  1. The setting was at Ultimate level hence the name of the contest. Commodore Magazine, one of the sponsors of the contest, started advertising for it in late 1988. It was about that time they started accepting entries. I entered twice with my second entry being my best score. You had to get into the top 15 by late March 1989 to qualify for the higher levels of the contest. Then MicroProse interviewed you to see if you were capable of going into the top 10 for the final stage of the contest (the fact I was living in Germany at the time made things interesting). I made it into the top 10 and was given a bunch of small disc packages (one contained the battle discs) and specific instructions to be activated the day of the contest (April 30, 1989). After I completed my runthrough I had to send the remaining disc packages that were unopened (to prove that I did not try to tamper with them) along with a videocassette of my work back to MicroProse. Later, I was informed that I placed eighth out of the final ten. While that may not sound very good you have to understand that many hundreds of people (some with multiple entries) tried to get here. I am still proud of this particular accomplishment even though the contest was done over 18 years ago. I also think that finishing eighth runs in my family. My third cousin, "American Idol" contestant Haley Scarnato, also finished eighth in her contest earlier in the year. Anyway, here are the photos that were requested: This is the autographed poster I received from MicroProse. It is in very good condition because it has been stored in a tube ever since I got it. I had to carefully roll it out onto the carpet and put some heavy objects at the corners to keep it open. Tom Clancy's autograph is at the lower left corner of the poster. This is the page within the autographed manual that has Tom Clancy's signature. I used the top of my PlayStation 2 to put objects on to be photographed. These are the Battle Discs themselves. I have not played with them since the contest. One thing to know, during the latter half of 1988 I was spending just about every waking moment not devoted to work or school on this game trying to qualify and win. By the time I finished with the contest I was badly burned out on "Red Storm Rising". The last time I played the game was with the Amiga version about 15 years ago. These are the titles I won from the contest. I was also disappointed. Why? Because I was expecting every single title they ever put out up to that point. But they just gave me copies of the seven games seen in the picture. And I already owned copies of these seven games so I really got nothing new. Oddly enough they gave me another copy of "Red Storm Rising" (maybe because they though I may have worn out my original copy?). I also had a neighbor who was a fan of these games so I gave him the duplicates. I also got a bunch of contest documentation to go along with the event. Unfortunately I do not have anything right now that would allow me to put them into a .pdf file for archiving (and showing off). Thanks for the pics. I would love to get my hands on images for the Battle Disks and take them for a spin on VICE to see if I was even worthy for the contest.
  2. Dreamcast is getting alot of attention. Only because I just got it. I play the 5200 quite abit and the INTV.
  3. I was a submariner at the time Red Storm Rising came out . I would have loved to know there was a contest. Just a question what setting did you play at? I found using a Sturgeon class in 1992 got me the CMH and the most points.
  4. I think Half Life plays and looks better on the Dreamcast than te PC.
  5. Im just gonna get a new board from Best Electronics.
  6. I'm having alot of fun with this system. Got a bunch of emulators and also have a BLEEM version of Time Crisis that plays ok.
  7. Where can i get one of there chips?
  8. The first game I picked up for it was Crazy Taxi cause I have always heard good thing about it. I also bought Tony Hawk2 but I cant get it to load. I exchanged it for a different one but it wont load either
  9. CD-RW's don't work. You have to take apart the DC and mess with the laser power level calibration to make it read CD-RW's, which may still not work depending on media used and will shorten the laser life. Thats what I thought. I'm not a stranger to cd images. I get some CD-R's. Should I only use a CD burner and not an DVD burner?
  10. 2 dollar ticket. Won 100 bucks. Payed 40 bucks for it I know its alot but i wanted it and had the xtra cash. No luck on the burning yet. I have only tried it with CD-RW's. I dont have any CD-R's. I cant even get the Utopia boot loader to work. Any help would be appreciated.
  11. is this a socketed chip and if so could I pull it out of my 7800 beef drop and try it?
  12. I wonder how hard it would be to get said chip and how much it costs.
  13. Why is that lucky. Cause i got the money for it from a scratch off lottery ticket. Now if it will play burned games I'll be real happy.
  14. Does the problem happen on both joystick ports or just one? Mitch both

    controllers

I just bought a rebuilt gold controller and i cannot get the top fire buttons to work. I had the same problems with my old controllers. Could this be a problem with the board? And can it be fixed with out buying a replacement board. It is a 2 port system.

  19. But if you mean an expert at playing the game, then no. Just because you wrote the program for a game does not mean you will be any good at playing it. Michael Yes thats what I meant.
  20. Rephrased my question to clarify what I was asking.
  21. If you program a game does that make you an expert at that game? Or do you still have trouble with it. I have always wondered that.
  22. Got mine today 24300 first try on normal. This game rocks thank Ken and Al. With all the hombrews I've been buying lately my wife keeps asking "Are you done now". lol Not even close.
