  1. No love for Rad Racer? What I remember the most about Enduro is how much imagination went into it while playing. I was playing it on a black and white TV at the time while literally filling in the colors in my mind, and by extension the scenery and everything else. In many ways it was and still is more real to me than the stuff released today with insane graphics that I would not have thought would be possible back then.
  2. You're forgetting the real gem in this story: Dahmer had already drilled a hole in his skull at that point.
  3. Too bad Jack Thompson was busy worrying about 2 Live Crew then, he could've defended Dahmer and argued that the whole thing was caused by the Texas Chainsaw Masacare 2600 game.
  4. Yeah, plus when friends come over to play you can tell them midway through the game that you wonder which controller Dahmer used and if he had just eaten some head cheese.
  5. Dunno, you think a person willing to travel a great distance to see an Atari kiosk would be the kind of guy to steal?
  6. LOL. Interesting info. I wonder if he actually was a frequent visitor/player there or if the film creators just said, "Hey, let's include this novelty place in Miwaukee."
  7. In the movie the Dahmster is in a grocery store playing Pitfall on a woodgrain 2600, presumably during the late 80s or early 90s. Odd . . .
  8. Yes, I bought that too a few months ago :-) I didn't know the same people were involved though.
  9. I downloaded the Activision one last night. You guys did a good job on it, I think better than the Atari one even.
  10. Alright, I deleted the app and then reinstalled it. After that, I fired up the VPN and things were back to normal. It's incredibly annoying that there are ads even though I paid for the app . . .
  11. I tried my 3G and DSL connections. Each of them are a different ISP. I've even tried downloading through a VPN to no avail.
  12. Not sure if emulation is the best place for this post, but I'll ask anyway. I've had the Greatest Hits app since it was released, and bought the entire library at the same time. At some point, the games refused to download with an 'incorrect data size' error and advises to try another connection; when I do it makes no difference. I sent a support ticket to Atari but, as I somewhat expected, no answer. I've found others have this problem too, but no one has a solution. Any ideas? It's behaving this way on both my iPad and iPhone.
  13. Wow, I haven't posted here in ages but was searching for something and saw this post along the way. Epic.
  14. Egypt is PAL I believe. I remember when I was in Saudi Arabia 10 years ago people commonly used NTSC to PAL converters on their Playstations though, I assumed because all the pirated games were from Asia not Europe.
  15. Back in the US I have a nice Jaguar and Lynx collection. That stuff was too hard to bring with me (along with thousands of records). Don't worry they are safe. I wouldn't mind starting a new collection here. Anything classic interests me, but cursory browsing in markets doesn't turn up much. Any places to search for old systems and games? Also desperately seeking vinyl . . .
  16. Why does Frogger die if he falls into the water when he's an amphibian?
  17. Preferably new, but obviously used might be my only option. I need 100.
  18. Hi guys, Long time since I've posted here. I recently bought a classic E-Mu SP-12 sampler and, as luck would have it, it uses a 1541 (any of the 3 main varieties) for its storage. I got 100 new floppies from Floppydisk.com, some labels from another spot, but I cannot for the life of me find sleeves. Can someone help? I've already created a couple things and feel insecure leaving them just sitting in the box with no cover -- though my old school experience tells me they'll probably be alright. I'd prefer new, but that's a long shot it seems.
  19. BTW, I didn't disassemble this paddle, but where is the brain of it located, in the paddle or in the battery pack?
  20. I just bought this today from Wal-Mart while picking up a steering wheel for my Gamecube. I usually sport a Wi-Fi finder on my keychain but wanted another gadget to replace it, since every single one of those proved to be pretty useless. Out of the box I assumed it was DOA until I read the message here about squeezing the power switch very hard; I was about to return it the next day. Oddly, after smashing the power button a few times it seems to function normally now (i.e., the switch actually works as you'd expect it). Though, the first few times I played it no sound came out of my television's speakers; now sound does come out. I didn't really buy this to play seriously, more as a novelty -- so assuming it doesn't get smashed in my pocket within a month and quit working, I guess it serves its purpose. I'll keep the battery pack in my laptop bag, which is generally with me 50% of the time.
  21. I've never been particularly bothered by using emulators in place of the 'real thing,' except for a few exceptions -- the Lynx (graphics just look better and less pixelated on the real screen), the Jaguar (no emulator is reliable or truly functional), and until recently the c64 (childhood attachment and a fondness for touching the real hardware). When it comes to classic computers I'm a fan in general of owning the actual machines, though I can't necessarily explain to you why. On the other hand though, I live in a small apartment and don't have room for a c64 setup, Amiga, Jaguar, Classic Mac, and who knows what else might arrive. So perhaps it's a moral dilemma of sorts? To the point. Yesterday I hooked up my c64, 1541, and 2600 joystick, ready to play Skate or Die, California Games, and perhaps a few other titles. Neither of the titles loaded, though they did last time I had the thing hooked up. Also, it seems the power adapter is coming lose, and if the machine is moved the wrong way, you lose power. Not to mention it's an early breadbox with no Chroma-Luma output, so it looks kind of bad. So I put it away and start toying with Power64 on my Mac. Hmm. No insanely long load times, the keyboard is remapped to traditional keys (quote and asterisk keys aren't in goofy places, among other things), and the games seem to be running. No need to find 5.25 disks and transfer disk images over to the 1541 on antiquated PCs either (I don't actually own any PCs anymore, only Macs, so it's difficult to do that anymore even). So I think emulation has finally won me over on the c64, and I might just plop down $25 for Power64 instead of another Commodore and 1541. The emulator won't need repaired in the future either, and I won't trip over it at night walking across the room. Any thoughts? Maybe I should look into the c64 flash storage options and give the real hardware another chance.
  22. Yeah, they weren't mentioned -- I got it confused with another ad. However, how would you feel as a kid buying Mario Bros, seeing your friend playing SMB on his NES? I'd be disappointed. Karateka was already dated in '88; it was on the Apple ][ in what, '84? Impossible Mission was on 8-bit computers long before as well. As for NES Baseball, Hat Trick, and DK Jr., nobody I knew with an NES had those in their library, and DK Jr and Baseball were released around '85 with the NES launch. Again, dated titles no one cared about. Now if this commercial were made in '85 or '86, maybe you have a point. Put it up against what the NES and even the SMS had to offer in '88 and it's just a joke (SMB 2 being out, or on the horizon, among tons of other stuff like Zelda).
  23. You have to remember the time and context in which this commercial aired to realize how bad it is. Commercials like this usually came on during the afternoon in between children's cartoons, targeting an audience who just missed the Pac Man, Space Invaders, Joust era and were seeing stuff like Super Mario Bros and Castlevania. This was 87 or 88, and Joust and Robotron just look lame in comparison to someone who has no emotional attachment to the early 80s era of gaming -- yet that's what this commercial was trying to capitalize on. I owned a 7800 as a kid and enjoyed it, but I don't think any commercial can paint too rosy of a picture for it. It was what it was. It had a lot of decent arcade translations, it had the 2600 library, but it didn't have what the NES (and even SMS) had. Plus, there were a handful of games I didn't even know existed until discovering sites like this, since retailers didn't seem to stock much for it.
  24. I have the Jakks paddle game (Super Breakout, Warlords, Circus Atari, some other stuff) and I haven't had any trouble with it. I can't say that it feels any cheaper than the original Atari paddles did (I haven't owned a pair in 10+ years so maybe I've forgotten something). I believe I paid $10 for it, so even if it broke after a couple years it's not a huge loss. I'd replace it with a Stella Adapter and a couple real paddles for use on my Mac and widescreen display if it ever did.
