Cool Gauntlet item I found thrifting
8th lutz replied to figgler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That is great find I never seen one. I Remember around 1990 that there were tips of videogames on cards that were found in in boxes of pudding bars. I think that is what it was called with bill cosby in the tv commercial a stick with pudding frozen. I not a bit surprised that there games like that make since I had a donkey kong arcade puzzle as a kid. -
I say the ps2. I don't think its dying yet since ps 3 isn't out. When it is out, I expect ps 2 to have great full year like ps 1 did in 2001 after the ps 2 came out in 2000. After that expect it to get the ps 1 treatment from 2002 to 2004. That is 2 major non sports titles. Ps 1 had arc the lad collection and final fantasy origins. Gba isn't doing too shabby.

Galaga 88 had a home translation. It is for the the tg-16 called Galaga 90.

I think it was q-bert in the arcade. I could be wrong. If it wasn't it had to a game for the intellivision 2.

Well thank you both for answering my question. It's also good to know that Snoopy & The Red Baron shouldn't have any problems on the 7800, as that and Crystal Castles will more than likely be the two 2600 games I will play the most often once I get me a Pro System. Two more questions concerning the 7800 if I may though... 01> How durable are the 7800 Joysticks? Do they last or are they prone to break easily? 02> What is that other odd looking (though more conventional looking) game pad I often see with the 7800 instead of the joysticks? (see pic below). Are these kinds of controllers rare or something because I always only see the bulkier joysticks with system. 1018423 1. The joysticks hurt your ams and hands. I can't remember if I broke any or not. I played the 7800 non-stop from Christams of 1989 to dec. 1991. 2. They are released in europe only. I had a chance to play with them in a event called the midwest classic in 2002 and bought them last year. They are better then the bulkier joysticks. They are better on your hands. They can be used in a 7800 in the united states.

The only games that were released in the 87 that were close to the 48k to 64k range were the sms card games. Sms games were 128k or 256k back then. Phantasy star was a 4 mega catridge. I own sms catridge boxes that said how big the game is. I read that that the game was around 70 dollars in 1988 in the United states. As for as the nes, most games were at least 128k by 1987. I think that some games that stayed japan for a while for the nes could be over 128k I think games like Final fantasy one. By the time the 7800 did 128k games the nes was doing 256k at least. I know that dragon warrior 3 was done in Japan by then. It was even bigger then dw 2 was. Dw 2 was 256k in 1987. As for as other games that were 512k in the late 80's was on the genesis. I don't know about how big the t-16 games were since I never owned one. I don't know a console in 3d place would but there were plans of a rpg in the late 80's. A bigger question is why there was any plans of doing that anyhow. They should've done 256k games a least by the late 80's. I thought they spread them selves too thin when they had the 2600,7800 and xe. Before I did mention about the jaguar toward being cheap with memory. It came at time when the games had less memory then the game megazines claimed. There even was game for the jaguar that had 2 versions. One had more memory then another one. I know that atari had problems at them by the time the jaguar came out. What is the explain of that one since they know they were loosing money prior to then at a good rate.

Proof of what? It was proof that there's lots of ideas in development at the time (including the keyboard, etc.) that proved not to be feaseable or warranted. Same thing happened at Warner Atari. Do you have any idea how much the manufacturing costs of a 512k game cart would have been in 1987 terms? Most games on systems (NES, MS, 7800) in that timeframe were in the 48k-64k range. Even the "high end" 128k games on the 7800 (like Commando) didn't appear until '89. How would a console that's competing a far distant 3rd at best be generating enough money to support manufacturing and distribution of a 512k game in the '80's? Ask your self, how many 512k games were released on any console in the late 80's? The only games that were released in the 87 that were close to the 48k to 64k range were the sms card games. Sms games were 128k or 256k back then. Phantasy star was a 4 mega catridge. I own sms catridge boxes that said how big the game is. This is not true, and an often repeated missconception. Atari Inc. was bought mainly for its manufacturing and distribution capacities. They had every intent to keep the video game division going because they needed capital until the ST finished development and went in to production. Every where I read in the internet has stated the Jack shoved the 7800 off table and "said get this crap out of here! We don't do video games back in 1984." He only released the 7800 because the nes was doing well. Remember Jack was a founder of Commodore. He wanted to get back at commodore. It was well known fact that Jack didn't like videogames to all reports on the internet. By the time the Jaguar came out, one of sons took over the company was run by one of his sons. That son had health issues and the Jaguar suffered as a result.

