very possible to port a game like Super Burgertime for for the Atari 7800 XM in terms of Ram and Sound. The Nes was able to do arcade ports like Snow Bros., Trog and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The arcade game despite the graphically difference. That means the Atari 7800 XM would be be able to do the same as the Nes was able to do for late 1980's and early 1990's arcade ports except the Atari 7800 XM has better sound the Nes does. The Atari 7800 XM has a huge advantage of the nes in sound since the Atari 7800 XM has ym2151 sound chip that has 8 sound channels. I think you took my statement of Super Burger Time looks like a game for the Atari XM in terms wrong. It was poorly type by me since I meant in terms of Ram Sound. To my understanding the extra ram the Atari xm has will help it terms of scrolling.
  20. I hope no one took Super Burger Time looks like a game for the Atari XM statement in terms of graphics. What I was referring was Super Burgertime looked a game for the Atari 7800 XM in terms in ram and sound.
  21. Super Burger Time looks like a game for the Atari XM. I am not familiar with Super Burger Time at all since I didn't remember playing it in the arcades.
  22. I know what you are saying, but I have no plans of doing any programing and it is something from my past. I tried my hand in programming by taking a class 15 to 16 years ago. If I wanted to do programming for the Atari 7800, I would have tried to learn 6502 assembly back in 2004 or 2005. I wouldn't have any arcade or computer ports because of trademark purposes if I programmed a homebrew Atari 7800 or Atari 7800 xm game. Back when I was in 8th grade, I was told to be a computer programmer by a teacher because of my math abilities were past my grade level back in the 1992-1993. I took a computer program class as a sophomore in high school called computer science. The teacher of that class had the class learn basic and creating programs from scratch on an Apple IIE. I was a C student in Computer Science and it was one of my worse two subjects that school year. I had problems getting my programs to work and I found it very frustrating to put it mildly. I do any not have any regrets for what I experience in that class because that class was to see if I could have been good enough to take programming classes in college. I used high school to take drafting or accounting classes for college purposes besides taking computer classes.
  23. It is not too late to place an order. Curt doesn't accept paypal because of a bad experience. If you have any credit cards, you could use that instead.
  24. Final Fantasy 7 Secret of Mana Nascar games by EA after 2003 Mortal Kombat All first person shooters ever created Earhbound
  25. Will Prosystem 1.6b be available for non XM team members after the 7800 XM gets shipped to everyone that pre-orders it?