Game Systems you wanted but didn't get
8th lutz replied to Gabriel's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The sms. I got one years later. I wanted one back in 1991, but at the same time in that year I wanted to a nes. I got the nes for christmas. I remembered seeing sms games cheap in a sear catlog from $14.99 to $29.99 The neo geo. I always wanted one but the price was to expensive. The only way I would buy one is if I win the lottery. Neo geo pocket color- Cool system but ended before I never had a chance buy it until I saw one of 6 games and with a system at eb games in 2004. -
Time Warner, or more accurately, Warner Brothers, owned Atari Inc. before the split. That may be the era 8th lutz is talking about, although if so, he's saying Atari died before the releases of the 7800, the Lynx and the Jaguar. Time Warner either owned or had very close relations with Atari Games for a while in the '90s, before Atari Games was acquired by Midway. When that happened, Atari Games as we knew it pretty much came to an end. 1017663 Yes, that is what was talking about. It warner known as warner brother back in 1984 but it changed later. The 7800, lynx, and jaguar did come out after what I called it's death. I own two out the 3 systems mentioned. Remember that the 7800 could be warner Brothers last system. It was released by the system by the atari with jack and his family, but it was made under warner. I thought atari died then because atari was not the same since 1984. Jack and his family didn't spend a lot of money on atari systems. The only system that atari spent money on was the jaguar on tv and the 2600. I think they screwed by keeping releasing atari 2600 games and making the atari xe. I think with all the games they made hurted them for the 7800. The money they spend on the 2600 rap commercial around 1988 on the 2600 should've been on the 7800. They only boughtatari for computers not video games. It showed during the treatment of their systems and made it worse by not spending money on the systems for research and development.

Did the games have sound when you played them on a gameboy? I have played gameboy games on a super gameboy before and had no problem with sound.

I am too. I understand the members who voted the 2600 in who lived in europe and a few other places. The nes was not popular in Europe. At the time time to my understanding that Nintendo don't do much advertising in europe and didn't have the 3d party monoply overseas. In europe during during the nes era, computers were more pupular then console gaming. I found that part out on the internet a long time ago. Over there if there if this poll had the sega master system included it would've made sense. The master system was popular over there and it sold much better over there then the nes. That sms over there had game support through end of 1995 I think.

That is a great find.

Yea no doubt. It think infogrames hurted atari's name by pulling stuff that the time warner atari would pull like the first enter the matrix game. I think it died when time warner atari sold it.
-
It would be. The problem with nintendo is they wouldn't be doing any flashback stuff and wouldn't allow any roms. That means no hacks. Also if nintendo gets the atari game rights it could be used in their on-line service for their new console. The catch is people would have to pay for an atari game. I know nintendo would make a perfect emulator to down load with a few changes on the controls. Also the catch is nintendo's past relations with 3rd parties. Remember, some atari's most memorable games games are arcade games by different companies or third parties.
-
I should of said console gaming in infogrames with nascar. I think infogrames was looking at the fact the console gaming is bigger then pc gaming in sales for the most part. I do think infogrames didn't do the 7800 justice by having 7800 games on nintendo on a chip and with the 2600 games that were on the first flashback. I think they did have the right idea with flashback 2.

I think the nes has more nostalgia to the public. There were more people playing video games in the nes era. There is womens underwear that has the nes konami code. I found that out on dp. I don't have any and have no plans to. It was on a website. I wouldn't of know otherwise. There also is your know your roots t-shirt with nes. The 2600 only has the flashback and the atari logo. People that were born my brother and I's time period is more likely to get their start on gameing on computers or the nes in the united states. The time period was in being born was in the late 70's to early 80's. Now I granted I got my start trying the 2600 Jr,7800 and the intellivision 2. I had memories with booth and I thought booth were good systems. I don't think many people had a 2600 from the time period I was born because the crash began and there was chance that they might have played a colecovision, intellivision,5200, or on a computer untill the nes came.

I think microsoft is more likely to pick up atari then nintendo. I don't think nintendo would take advantage of the atari name. Nothing against nintendo but their on-line service is for games for their game console systems not for atari when their next console system comes out. Infogrames thought atari would help out their sales. The truth is I think Infogrames decline started when nascar decided that ea would be the only publisher for nascar games. At that time, infogrames had the better nascar game and people were starting to realize it. They had the player start like other race car drivers start from dirt to the nascars top series. I think if infogrames did more advertising, they would have had better sales. At the point of the name change, infogrames was starting to come on their own as developer and publisher. Ea had gotten worse every nascar game since then. The first game had problems with announcers and spotters. The spotters got the driven wrong when telling you where they are on the track along with the number, plus calling women a "he". The anouncers claim you had bad race when you won the race. It went done hill to the point that if you pick a certain sponser, your game with freeze, crash and erase the game saved in your memory card.

I played the flash game. I have to say that would make a great addition to the 7800. Hopefully this be the start of more 7800 hack games.

I remember hearing about the amount copies world wide was needed by gamespot. I think gameinformer gave it 8.5 so it wouldn't cause the video game industry to have a sign that another crash could be happening because of it. In the year Enter the Matrix came out, tomb Raider: angels of darkness by eidos was crappy game. That game pulled a e.t. That game was rushed because of its movie release and eidos depended on it in order to make a profit for the quater. The game was panned because it had glitches and made enter the matrix look good. Enter the matrix was released about two or three years ago, but it was the begining of their problems. How could a company sale about 5 million copies and break even instead of making a huge profit.
-
I must of accidently pressed the paste command instead of pressing the copy command.

So... does that mean there's a big landfill of them somewhere in New Mexico? 1015991 I don't think that there is. I know they sold 5 million world wide, but the game itself stinks according to my brother and a good amount of people thought the same. I think the pac-man/ e.t effect happened to them. It didn't help that flackback one had noac. Playing 2600 games and 7800 games on a nintendo on a chip didn't help the quality of the the games.
